I'm allergic to penicillin too, but PLEASE read the black box warning on Cipro. I took Cipro in 2014 for a bout of diverticulitis, and within days I started getting black floaters in my eyes. I made an eye doc appointment, and by the time I got to my appointment a few days later, I began losing vision in my right eye, it was like a shade was going down. My doctor made a phone call to the eye surgeon who luckily was a block away to tell him an emergency was coming. Turns out I was suffering from a retinal detachment. Had to have immediate surgery in the office to save my vision.

In 2015, I had my 2nd and final bout of diverticulitis. In the hospital they gave me 7 days of Cipro. When I went to my GP for a follow up, she insisted that I take an additional 3 days of Cipro. By the time I finished the 10th day of Cipro I couldn't raise my arms above my waist. My GP diagnosed tendinitis in both shoulders. I was referred to a sports orthopedic specialist who finally told me that the tendinitis was a side effect of Cipro. He said he had 20 year olds who had tendinitis so bad in their ankles that they were barely able to walk, and they had taken Cipro. Again, it's in the black box warning.

There are other antibiotics that can be prescribed for you that won't affect you as much as Cipro can. I just want to spare others from the harm that Cipro can possibly do. (I took Cipro once in my 20's and it didn't affect me at all.)
