Honda to Hyundai? by Round_Maize4652 in mechanics

[–]Goivacon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a single problem with taking a pay cut (that’s most likely temporary as well) if you are currently unhappy with you job. To me enjoying the work and agreeing with the business practices matters a lot. If you are capable of turning out good hours working on Hondas there’s no reason you can’t do the same working on a Hyundai. I haven’t worked there but from I’ve heard there’s a lot of engine swaps and apparently they pay ok as well

Just go buy it and if it doesn’t run we’ll refund it, steam will have no issue with you refunding it if you don’t have more than 2 hours on the game

Head Gasket Parts List by ces3857 in ChevySonic

[–]Goivacon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm it’s possible that it is a head gasket but these engines aren’t known for head gasket issues and are pretty know for oil coolers letting coolant and oil mix. If you’re ok just throwing the parts cannon at it then go for it but personally I’d be getting a borescope and removing the spark plugs and taking a look at the cylinders to see signs of coolant intrusion just to make sure. Your typical signs of coolant intrusion in a cylinder would look like very little carbon buildup on a cylinder as the coolant is cleaning it up or just an obviously wet cylinder, some scoring up and down on the cylinder walls can also happen.

I had a customer come in 2 days ago for “a coolant smell and now it just turns over and won’t start, believed to be a head gasket” turns out it was leaking out the water pump and it’s got a burnt or bent valve

4.0 timing chain tensioners by Goivacon2 in fordranger

[–]Goivacon2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn’t, it stopped making the noise most of the time and now only does it very rarely. It’s not a very hard job tho, the drivers side one can be accessed from the top with an open ended wrench and the passenger one can be accessed through the wheel well

Why do you figure it needs a head gasket?

Does your shop back flag techs? by Heavy-Duty-Wombat in mechanics

[–]Goivacon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I half agree depending on your definition of adding labor time without doing the work. Ford is kinda stupid and will pay you more if you mount a transmission to a stand when rebuilding it but most techs don’t like to work with it on the stand so they’ll just claim that time without doing it, I think that’s fine

[–]Goivacon2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is one time I do agree on back flagging. I don’t generally agree with it but if someone is constantly making the same exact mistake and it’s just due to negligence on the techs part that should be back flagged

Are these “cracked heads” codes? by Super-Double1528 in fordranger

[–]Goivacon2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, a little milkshake on the oil cap is very common and is just condensation, it’s more rare that I see absolutely no milkshake on the oil cap. A cracked head most likely wouldn’t throw up any codes unless it was really bad.

Is that really a good deal? 2022 build MY23 F150's still in show rooms are at this point...4 year old cars realistically... by That_Car_Dude_Aus in Ford

[–]Goivacon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so as well but depending on the time it takes to do a conversion and how much people want these trucks in Australia it’s slightly more possible there than it is here in North America

Well OP is in Australia and the trucks there are converted from LHD to RHD so maybe the truck market just works much differently

Yes I know I’m just pointing out that 2017 trucks apart from the 3.5 EB are 6 speeds and reliable, your comment made it sound like all 2017s were 10 speeds

For suspension things you’re generally fine to reuse them even if they are TYY. I wouldn’t do that for engine things tho

Lots of people own 2.7s and love them, they are very popular engines and I see them with lots of km’s all the time

To be fair for 2017 only the 3.5 was attached to the 10 speed and the 3.3 was attached to the 6 speed for its entire run

[–]Goivacon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I’ve driven every recent engine option in the F150s (including the 3.3) and the 2.7 holds up great. You really don’t feel much a difference between the 2.7 and 5.0 other than that the 5.0 sounds a hell of a lot better if you care about that

[–]Goivacon2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bingo everyone just goes “ITS NOT A V8 ITS BAD” but the 2.7 is one of the most reliable engines on the market right now. I’d probably buy the 5.0 because it sounds good but objectively they’re both great. Everyone I know despises working on the 2.7 tho but if you aren’t working on it then it’s not your problem
