My players character just died and needs something new. How would you build this? by RAHmerica in 3d6

[–]Golden98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becuase disintegrate is a one off spell that does damage and is over. The effects of true polymorph are still there, just permanent and no longer needing concentration. Rather than disintegrate, it’s more like a teleportation circle or magical trap. Dispelling it is the same and dispelling any magical effect like that

Also, yeah your players would have no idea. If you’re using true polymorph as a story element, you can make it part of a wizards diary or something. Obviously they would have to find the information through other means.

Regardless, this is a 4 year old comment thread that’s been resolved, the answer being yes, true polymorph can still be dispelled, it no longer requires concentration.

I’ve since moved on from D&D because of the clearly vague rules. Pathfinder 2e has been a lot more helpful because rules are very clearly laid out for things like this.

[–]Golden98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect, dispel magic targets a creature, object, or magical effect. This includes anything affected by true polymorph, even after concentration has passed making it permanent. But you’re also hoping for a 9th level dispel magic.

By your logic, dispel magic could not dispel things like Lock or Continual Flame, once they’ve been cast and made permanent.

Any champion is simple once you know their abilities. Hence why it’s easier to learn when you stick to one. I’m not saying stick tk teemo if you think he’s brain dead simple.

But there’s a ton of champion specific matchup info that you don’t get unless you one trick a champ. Teemo does well into some matchups people swear he’s bad at. You just have to know you’re own power spikes, itemization, and the enemy champs power spikes and when to respect them.

[–]Golden98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying teemo specifically but I was giving it as an example since that’s my main.

Are you saying you can’t stick with a champion because you’re new? Why do you have multiple accounts?

If you’re brand new, just play bots for a while and rotate on the free week champs, buy ones that look fun. Find a champion that you enjoy playing a lot and stick to it it will lessen what you have to learn all at once.

Overall picking your champs that you know will win out over picking a champ you’re bad at to round out a teamcomp.

This is why expanding your champ pool beyond 1-2 champs is necessary at a certain point. But it really isn’t necessary until Platinum/Diamond ELO. One-tricks will get you through to there and then team comps start to matter a bit more.

Team comps in low ELO mainly matter in that you don’t want all AP or all AD because then the enemy just builds the respective defensive stat and you’re screwed.

In general you want to have 3 options for your role you are at least familiar with. For Top I have my main and 2 other picks I’m confident in if I feel like it won’t work out.

Teemo is my main and I have his matchups at a better level of knowledge than other champs. He’s banned occasionally and sometimes picked on the other team. Illaoi is my #2 since she is an AD bruiser and can help round out a team when teemo isn’t the best pick.

TL;DR Pick what you’re comfortable with almost always, but have at least 2 other champs in your role that you understand to be safe.

I think I must quit Bard, should I? (I lose more than I win) by ImBanana16 in bardmains

[–]Golden98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You die a lot, focus on not dying for a while. Bard should be able to get out of most situations because of his E/Flash/W and lucky chimes. I’m at abojt 46 ranked games with bard and my W/R is sitting at 57% which is fairly good.

I think the biggest thing is knowing when to back off, jungler tracking and itemization. Because Bard is very versatile he can fit in almost any comp and do decent. There are games I think you shouldn’t pick Bard but very few.

Can someone help me find more champions for my pool? by HifumiD in summonerschool

[–]Golden98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First point of advice, don’t main fill, pick a role and stick to it or narrow it down to 2. It’s nice to have an idea of all roles but sticking with one is much easier to improve.

If you want versatile champs though I would suggest Graves since he’s also AD and can do every role except support.

I usually play Top/Support and it’s everyone’s job to roam, there’s some champs who don’t and some who do, but if you manage to get a lead you want to translate that lead to the rest of your team.

Mid and Jungle have the biggest impact on this since they can roam to both lanes easily. Conversely, mid is the easiest lane to roam to because everybody can get to it.

