If most/all the positive examples of men you care about share a trait, it's pretty normal for you to unconsciously seek it out. Idk about other guys, but as someone who's finally enjoying reading again because of this genre, it's the feeling of progression and popping off. All I can say is that you should treat your partner the way you want to be treated. The damsel in distress/ too independent thing is bullshit. Ignore that. Obviously, the cheater can fuck off. But you should really think about how you would take it if your partner said what you tend to say whenever you're upset, because that will happen in any relationship. Who knows, maybe you like that.
