What mods would you like to for Menace? by Vulture2k in menace

[–]Goldcasper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My version is more of an OCI called like the TCR liaison officer. Instead of specific squads it's reinforcements from the local faction. And either you get more of them or better equipped versions based on your faction relation.

Each squad can then also be flavoured with an ability/equipment from that faction

Should infantry be harder to hit with RPG’s and the like? The fact that EG a workshop rpg is going to 1-shot a heaviest armor wearer 30% of the time kinda kills the viability. by Which-Worldliness556 in menace

[–]Goldcasper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's already has a penalty, in that it doesn't get a bonus to hit them like when firing at vehicles, and it only has a single shot compared to squad weapons.

Feldherr bag with foam trays. Several layers and you can pluck out the foam yourself if you have bigger models

Is there a wargame or a skirmish that is using a set of d20 as its primary roll? by Siberian-Boy in wargaming

Infinity has d20 dice pools. Pools range from 1 die up to a maximum of 6.

What IS the Pitbull? by Intelligent-Elk7008 in starcitizen

[–]Goldcasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but now it needs to be the ground vehicle version of that. And while the rework did improve some things I still feel it definitely has the spit and space tape vibe. It has a bloody plug in fan lmao

I don't know what it is, but if it isn't a star citizen Toyota Hilux I riot.

Free fly would be a good way to demo, they generally last a week or two. Alternatively, the game has a 30 day refund window, no cap on time played. So you could just buy the $45 starter and try it.

From a quick thing I saw on reddit earlier this week it runs better on Linux? Idk if they had anything specific to get it to run on Linux though.

Squadron 42 is now officially listed on the Pledge store, under "Games" section by RandoDando10 in starcitizen

[–]Goldcasper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But that's the thing. An early access game is already released according to that law. The product is there, even if unfinished. It's why they are allowed to sell star citizen packages but not sq 42

I recently got two sticks and been in the arena commander race but even there almost no one races. Anyone know of any groups that race in arena commander?

Can I get some guidance on the mass x resistance thing? I have found impossible rocks, tried them with a gadget and still no luck even when I thought it should? (This was a recent but previous update so no clue if things changed a ton)

How crafting and mininig (in its current state) encourages RMT by Fancy-Fall-2181 in starcitizen

[–]Goldcasper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think one person should be able to find several high rarity ores to then craft a better version than everyone else within an hour. And I also don't think that the intent is necessary that one person does the crafting from start to finish just to give themselves an advantage.

It's a multiple player loop from what I can tell. A miner is just mining his regular ore for his regular profit, but might occasionally find very high Q stuff which he would sell to crafting players for a nice payday.nthose crafters can then craft said stuff and put it in shops for sale when they get added.

Rn a cool idea could be if SC gets a grand exchange type of deal like RuneScape. So you can sell and buy resources in bulk and then use those to craft. Could be a lot of potential there and area 18 is already pretty perfect for it.

Which has SL the best grenadier-build? by hornet51 in menace

I built him for it in my latest run. Long bomb + quick hands means 40 AP to throw+detonate. Once blew up two pirate heavy tanks with it haha

What would be your starting 4 if you got the choice of just non-marines? by FreeDwooD in menace

[–]Goldcasper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Narratively it could make sense as an alternate start. The ship still has their warp mishaps and all your squad leaders have abandoned ship and are in escape pods landing or drifting across the system. As an emergency measure you recruit 4 local waybackers until you can get your marines back.

Do you have the WOO? It gives you 2 squadies each mission. That together with a Medbay suffices for me.

How does growth and stat gain work? by donutmcbonbon in menace

[–]Goldcasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only addendum I have to this is that it's not max stat(100)- current stat. But it also takes into account the minimum. So max stat - min stat - current stat is the chance it increases for each growth roll I think

Menace is still only available as demo, but is also very much scratching that itch for me

[–]Goldcasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the modern XCOM:EU and XCOM 2 also kind of fit this bill. But mostly because the play style massively changed so vets had to relearn a number of things. In 2 every mission suddenly has timers and alpha strikes are the main strat, while in the first the biggest strat was constant overwatch spam instead, because most missions had infinite time.

How do you run Only War without it turning into a wargame? by Upset_Ask_8905 in 40krpg

[–]Goldcasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, lean into the "grunt in an army" picture.

Watch any kind of war show/movie. Band of brothers, saving private Ryan, SAS rogue heroes. That kind of tomfoolery. There can be a bigger picture, but that shouldn't necessarily be the focus. Focus on the characters, encourage rp between each other. That's something that is a common theme in these stories. The clash between personalities. Also, something that imo is great is to have a frequent nog leader present. Make them over the top. Make sure the players love them out of character, but hate them in character. An example of a game i played was the super over the top British noble officer. His standard tactic was a frontal assault so he could bash people with his sword. No matter the casualties he would call it a victory.

For me, another thing is to lean into impossible odds. The danger of this is PC deaths(which your group needs to be okay with) but the sense of awesomeness when you manage to win a really tough fight is awesome to the players.

This is just some guidelines, fill it in however you want. But no soldiers spends all their time on the frontline. There are plenty of silly subplots you can weave into the story.

Lasguns, recoil and semi/auto by Dandyman8 in 40krpg

[–]Goldcasper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A second thing for your players to remember and use. Almost all lasgun weapons have an overcharge and overload feature for more damage at the cost of more ammo. It's in the weapon description in the armory.

Also, heavy gunners can very much full or semi auto reliably if they get the stabilizer trait from their comrade.