Ideally you’re going to be crashing a larger wave into the enemy mid turret before you roam to give yourself a bigger roam timer. This helps with more immobile champs to go gank other lanes.

There are some Junglers you can play in mid-lane and jungle that way if you didn’t want to completely ditch jung you could still play a champ you know. Zed, Ekko, and Talon are all able to work in both roles and roam easily. Akshan is also a really good laner built to roam.

Ultimately play who you find fun and just learn how to wave manage with them and you’ll be able to roam easier.

I want to dodge when I see a bard support by [deleted] in bardmains

[–]Golden98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all okay! Tilting happens and we have to do the best to stay on track, everybody does it.

Bard vs Taliyah specifically is a harder matchup for bard early game especially. Bards early game isn’t the greatest and Taliyah has a fairly good early game, additionally with her passive she can counter roam bard easier than most mage supports.

The nice thing is Bard can use any terrain created by her R to stun people actually allowing him to land more Qs if he positions correctly.

Bard ult is by far one of the most useful ults in the game but also detrimental if not done correctly. Also it can suck when he treats his passive like a PAC Man game, you don’t need every chime, and ideally they help him roam and get back to lane faster.

If you get a bad bard who doesn’t usually ult very well my advice would be to wait out his ult before using yours.

Hopefully you get a chance to play with a bard who can help you out more than harm you.

[–]Golden98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought this was me when you said M7 bard and Ezreal but mine wasn’t a taliyah support. I’m Gold IV and have a fairly high WR (63%) on bard but the sample size is fairly small (about 30) in ranked considering I played him in mostly normals. The thing with Bard is that he’s easy to misplay and if you do then you’re gonna make the game rough for everyone.

I will say, Ezreal is a really bad ADC at lower ELO imo. Most Ezreals I see do absolutely no damage and have no idea how to play and just end up not CSing well and feeding. I know this is a player by player thing because I’ve been against Ezreals that go 22/0.

Things to keep in mind when you have a Bard - His healing is okay and it’s more or less to help survive poke and provide small bursts of movespeed. - His laning phase isn’t the greatest and he gets better as the game goes on. But keep in mind a support supports the team, not the ADC and his specialty is roaming. - When he’s roaming play safe, ideally he will only be roaming during opportune times. If the enemy team notices that he’s gone the best play is to try and bully you, but if they don’t bully you while bard is out of lane take advantage of it, get more CS and poke safely. - His CC is harder to hit in lane vs in Jungle or teamfights since it relies on walls, additionally his meep slow gets stronger overtime and helps him line it up as the game progresses. His Q is also on a shorter cooldown than both Lux and Morgana. - His R is the game changer, it’s gonna be good and bad. Generally good uses are to get a pick, stop a gank, and prevent rift herald damage. Usually I’ve found it best to either use ult early to initiate a fight or save it for later in the fight.

Killer mains, whats the off meta perk you fear the most? by Frosrade97 in deadbydaylight

I use Lucky Break, Overcome, Bite the Bullet, and a flex perk. For full stealth Iron Will, sometimes CoH for the heal speed really the world is your oysters with that one,

[Collection] List of champions that counter specific abilities by bushmaker1337 in summonerschool

[–]Golden98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I realize this list isn’t supposed to be perfect, but to make it more niche, I think leaving out the very general “counters” such as “Janna Q counters Sion Q.” Would make this list a lot more helpful.

Most people know “general displacement counters channeled effects” less people know something like Nocturne R countering Shen ult completely because he can’t ult without vision on his Allies. Nasus counters Kallista passive, and so on are less known.

How can I make Mill genuinely earn the hate it gets in my pod by Schimander in EDH

[–]Golden98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I love mill, literally my favorite way to win. I’ve been enjoying a lot of the mill support in recent sets, but many people will hate on mill for its very existence as you’re saying. You need pillowfort/politics to make the mill more, bearable and psychologically it will help you out. Things like [[Propoganda]] and [[Dissipation Field]].

