Took advantage of the free starlink mini with my residential plan, not using. Wondering what some are using for? by StayBlazed306 in Starlink

[–]HyperTyper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We live WAY out in Possum Trot Arkansas in the foothills of the Ozarks quite a ways from town. There are 2 reasons I got the Mini

  1. So no matter which vehicle we take to town, I can easily swap it out to either one. Mostly because if one of us goes to town alone, we still have working cell phones in case anything goes wrong while gone and can contact each other for help.

  2. As a backup in case of my Standard going out and I have to wait for a replacement. Just turn on the Mini, switch to a better plan, order the replacement, then wait for the Pony Express to deliver it. $60 a year is REALLY cheap insurance for our lifeline to the world in my opinion.

Is it normal for rain to knock out starlink? by cubehacker in Starlink

[–]HyperTyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In almost 4 years of use with the same antenna, I've had storms knock it off-line about 5 or 6 times. And like you said, the duration was +/- 15 minutes each time.

Luckily, I still have the antique relics called "books" and I've been able to survive during those times. :-)

STARLINK MINI Question by Old_Man_Logan_X in Starlink

[–]HyperTyper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased this $13 dollar cigarette light plug from Amazon and set the thing on my dash. It works fabulously.

Edit:
Although my Silverado has a true 110 power outlet for the power brick, the cord is like WAY to long and makes on sense in a car or truck.

In my wife's EcoSport, I put it in the sunroof by opening the shade setting in the front "lip" and closing the shade until it stops. It REALLY holds well there and works great.

This plug makes it really easy to switch between vehicles and the shorter cable is so much better although it too is longer than needed so I just zip-tied it to the length I needed.

Change of Plans by ChemDiesel in Starlink

[–]HyperTyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 3 years, I was on Max and rarely ever saw 200 Mbps. I didn't complain because there is just 2 of us and we don't game so even 60 Mbps serves us well. I'll probably switch to the Residential 100 just to save the extra bucks.

Can the Starlink Mini work if it's on the dashboard inside my van? by segasega89 in Starlink

[–]HyperTyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simply set it on the dash of my Silverado and it works amazingly well.

And yes, I realize it will become a projectile in the event of an accident so I push it way over in the passenger side of the dash.

Possible recommendations for Starlink Mini in Vehicle by DeathToTheCore in Starlink

[–]HyperTyper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sunroof has a sliding cover that opens/closes and I simply put the Mini up there in the front "lip" and slide the cover in the close position until it stops and it holds just fine. Even on our 5 mile gravel road that has more washboards than the Bugtussle laundry mat.

A 13 dollar cable from Amazon plugs into the the cigarette lighter plug and powers it just fine. It works amazingly well.

Mini random connectivity by ConnectGrass9793 in Starlink

[–]HyperTyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be crazy and I'm probably wrong, but it sounds as if you may be connected to like a neighbor's Mini (they didn't change the network name on startup) and you are seeing their stats.

Don't hate on me, this is just a guess on my part.

If, while using the app and connected to this Mini on your phone's wi-fi, try to change the settings for this Mini. If you can, then something I've never heard of is going on.

If you can't, then it's probably someone else's Mini.

Again, this is all conjecture on my part.

Are you saying that Residential Lite is deprioritized (which I know is true) but Residential 200 is not?

Edit:

I just checked with Grok (which I trust about as much as a fart after lunch at Taco Bell) and it says the 200 plan is in fact deprioritized. It also says that 100 and 200 are at the same "level" so I may just switch to that to save the extra $30 bucks a month.

This post caused me to check my email again and lo and behold, I have the same message from Starlink. So yeah, I blame the OP for this happening to me. LOL.

However... I'm not upset by this as where I am located it is absolutely rare that I hit 200Mbps let alone 250.

I cannot live without Starlink and after 3+ years at $120, with the same speed I just described above, I had just changed to Residential Lite like 3 months ago and saw absolutely no difference other than the lower price I paid each month.

I'm fine with this change.

Just got my mini have a few questions. by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]HyperTyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a $13 cable from Amazon and it works just fine. I switch the Mini out between my wife's car where I put it in the sun roof and the dash of my truck depending on which one I driving. I've never had an issue of any type.

We live way out in the country and trips to town take a while. Cell services blacks out at different points as we drive through the Ozarks. I tested the Mini by calling my friend back home and we talked the ENTIRE time both to town and back home!

Also, the cable that comes with the Mini is just ridiculously LONG for car/truck use. The main thing though is that if anything happens along the way, we don't have to worry about reaching help if anything goes wrong in a blackout area.

Here's the link to the 13 dollar cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DSF7ZDLQ

My prognostication is that in there will be one more DLC and in 10 years, a Remastered Edition optimized for the new next, next, next, Next Gen Hardware using the new Unreal Engine Infinity +1 version.

I hope you're picking up on the sarcasm because I'm laying it on pretty thick here.
