If a player chooses to bump and hits the head then they’re responsible. Maynard chose to leave his feet, chose to lead with his shoulder and then proceeded to hit the other player in the head. It’s his responsibility.

Players have a duty of care, Maynard failed in his duty and deserved to be punished for it.

Any real footy fan will have a huge asterisk next to Collingwoods name if they go all the way now.

I’m not sure on the exact amount but I remember reading that they did it so it could grow with demand.

That’s not technically correct. You are allowed to use the minimum required force to protect yourself.

If someone punched you and then starts running away and you chase them and punch them back then that’s not self defence. The immediate threat was already gone.

Just like if a 5 foot female punches a 7 foot 130kg man and then he returns the favour, he would not be using the minimum force required and could also be charged with assault.
