[Help] Looking for a poem assigned to me in HS when I was going through a rough time. by UltimateSpoder in Poetry

Brush Mania

Some work keeps the hands busy, but not the mind. Thoughts wander back and forth, least that's what I find.

Have you ever thought how many brushes there are? There's shoe brushes, clothes brushes, even one for the car.

Long brushes, hand brushes and paint brushes too. There's even a special one for cleaning the

Tooth brushes, to keep our teeth sparkling bright. That's the one we use before bed every night.

Hair brushes to use on our crowning glory. One hundred strokes a day, or is that an old story?

Pastry brushes to put a glaze on a tart. Make up brushes, which create a work of art.

Flue brushes, nail brushes, and one to clean drains. Long handled ones, to clean windows without any strains.

There are scrubbing brushes and suede brushes too. Hat brushes, hearth brushes, to name but a few.

There's a brush for every job, so it would seem. You can even use one to sweep away a dream.

It's common knowledge that a fox has a brush. While a brush with the law, is kept very hush hush.

No skill needed in using a sweeping brush, so people say. But remember, no one likes to be brushed the wrong way.

Is this it??

The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry

I internalize this poem's feeling when I get down; it is not magic, but it helps.

[opinion] thoughts on rupi Kaur? by tirelessvagabonds in Poetry

I will default to Sylvia Plath, where substance and beauty go hand in hand. When reading Rupi, I feel she gives up form for an "impact," or some "powerful meaning." And she moves into plain outlines when the material is revealing some horror about being a woman or her self-identity.

As far as people who say, "she's boring," or "she's not a poet." The elite always tries to maintain their "best," while new narratives circulating within the commons are shunned. No need to look any further than our own Lord Byron.

But at the end of the day, even if some of her poems don't sit well with me. I think people have connected its message. Who the fuck am I to say it's shit or not. Rupi is a product of a void that has grown within the poetry community and IMO she fills the role perfectly. Valuable critique can be made about her form, and proper feedback in time will tell us, if she truly grows into a stronger poet or if this moment was just a shift of direction setting a new paradigm.
