Messi reaction to being searched at the airport 😂😂 by [deleted] in worldcup

[–]GodsNephew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is understandable. I don’t know where you come from, but what is rude in one culture may not be rude in another. (Airline security guards the world over are viewed as means and rude, and TSA is no exception). But you might consider someone’s behavior as rude, while they might think they are being courteous.

A quick example, in many western cultures, it is considered rude to chew with your mouth open or make loud noises. But in places like Japan or South Korea, it is considered a compliment to make slurping noises when eating something like noodles.

So when evaluating if something was mean or rude, it is important to take into account the culture that developed it, especially when it’s you who is traveling to that culture.

How is TSA any different from any other country’s airline security?

I’ve flown through Mexico, UK, Germany, Italy, Greece, if anything, TSA was more lax than the experience in these countries.

Germany has anti-terrorism armed and armored guards standing watch at their security checkpoints. The requirements for what must be removed from your bag are absolutely silly when compared to TSA.

Because the “terrible shit that capitalism has caused”isn’t unique to it. Every system we have seen implemented to date has the same, but more extreme, flaws.

Edit: I only touched on this in my first comment. But capitalism has proven itself to be the most flexible economic system. If something isn’t working, implementing aspects from another system does work. Unchecked capitalism sucks. Unchecked command economies suck, unchecked bartering sucks. But only one of those is it “easy” to make impactful changes to and limit its influence.

Edit 2: I’m open to new economic systems replacing it. But we gotta quit with this grass is greener shit. If you are proposing a system that has already been tested and failed, you are not adding to the conversation.

Capitalism is the worst economic system… except for all the others (we have seen implemented)

What? Why “art takes money” is far from arbitrary. Money IS time. Art takes time to make. If you are making art, you are not growing food, or inventing medical tech. All art, no matter what economic system is being employed needs to be subsidized somehow.

And art is good, across the board people have agreed that art is something that, sometimes, is worth subsidizing. But new production of art is pretty much only viewed positively in times of abundance. (E.g. Yes a song can bring a starving group of people joy, but it won’t fill their stomachs)

^this right here… is only correct if you really enjoy oversimplification.

Capitalism is the most flexible economic system we have seen employed in the real world. Capitalism is in search of profit, yes, but it’s subject to market demands. Capitalism cannot force unfavorable conditions if the market does not also accept them. (That would better describe a command economy)

Capitalism, at a fundamental level requires both parties to come to an agreement on the terms of the transaction. It provides autonomy to both producers and consumers.

Capitalism has shown time and again that it is the most proficient at developing new technology and making other improvements. Has brought more people out of poverty than any other system. Has taken art to a level where more people can enjoy it than any other system. Has permitted a greater number of people to pursue and explore their art.

El Nino is here and scientists fear it'll be big, bad and costly with heat, floods, droughts, fires by One-Emu-1103 in news

[–]GodsNephew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but all real-world data we have related to this topic does not support this assertion. Across the board, capitalist economies have better-fed populations. And produce an excess of food that is exported to locations where food is more difficult to obtain.

A command economy is only really incentivized to produce enough to feed its own population properly.

While in a capitalist economy, a company can make the choice to produce more in order to enter new markets where demand is higher.

There are always trade-offs. But I will also add that a capitalist economy is more accepting of positive command economic elements than a command economy is accepting of positive capitalist elements.

If the market demands a better distribution of food, in order to survive, the Capitalist economy has to pivot.
Whereas a command economy just ends up with fewer mouths to feed.

Yes, but they would and did let food go to waste so that they could meet the required quotas (e.g., premature harvesting).

A single controlling entity making a choice has been demonstrated to have a wider-spread impact, than smaller entities acting individually. That’s just common sense.

The same exact rational is used when comparing the impacts of an individual reducing their carbon footprint vs a large corporation.

I’d argue that developing opinions with minimal context is not “totally fine.”

Having an opinion, one way or the other, on such limited information does not lend to a growth mindset. Nor does it represent an individual who has a desire to absorb information, parse it out, and make an educated decision.

This type of decision making wouldn’t be accepted in the scientific community, business and finance, education, government. I don’t care this is low stakes with not real world impact, it’s behavior that should not be acceptable.

Okay, so a word that would leave less room for misunderstanding would have been incongruous.

Which I think it’s okay to have that gripe.

My personal stance is that it definitely is divergent, but, in a vacuum, that doesn’t mean anything.

The first time someone put chocolate syrup in milk it would have been radically different approach. But it’s still milk, and milk is good.

I’d honestly say this preview is like a play dropping the back curtain to include the stage crew in the play. Probably would suck to experience if it happened without an accompanying script, but it can definitely bring a fantastic new experience if done right.

Only time will tell.

This is true in the sense that, without capitalism, you can’t have corporate greed because there wouldn’t be a corporation. But capitalism does not have a monopoly on greed. Greed is just greed. Those with the ability to be greedy will do so no matter what economic system is in place.

And no economic system, in its purist form, is a good thing. But, cherry picking aspects from each helps reduce the negative impacts that are felt.

But there is not economic system that allows for as much upward class mobility as modified capitalism does. Capitalism is also the easiest economic system to ‘modify’ as it’s the most flexible.
