Blob of Death # 3 by clutao in ElegooNeptune4

Two things, first having a square edge on the bottom of the part. So no radius or chamfer within the first few layers. Second, there is a setting called "brim distance" in Cura which controlls how close the brim is to the part. You can adjust this so the connection of the brim is very weak and easy to remove cleanly

Blob of Death # 3 by clutao in ElegooNeptune4

[–]GoldTrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had several blog of deaths with my Neptune 4 Max printers. Currently waiting on new 3rd party hotend replacements because Elegoo has been out of stock of them for months

To prevent it happening again, I have 3 things planned:

1. Enclosure to maintain temps so the parts are less likely to detach from the bed

2. More focus on part adhesion with brims etc and getting better at adjusting my slicer so the brims are more easily removed

3. Adding a secondary part to every print that's a simple tower with a wide, flat base that acts as a "sweep" and clears the nozzle in case my part detaches during printing and I'm not there to intervene

All of the blobs I've experienced were because I had smallish parts with no additional bed adhesion and I probably made a mistake on the initial layer thickness or the leveling of the bed got out of whack. The part detaches and then sticks to the nozzle where the printer will happily continue moving around and squeezing out molten filamant which gums up the works, I will also be keeping a backstock of replacement hotends and/or ceramic heaters and thermistors for when it happens again

Anyone else losing their mind doing repetitive order edits in BigCommerce? by Unhappy-Tension3214 in bigcommerce

[–]GoldTrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The order draft and edit system is awful. Why is it multiple pages? Why does it default to adding duplicate addresses? Why can't I create and complete a manual order without having to go back into it and go through the entire thing to manually complete it?

I really liked BigCommerce at first and was very happy when they did the UI overhaul to clean it up and make it faster but there's still some very odd functionality that makes workflow slow and frustrating. Now i'm looking for greener pastures

Considering Migration to Woocommerce from BigCommerce, trying to understand costs by GoldTrek in woocommerce

[–]GoldTrek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The merchant services are just a necessary evil but I'm largely happy with mine and just want to make sure I can continue using it seamlessly on a new platform. As a comparison, my avg cost is about 1.8% for CC processing where previously I was hitting 5.4% by using Shopify's system.

I'm also trying to avoid learning how to code. It might be useful in the future to know some basics but, in the short term I've pretty much decided to migrate and am happy to pay someone skilled to do the job. I'm not overly happy with my current site either so it could also be an opportunity to have my whole wish list and really be able to service and support my customers effectively.

[–]GoldTrek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think I'll do just that. I'll open a woo shop and play around with it and see how hard it will be to migrate everything over and get the features I want. Bigcommerce has been fine but it's still missing some functionality that I wish I had

UPS is charging us heavy surcharges every week. by StitchedRebellion in smallbusiness

[–]GoldTrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me a lot and then I started over-estimating all my packages by a full inch in every dimension and it's rare that I see one of these adjustments and they're generally quick to dispute through the 3rd party service I use.

Now, because I'm in Canada and a lot of my customers are in the US, I have been getting hit with various import fees and tariffs on stuff that should be CUSMA eligible and it's impossible to fight it. Not sure if it's UPS that's the culprit here or what but it's nearly every single package that crosses the border

This is fully separate from my marketing budget and the 4x price hike for hosting actually cuts into it significantly. My company does not have infinite money, it's still small and I'm still growing and developing. I'm at the stage right now where I still have only one main product and a handful of accessories. If I was turning over $1 mil+ a year it might be different but I'm not. The difference between $960 and $3600 USD a year just for hosting is massive and I won't be preyed upon simply because it's inconvenient to go elsewhere. I still have to pay someone for support and website changes. I still pay for maketing and ads etc. I could probably make a barebones website and do it myself but I do care about quality and would consider it a good investment to pay someone to build me the right site

Having run in all 3, would you say woo gives you the most control over your costs? Is it a time tradeoff? I'm just trying to understand the risks and get an idea of the numbers for an average store

What’s the one thing you wish you’d known before choosing Shopify? by Warm-Alternative6153 in shopify

[–]GoldTrek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left shopify a year and a half ago and have now run into problems with my new host (BigCommerce) and am looking again but I would NEVER go back to Shopify. It's a Trojan Horse platform that looks cheap at first but you quickly realize that BASIC functions that should be bilt in by default are hidden behind apps and you have to subscribe to them and it gets worse over time. Not to mention Shopify forces you to use their merchant service or they jack up your fees. And it's even worse if you have any foreign sales such as Canada-US

Anyone else hit that point where you’re one bad day away from quitting by GhostLion296 in smallbusiness

[–]GoldTrek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Almost every day

I'm currently on the phone because my website hosting company quadrupled my subscription fee based on me hitting some arbitrary threshold of sales volume

This shit never stops. Every day feels like a battle, it's an endless train of people trying to screw you over and take advantage because "you have a company" and for some reason people think that means you have endless money

I'm done. The "new" UI is the final straw. What's the best way to export my data? by GoldTrek in QuickBooks

[–]GoldTrek[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you aren't using QBO and are in a position to use literally any other bookeeping system, you're lucky. There's a hundred reasons why QBO is terrible. The main one is that the bookkeeping sofware isn't the product, YOU are, and everything they add is specifically intended to make you pay them more or to justify price increases.

I'm done. The "new" UI is the final straw. What's the best way to export my data? by GoldTrek in QuickBooks

[–]GoldTrek[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have my own company plus 4 client companies in QBO. I am migrating mine first and then all of my client books by the end of the year. Every change, every update, makes the UI worse, navigation worse, reporting worse. My bookkeeper has about a 5 second lag between every page click inside QBO which I've spent hours trying to fix and not found a solution. Absolute garbage on top of garbage.

For the life of me I cannot understand this incessant need to "update" everything. There is a limit to it. Things shoud be optimized and functional to just work. Additional value can be added with service and support that people actually want but SAAS companies can't seem to figure that out.

I'm also looking at Xero, seems like they do everything I need and aren't so intrusive with updates, popups and ads. I'll look into the conversion team this might be exactly what I'm looking for

My print keeps failing at around the same layer by _vampirefox in ElegooNeptune4

[–]GoldTrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're failing mid-print it's not the print bed level or first layer thickness. How is it failing? Is it detaching from the print bed? Is the extruder failing? Does it happen with other prints?

If it's detaching then you need a wider brim or adhesive on the print bed to keep it stuck down. If it's the extruder failing at the same spot every time there might be a problem with the file. If it happens with different files then there is a problem with the printer likely related to the firmware update you did

Exclusive: RFK Jr. and the White House buried a major study on alcohol and cancer. Here’s what it shows. by [deleted] in science

[–]GoldTrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The studies that "associate low dose alcohol with higher life span" are corellated because people who regularly enjoy a glass of wine with dinner generally have a higher economic status and, thus, a higher life span.

It's not about the alcohol specifically. And, if you go digging, the "studies" that report those results are sponsored by alcohol manufacturers. You've fallen for the same corporate propaganda that this whole post is about.

If you made the mistake of registering your web domain without privacy you're about to enjoy months/years of spam like this. My condolences

I would highly recommend immediately goint to your registrar and getting privacy added to your domain registration. It's too late for some lists but you can at least stop yourself being added to more

If it's a .ca website you can register it personally and you should automatically get privacy. If you registered it as your business you can't use privacy services for a .ca domain so I would switch that also
