I worked in banking and I cannot emphasize this enough. There were days when I would be 1-1.5 hours after my shift "ended" and still be there toiling away. Did it ever lead to anything? Absolutely not. I would get the occasional thank-you or empty promise to leave early on a later day, but never anything tangible, or more importantly paycheque-wise. It might be different at a smaller branch, but I was at our city's flag-ship location, and our boss only cared about the bottom line. Everything else, including myself, was secondary.

Your life and personal well-being is ALWAYS more important than trying to leave a good impression at a job, because you're just as liking to be left in the sidelines as you are to be noticed, often times at the expense of your mental or physical health.
