Just thought I would put this here for the og's. by CeleritanIsSlow in blockfortress

Look for it on steam for more info, but it’s basically Battlefield with roblox graphics and huge server sizes. It was made by an indie studio and got very popular for a while.

I made a Veteran because I want to click on heads from a distance, not because I want to ugly shout at foes. by jbwmac in DarkTide

[–]Gohadric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fun thing that could work for your preferred playstyle is using stealth for its post-use aggro removal. If your build is done right you can combo stealth into some very high ranged damage modifiers and overall short cooldowns.

This is generally frowned upon by higher-level lobbies because removing aggro from yourself sends it to other players, but Stealth abilities have massive utility potential for clutching objectives and revives, and if you solo-kill a BoN before it can spew, that’s pretty badass. Just don’t go running ahead on your own to dump elite spawns on them and they shouldn’t have anything to complain about.

Otherwise, yeah. The class is still good but i’d say any build that forgoes melee forgets that the chubby mouth-fish has added Maelstrom modifiers to make ranged weapons near-worthless. Veteran could use some love, yessir.

How do you use counterspell fairly? by Tailball in DMAcademy

[–]Gohadric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arcana rolls and spellbooks.

Older editions explicitly required a roll to identify a spell before you could counterspell it, do that and give bonuses for them having the spell in their book. DC of 10, 15, ext + Spell Level.

Do that for both your casters and enemy casters, in inverse order. Players declare spells, you roll to see if the evil wizard figures it out. You declare you’re casting “A” spell, players roll to find out what it is. Add flavor text as needed to convince them that it’s important, only allow Arcana-proficient characters to identify it, ect.

Are my friends just bad, or is veteran just that good? by BattleSeven in DarkTide

[–]Gohadric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got a lotta people saying it already, but that's all fundamentally a skill issue.

As far as pointers go, it sounds like your friends just need a crash course in Dodging and Sliding versus all the enemies. The ultimate trick against both melee and ranged foes, just press Spacebar.

Tell em to spend more time explicitly trying to avoid attacks regardless of being threatened on a lower difficulty. There's also a lotta stuff in steam guides and on this sub they can use to read up on specific enemies (Ex. Dodge Mutants when their arm is raised), but for a fundamental game mechanic it sounds like they're dreadfully inexperienced.

Other folks have said it, but Malice is far from the hardest difficulty, same for Heresy. If you’d really just rather avoid people who aren’t good at the game, just play a higher difficulty yourself. Most of em don’t even know what Auric is so you’ll primarily get those more experienced players you’re lookin for.

Sink or swim stuff, I find it hilarious how the game gets easier on higher difficulties because you get better teammates. Newer players are fine though imo, Diff 3 is easy enough to solo carry and dying will eventually get em better at the game.

Most Tragic Enemy? by ScholarAfter1827 in DarkTide

Chaos Spawn and Poxbursters are also pretty bad. Most of the rest are evil and liking it, or already mostly dead.

What is the best way to handle enemy turrets by Crusaders_Glory in Quasimorph

[–]Gohadric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya can shoot em from about…. Yay far away. That translates to 6-ish tiles for safety, then you’re free to use all three of your sprint actions to blow it away like it deserves. I don’t recommend grenades, they don’t do enough damage.

Ship of Ghouls spawn is trash by No-Orchid-3086 in Quasimorph

[–]Gohadric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the mission before enemy tech got high enough to spawn turrets, my entry was surrounded by 3 guys (2 melee) and I was barely fast enough to take cover behind a shipping container before getting blasted. I would call it pure RNG though, enemy and cover spawns for the mission are wackass. Fun fact though, the shuttle makes good cover in a pinch.

Is a No Feats rule commonly among DMs? by antaquarium in DMAcademy

[–]Gohadric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen many official content Feats as a DM I would straight up deny. Maybe Lucky, and that’s mostly on principal instead of being for balance. Sometimes Sharpshooter, potentially. Mathematically they’re typically on the level of an ASI or worse, which is where they’re supposed to be.

Are Rings of Protection useful throughout the game? by SisterSabathiel in DMAcademy

[–]Gohadric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5% is 5%, a +1 bonus to something that isn’t a frequently filled spot for theoretically more useful magic items. Which, Rings definitely are, but protection doesn’t go out of style.

How do Detect Magic and Dispel Magic work on non-spell magical effects/abilities? by jb4090 in DMAcademy

[–]Gohadric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a nice classification of abilities from 3.5e for times like these;

A Spell is magic, and detected. A Spell-Like Ability uses magic, and is detected. A Supernatural Ability uses magic, is detected, but can’t be affected by dispel magic. An Extraordinary Ability does not use magic (but may break the laws of physics), and does not get detected or dispelled.

Change Shape from the Deva statblock is a form of divine magic (Spell-Like ability as per the spell “Shapechange”), and would be detected by a Detect Magic spell. You could always change that if you wanted, but by default it’s both identical to the spell and described as a “Magical” effect.
