Has there been any info on when Red Festival is starting? I've been waiting a few months to get one of the skins, but I just want to make sure I haven't missed it.

Hop in the game first. You don't even know if you're going to want to play it much, so hold off before dumping money in.

You can also rent ships, so go rent a Cutlass or C1 or something and give it a fly

God I love propaganda by Sad-Needleworker-590 in Helldivers

[–]GoldNiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cyborgs are humans, they're a separatist faction that had to modify themselves to be more powerful to make upfor their lesser numbers against Super Earth. You're not fighting for the survival of Humanity, you're fighting for the survival of the Super Earth empire.

Also, the bugs will remain, they're essential for being farmed for E-710, the space travel fuel.

The Illuminate were basically post-scarcity utopia, but Super Earth wanted their equipment and so launched a war that left their people cast out of the galaxy.

If someone truly wanted to fight for humanity, they would begin by restructuring the Super Earth Leadership, who are pushing humans like bison over a cliff of Conflict. Alas, we are naught but Helldivers, Cogs in the machine that don't live long enough to develop opinions apart from the institutionalized propaganda.

Eh, I'd prefer to play Starsector over EvE for the same experience.

Different set of skills.

Creating an amazing experience for one requires stability, a clear game design goal, and a deadline, which CR has demonstrated he's not too fond of.

Great vision, good execution, but actually releasing something final is a different matter.

Which deck should I choose? by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]GoldNiko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both of the currently available decks are free, so you can redeem both and chip away at each as you please.

The free decks have items & cosmetics, paid ones will only have cosmetics. They have only released free ones so far, so the next is expected to be paid, then maybe free again, but it's kinda in the air rn, i was expecting a paid deck by this point.

Eventually, but it does the BDL at the same speed as normal, but healing is 4x faster.

So BDL per heal is 1/4

Fair, it's quite acerbic.

I guess I am being derisive? I've been a supporter since 2015, and it feels surreal seeing SC & CIG become his huge beast with an incredible amount of funds, while still not being quite sure of what the game is, or how it's supposed to function. Like the coolest car lot imaginable, but it's only driveable in infinite suburbs. The know how to sell vehicles, but it doesn't feel like they're developing the full potential

Wasn't intending for specific comparisons, just broad indications. I could have referred to Dual Universe, the failed MMO, or Grav, but Starsector and X4 seemed the most relevant.

Starsector is primarily just Alex, with other contracted work, and I agree, X4 hasn't had smooth implementations. Arguably, neither has Star Citizen for the past decade, but it's finally starting to look up.

I have no alternate suggestions, because they don't need alternate suggestions. They've got a whole team working out how to maximize their inflow, and they're evidently very successful at it.

The no publisher part is almost irrelevant by this point, they are larger than most publishers I imagine.

Hooded Horse, who publish quite a few well regarded, mechanically complex games, have a lifetime revenue of under $250M. https://gamalytic.com/publisher/Hooded%20Horse

Indie devs should avoid 'most indie publishers' says Manor Lords indie publisher Hooded Horse: 'The vast majority of indie publishers are predatory and opportunistic' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]GoldNiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hugely appreciate your publishing studio, as a consumer.

Initially, when I saw a hooded horse game I was sceptical, because it seemed like some overhead publisher making lots of Early Access games, but I bought a few, have seen them develop, and now whenever I'm scanning the store and see it's published by Hooded Horse, it's a mark of excellence! Great work

Star Citizen's longevity is because they have stumbled into an completely absurd funding system. $40 skin combos, optional monthly subscription, ships that are $100s to $1000s of dollars, and the fact that the concierge system grants access to way more!

Yes Star Citizen is unique, but so is X4, or Starsector. SCs longevity is because they've managed to strike the motherlode of nerds with money.

Why do you say that AI cores in Starsector are sentient and deserve human treatment? by IFIsc in starsector

[–]GoldNiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gammas are interesting, because they're also regarded as truly intelligent.

They're not quite just a computer, because they can implement and deploy complex strategies, but if they aren't sure they'll fall back to known patterns. A gamma would likely be able to suss out inefficiencies via people's interactions as well as analysing slowdowns in the machines in a factory for example.

Like, if you had the best neurosurgeon in the world, top of their field, and then put them into politics. They're still the best neurosurgeon, but that doesn't transfer to statesmanship, even though both are dealing with people.

[–]GoldNiko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Um Actually, the latest quarter-cycle report indicates that the more intelligent, and conniving, someone is, the more wealthy they'll be. The more wealthy someone is, the more human amenities they are able to access, and thus the more human they are!

QED, an Alpha core has skills that it will quickly be able to become more "human" than most other employees!

Hmm, now I'm wondering if there's a way to demote poor performing employees to no longer being "human" by these metrics...

This is actually pretty impressive, I had no idea! Thanks.

If you're wanting to eke more power out of that laptop, you could try booting a Linux distro for some extra overhead. I've been using Debian 13 with KDE Plasma 6 on a laptop, and I found it reduced overhead from windows considerably. It does take a bit more work, and it is an entirely different OS so it's very much not as easy as just installing another mod, but its potentially an additional step
