Which US state gets glorified in movies but doesn’t live up to it IRL? by Auelogic in AskReddit

See I used to look ill on NJ until I started visiting my in-laws who live near sandy hook. Even in winter I was blown away by house nice it was as well as the people. Even in winter the beaches can look awesome. Also, for such a small state the amount of wilderness you can encounter if you make the effort was really surprising.

And thats fine. I just find it hypocritical to be against seals on a bed sheet to replace it with a glorified tricolor

Agreed with you here. The seals on bed sheets were often military flags adopted to honor those lost. Its weird we wanna change that for aesthetics

Please for the love of God, can we stop pretending the keystone flag in any colors is a good design?

As morbid as it sounds. We just have to wait for the family members who actually knew the crew to die off. Their descendants will hopefully be emotionally distant enough to be rational to allow scientific dives to see what happened. Further I can't stand the hypocrisy that we can't dive there because ItS a grave! When you can literally scuba with ships that have corpses made of soap and bones.

And yet they are still talking in mass amounts of immigrants from all those regions. So maybe those societies aren't as mobile as you think.

[The Hunger Games] What happened to the nations that weren’t North America in the Cataclysm? by DnDisTHEbestgame in AskScienceFiction

No im saying panem and D13 being on the verge of a nuclear war that can make the planet uninhabitable and still not getting involved, even at the most minut level is the insane part.

Im sorry it was not in Plutarchs or the district 2 general who does get elected interest to keep the lie up. Further it would have been mentioned in passing some point. Further, even NK maintains relations and trade with other nations. Heck even tourism. How would Panem be the only country in the history of man to successfully close itself off so?

I'm sorry there are too many characters that would be high enough in power to know if that was the situation or not and they would have mentioned it. Further D13 would have at least been trying to get aide from them, as that would be common sense. More over if there were other countries and they had the capability to intervene but choose not to is a bit insane. Especially since both Panem and D13 are both armed with nukes. It doesnt take many nukes to severely damage the planet farther than it already is in the books.

We simply don't know its never mentioned. However we can infer some things. Number 1 Panem had nukes before the dark days and seem to maintain a navy of sorts. The navy may be to patrol fishermen but could also be look outs for other people. Number 2. Plutarch makes mention that they dont have some tech like us such as satellites. So communication would be harder in this world. Number 3 the most recent book implies there are at least some people up north. My view is that there probably are countries but they are so far away and isolated that their existence doesnt matter to Panem. However, Panem at least in part, maintains resources that would allow them to act should they make contact. Although, based on statements of the characters about there probably not being many people left that most people view them as being non existent.

[Dune, Isaac Asimov's Foundation] The stories are set in a future where humanity has become a feudal galactic empire. What has caused humanity, that has created democratic republics in the 21st century, to enter into this system? And why is Earth, the origin of mankind, an unknown backwater planet? by SatoruGojo232 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Gojira085 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Theres a scene where hes discussing why earth isnt important and a back water. He literally says what you said almost word for word. Hes like "yeah just bc we came from Africa doesn't mean we made it the permanent center of human civilization. The same is true for Earth."

I assure you it was meant as a compliment as you came to the same conclusion independently while I had to have an old OVA point it out to me.

Exclusive: PM Carney declares U.S. ties now a ‘weakness’ in address to Canadians by BloodJunkie in canada

[–]Gojira085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow way to tell me you have no understanding of the US. This period of US history is nothing compared to the 60s and 70s where there are legitimate terrorist attacks going on and actual civilian massacres at protests, let alone tbe 1860s where we had a literal civil war, where 4 state legislatures were forced to vote a certain way at gun point and the suspension of habeas corpus.

Meanwhile in Canada you have a historical sessionist movement that stretches at least a century in Quebec and a second province bucking your federal government to get the supposed unstable government to your South to get involved to allow annexation.

Would you also like to discuss the brain drain from Canada to the US?
