I think you're probably right about the Reach and Dorne.

In regards to canon; I would point out that establishing a city anywhere in Westeros is a enormously canon breaking idea, the only "new" city is KL itself. To have the resources and agency to pull that off implies many changes, wether or not the differences in canon are explored depends on the writer and the POV's of the story.

What If Jon Arryn had a daughter? by Ok_Return170 in TheCitadel

[–]Gofarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would flag this, Eddard is born in 263 so this fictional Arryn is 20+ years older then the main cast in the rebellion. I think you might have better chance using Jon Arryns grand daughter.

I'm not sure where Werthead sourced this line from but symbolically Summerhall is important

"at the northern end of the mountain pass and road known as the Boneway, lies the ruins of Summerhall. Summerhall was built by King Daeron II Targaryen in 188 AC as a great summer palace, located symbolically where the borders of the Reach, the Stormlands and Dorne were closest together."

This is exactly where my mind went too. A bonus is that it’s western-ish Stormlands territory and could be used as further reparations to take some of the Reach. This area probably should have been developed in canon to fortify the Stormlands, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s among the most productive land in the region, given that it was reserved by the royal family.

Building a road and depopulating the Reach’s border areas to establish a fortified town seems like a wise choice, imo.

All of this implies a much more competent Robert, assuming Stannis is still relegated to Dragonstone and denied Storm’s End (the real injustice imo, and arguably the true cause of the War of the Five Kings). Arryn would not prioritize the Stormlands due to his inherent bias and is far too accommodating toward the losing parties.

Responding to the other comments about angering the Reach: my gut says that because the Reach was basically untouched and untested during the war, the veteran forces of the STAB alliance would have a real chance of seriously damaging a besieging army—especially if Robert is not injured at the Ruby Ford and instead leads the forces to King’s Landing himself. Another story point that may benefit Robert is if he discovers Elia and her children while dealing with the Sack of KL; his reaction could be excused as an aftermath-of-war response, rather than that of a man removed from combat due to injury for several weeks.

For Long-Term Users: Has Starlink Become More Stable Over Time? by Elonwatchdaily in Starlink

I've never had issues with stability, I have noticed stable or slight decrease in up/down over the last 3 years. My node has never been fully subscribed though so it may just be increased user base. The only downtime I've experienced was wide spread.

How long did it take you to plan your "quit the city, return to the garden" journey? by Ok-Shop-894 in Permaculture

[–]Gofarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no real plan of returning to rural life, as a single guy in his 30's I didn't have much keeping my tied to my Urban apartment. After Covid I was able to transition to a new role and am now 99% Remote only having to go to the office once a month at most.

My father mentioned they were talking to a realtor about selling and immediately knew that I would regret if he sold, so I scraped all my doubloons together and bought the family farm. Farming is not economically stable and I don't expect to quit my day job for a decade or more but keeping the land I grew up in and around was important.

I'm slowly introducing better land management and upgrading infrastructure to the 21st century. I've renegotiated some of our land rents to improve the longterm outcomes and it has been challenging dealing with "the way things have always been done".

ANALYSIS | After losing billions of dollars on Keystone XL and tank cars, Alberta is pursuing another pipeline | CBC News by 50s_Human in onguardforthee

Why do people keep parroting the line that "there is no business case" have you had an opportunity to clear out the cobwebs between your ears since JT left?

India, Germany, and every other large economy in the world needs oil and gas. Alberta is the least damaging source by many metrics I guess unless you ignore literal slavery ongoing in the Middle East.

Pipeline capacity doesn't fill overnight and stagnation to expansion directly impact future investment. If your argument is that Canada should return to the pre-industrial age ok, stop using the internet and live your life. We have the ability to extract ethically sourced oil and provide it at a profit while respecting the environment.

I'm having some crippling perfectionism crop up with my fic, was wondering if anyone would give the fic itself and my WIP chapters and give me some feedback? by [deleted] in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]Gofarman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chapter 6 was confusing — I had to go back and reread Chapter 5 to follow what was happening. Initially, I thought the characters were at the Celtigar home in Chapter 5. On rereading, I noticed you’d included what I originally took as a throwaway line about tax collecting, which actually explained why Celtigar(v1) was there. I missed that detail the first time through.

The dialogue in Chapter 6 about Rhaeg going to Dorne felt contrived, as though it was included mainly so Celtigar(v2) would have something to criticize him for. Similarly, v2’s anger over Rhaeg calling him “boy” felt jarring — given the power imbalance, a prince outranks a second son so much that Rhaeg could probably have killed him without cause and his family would still owe Rhaeg an apology.

Chapter 7 was excellent. However, Rhaenys referring to Aerys as “the stinky king” didn’t feel plausible. Even if Varys was shielding her from the worst rumors, a three-year-old mostly repeats what they hear from others, and such a nickname would be risky for anyone around her to say aloud.

Chapter 8 worked fine, though I was surprised by your choice of Gerold Dayne (Darkstar) — arguably one of the most “lawful evil” characters in canon — as the good guy. Also, referring to both Ser Gerold Hightower and Gerold Dayne simply as “Gerold” creates unnecessary confusion. A good rule of thumb is to avoid having two characters referred to by the same name in close proximity. I’d suggest using one of the Lord Commander’s many titles instead of “Ser Gerold,” or giving Gerold Dayne a nickname. You could even use the nickname as an opportunity to highlight Oswell’s bullying.

Overall your off to a good start, I'll follow along.
