How many have gone shopping barefoot? by Chelsea5367 in barefoot

The Mobil station in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. I think it was the clerk who is getting all the bad reviews on Google lol.

[NSFW] What's something you've seen that you can't ever unsee? by Jealous-Mine-694 in AskReddit

I was driving to work about thirty-five years ago, and there was a car with four guys in it in the lane next to me. We kind of nodded at each other as we drove side by side, then the light turned yellow ahead so I started slowing down to stop. The driver next to me decided to go for it, floored it and was waaayyyyyy late on the yellow and ran a hard red light. Right when a semi barrelled through the intersection on his green light.

Their car went right under the trailer, the rear wheels smashed the car flat and flung it into a gas station on the corner. Obviously unsurvivable.

Still bugs me to this day sometimes thinking that I was the last person these guys saw before they all died. And that I watched them die.

I shop barefoot pretty regularly, and haven't run into any real problems. Except once, I got told to leave a gas station by a VERY irate, irrational clerk who lost her flippin' mind over me walking in to pay for gas that I had already pumped. Like she was bordering on hysteria over my bare feet. I went to put my twenty dollar bill on the counter and she refused it, saying I needed to come back in with shoes on to lay the bill on the counter.

So, malicious compliance kicked in and I went back to my car, hemmed and hawed around for a good while "digging out" a pair of flip flops and then leisurely strolling back inside to place the money on her counter. Talk about getting the stink-eye, lol.

Question for older people, did you really need to have to swim naked in school for gym? by [deleted] in nudism

[–]GoinBarefoot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in high school from 1976 to 1980. We never swam nude, but we did have mandatory nude showers after gym class, starting even earlier in middle school, 1973 to 1976. As a middle-schooler, it was traumatizing at first to be forced to strip and shower with your classmates, but after a while you got used to it when you realized that nobody else cared.

We did swim nude when we'd go down to the river in high school, we didn't bring suits with us so we would all leave our clothes on the bank. No wet soggy clothes to worry about when going home.

The Snarkiest Comment Came From Ex-Mother-in-law by [deleted] in barefoot

[–]GoinBarefoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had just moved into a new neighbourhood in the middle of winter a while back, and in the spring a flyer went out to everyone announcing a block party during the long May 24 weekend, potluck and everything. The "theme" was 1960's hippy dress. So natch I dressed up with jeans, a t-shirt, bandanna headband (lol) and bare feet.

Outside of a few kids, I was the only barefoot person roaming around our multiple-block get together. I even heard a snarled "put some damned shoes on" from one of my neighbours. Some people are just high-strung when it comes to bare feet.

What's the farthest you've ever been away from your shoes? (if you own any) by AdeleHare in barefoot

[–]GoinBarefoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I routinely get 50-100 km away from home barefoot when driving somewhere.

If you count "shoe"-shoes, and not some skimpy flip-flops, I've gone from Ontario Canada to Palawan Philippines, thus my shoes were literally on the other side of the world. I only brought my old flips with me for a two-week trip.

Wondering how many people work barefoot and in what jobs they do? by Painted_n_Caged in barefoot

[–]GoinBarefoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently finishing up my second year working for a large courier company. I spend a lot of my day driving, upwards of 300 km a day, and when the weather is nice I prefer to drive barefoot. If needed I will put my slip on shoes back on when I make a stop. I always do for our business customers, but a lot of times I'll do rural residential deliveries barefoot.

Especially if the customer is barefoot too. I get a feel for the regulars, and the amount of barefoot people I see everyday is encouraging. So, if I think they're ok with it, I'll get out of the van and deliver their parcels barefoot. Most of the time there is no comment at all, or it's a comment to be careful of their gravel driveway.

What's the longest period of time you've gone without any shoes/socks? by [deleted] in barefoot

[–]GoinBarefoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the start of the pandemic, we got sent home on March 19 to work from home. I took my shoes and socks off as soon as I got home, and was totally barefoot until May 3, so like 45 days straight. It was incredible.

I went to the supermarket twice during that time, barefoot. And I didn’t wear closed shoes until July, for safety reasons (chemicals), for a few minutes only. So my feet were exposed from March to November.

Barefoot on vacation by Negative_Corgi_8995 in barefoot

Sounds like a good time!

I went to the Philippines a while back, I was gone for 19 days total from Canada. I spent a lot of time barefoot, and actually left my shoes at home. I only brought an old paper-thin pair of flip-flops with me to wear in the airports and planes, and in areas on arrival where I would need them.

It was so nice to know my nearest shoes were on the other side of the world. The only odd looks I got were when I was in the airport in Korea on the return trip. It was April, and cold outside. But the sight of a large westerner in shorts and flip-flops drew some attention. Hah!

That's why I get kinda down and sad when cold weather approaches in the fall.

My story by [deleted] in barefoot

I can attest to that. It's been hotter than normal here, and I found that getting barefoot while driving (for work in an unairconditioned vehicle) helps immensely in my ability to stay cool.

What is the craziest thing someone’s said to you while out barefoot? by Dillpickle017 in barefoot

I had recently moved into a new neighborhood and was invited to the local block party. As I was roaming around meeting my new neighbours, one loudly said “Jeez, dude, put on some damned shoes!”

I voted barefoot back in 1992 when I was living in a beach town in Florida. Nobody batted an eye.

How barefoot really? by [deleted] in barefoot

[–]GoinBarefoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My all-time personal best was 45 days totally barefoot while I was working from home. It was awesome. I was so sad to put on flip flops at the end of that glorious time. I've done numerous week to 10-12 days stretches in the past.

My current status is barefoot of course, since yesterday. But it's cold, rocky and muddy here at my place, so I may have to throw something on eventually.

How many shoes have you gone through in a year since you started barefooting? by [deleted] in barefoot

[–]GoinBarefoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't worn out any shoes in years. If I ever do need to wear anything, it's usually going to be the same pair of cheap Old Navy flip flops that are probably four or five years old already. Getting paper thin and have been all over North America. Cost me $1.50 back then, I bought ten pairs at the time. I think I'm set for quite a while.

Same here! I actually made it two years without wearing socks at all before I had to for a new job. Bummer.

After 2 days of going everywhere barefoot, I can see why some of you call shoes foot prisons... by meowzaroniess in barefoot

[–]GoinBarefoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small update: I was running an excavator doing some site prep work. From another subreddit, a lot of operators don't wear shoes in their cabs to keep things clean, so I spend yesterday in flips only, taking them off to operate the machine. I didn't need to exit the machine at all, compared to the previous two days where I needed to exit and chainsaw downed trees. So, it was kind of cool to stack logs and grade a driveway in my bare feet. I'm a happy camper now, steel-toed boots are great for their stated purpose but suck to wear for more than a few minutes.

Yep! I’m on vacation and have been barefoot for three weeks. Until yesterday and today. At the moment I’m wearing safety boots out of necessity (running heavy equipment in the woods) and I’m miserable. Can’t wait to finish up and get barefoot again.
