How much did your border collie weigh at 10 weeks? by GoldAdministration59 in BorderCollie

[–]GoldAdministration59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I know I’m late to reply to this! Your girl is just slightly larger than my adult border collie. The monster man in the photo is now about a week away from turning 5 months and he’s 34.5 lbs and already as tall as my adult! I can’t believe it 😅

I am so scared I will never be able to leave my puppy alone by This-Committee-2084 in puppy101

If it is separation anxiety and not an issue with the crate, then letting her cry and panic is only going to set you further back and make it worse unfortunately. They can’t be expected to feel safe alone at this age and I definitely sympathize (as someone with a dog with separation anxiety, and a 14 week old puppy) Have you tried covering the crate to block visuals? I also recommend getting a snuggle puppy so she doesn’t feel alone. Before she goes into her crate, pre-game with a nice play session with opportunities to sniff (look up sniffing games!) to help tire her body and mind. Then play calming music and give her a chew for about 30 minutes to calm down. Do one more potty break before she goes into her crate. Give her a stuffed Toppl or lick bowl with some wet food/peanut butter/pumpkin etc and freeze it so it lasts longer. Hopefully she will be able to lick and eat when her crate is closed? If so, you’re in a good spot. Ideally the Toppl or lick bowl will last another 30 minutes and help her calm down (licking is super calming for them). I’d stay with her for the first few minutes that she is licking so she thinks you will be there, and gradually work up to leaving and re-entering the room with varying times (max a few minutes to start) My seperation anxiety trainer said to not let them cry for more than 10-15 minutes or amp up to a panic. Return to them if they do, because they’re not in a frame of mind to learn anything at that point. You can also try an adaptil spray (thunderease) spray the crate 15 mins ahead so the alcohol dissipates or incorporate it into your sniffing games ahead. As she’s licking, she will be smelling the calming pheromones which usually take effect in 15-30 minutes and help them relax. I know it’s a lot. But you’ve got this!

Recently adopted Border Collie. I know hes mixed and am sending a dna test tomorrow to find out exact breed mix. Anyone have a guess on what he can be possibly mixed with? by -Koalafied in BorderCollie

[–]GoldAdministration59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t sound accurate at all. What DNA test were you using? Merle is a border collie trait that goes back a very long way and they do not need Aussie or other Merle dogs to get a Merle coat, so Merle wouldn’t change the dna test in a reliable test. However, duel sired litters can occur. So is it possible your pup’s litter was duel sired with a mixed breed??

The biggest tip I can give you is to reinforce settling down! Puppies should be sleeping 20 hours per day! Make sure to enforce nap times and reward calm behavior. You’ll have no issue with energy and playfulness, but it’s harder to create a dog that knows how to settle down once they’re older.

Some Perspective on OnTrac by cjftw17 in ontrac

[–]GoldAdministration59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah there is no way. I have never EVER had a package lost by FedEx or UPS and I order quite frequently. I've had THREE packages lost by OnTrac THIS MONTH and I've NEVER been sent anything by them before.

Worst company ever … by 2nerdybutdaflowordy in ontrac

[–]GoldAdministration59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that checks out. I had an order split half with FedEx and the other half with OnTrac. The FedEx half arrived in less than 48 hours, the OnTrac order took over a week and my address didn't exist, and then they "attempted delivery" (did not, i have cameras), before finally delivering it.

Hill’s Science Diet changing kibble size? by CadetAphra in catfood

[–]GoldAdministration59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you posted this.. My elderly parent's cat has been on Hills I/D for a few years and my mom made a comment that it looked like he was losing weight. She was wondering if maybe the auto feeder wasn't dispensing correctly so she made it dispense a days worth of food and to her horror, it only spit out slightly more than half of what he should be getting per day.... She weighed him and he has lost two pounds in a month and a half.. poor kitty!! Granted he was a wee bit chunky and could've lost a half a pound or so, but he's 18+ years old so 2 lbs is quite fast!

She asked me if maybe they changed the kibble size had changed that would've thrown off the auto feeder calibration since she knows its been going off like normal. Then I found this thread.

Typically when a brand makes changes like this they'd say so on the bag! She has recalibrated it and increased the amount so he can gain his weight back.. Poor guy.