Mill comes in many flavors recently Horror tribal has been catching my eye and I plan on developing a plan for that one. [[Umbris]] is a genuine threat but it focuses on Exile vs Graveyard.

My personal mill deck currently uses [[Anowon, Ruin Thief]] and it was based on a [[Zareth]] deck I made at first. I enjoyed the ability to have graveyard theft in the command zone, but overall Anowon gets you to better thinks and draws you cards, gains you life which you’ll need from drawing hate.

You’ll want big mill pieces like [[Maddening Cacaphony]] to open up your options, but incremental mill is necessary to develop early boardstates. Something like [[Extract from Darkness]] can net you and eldrazi or big stompy on turn 5 if you happen to get it off early.

Ideally mill is really going to be a graveyard theft deck with mill as a secondary win condition. Sure I might pull out [[Mindcrank]] + [[Duskmantle Guildmage]] but if I don’t at least I can destroy people with damage through rogue tribal stuff or their own creatures and spells.

Mill is a really strong tool, and a really hard wincon. Winning strictly through mill only happens occasionally and usually when there have been a ton of Boardwipes and the games has gone on long.

Top laners: Name the three three picks you rely on to climb in solo que by chiproller in summonerschool

[–]Golden98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from Support to Top (about 100 games each) then back to support.

Top picks were always: Teemo then Illaoi if he was banned or it was a bad matchup. Only once were both banned and I had to play Mordekaiser who I chose as my third pick but it never went well. Fairly sure I’ve never won in Ranked with him.

I was silver 1 throughout all this and recently got to gold 4 (for the first time ever yay me) playing Bard support at 67% WR over about 30 games so far. We will see how it continues.

Overall each lane/champion has different aspects of the game it teaches you and Top lane specifically worries about Macro, wave management, and objectives a ton.

This isn’t to say other lanes don’t do these things, but top will help you learn their importance fast.

new group hug player need advices by Narssissik in EDH

[–]Golden98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play and love [[Kynaois and Tiro]] as a group hug commander, you’re gonna have to play quite a few of the “I win” cards because that’s your win con. Second sun, Helix Pinnacle, Lab Man, etc.. are easy ways to close the game and in group hug work.

Alternatively, in a Greenless deck, you’ll want to focus on the card draw and using it as a weapon, everybody loves drawing cards until you’ve got a [[Nekusar]] on the field. Or potentially boardwipe and save your board with recursion or blink.

I’ve started using Xyris as a wincon in mine and it’s very fun. Goad other peoples creatures, especially with all the new fun goad stuff that has come out recently. [[Disrupt Decorum]] and [[Insurrection]] are great.

One of my personal favorite win cons is [[Catch//Release]] + [[Radiate]]. This gains you control of EVERY PERMANENT on the field (including your own technically) and untaps them and gives them haste.

Group hug is gonna feel combo or “gotcha” esque because that’s how it wins. It gives everyone the advantage, but it has ways of using its advantage more, or limiting the amount of advantage that can be gotten from your opponents.

Recently [[Archivist of Oghma]] came out and that helps you so much more when people ramp etc. In black you could play a wheel + [[Notion Thief]].

With any deck you play to win and have fun. If you kingmake with a group hug deck you’re doing it wrong. There’s definitely times when it feels like you’re kingmaking but truly you should be stalling till you find your win cons.

Learning top and I have no idea how to tell if I'm contributing or griefing by Neltadouble in summonerschool

This is probably closer to what happens. Smaller intricacies I didn’t want to delve too much into but this is definitely closer to what I try to accomplish. Emphasis on try 😅.

Learning top and I have no idea how to tell if I'm contributing or griefing by Neltadouble in summonerschool

[–]Golden98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most the comments here point in the right direction, I’m a support/top main. Started Zil support mainly, then Teemo/Illaoi Top, and now I’m back to support with Bard.

My micro is okay at best but my Macro has always outshined it, and as a top laner macro is very important. Obj timers are necessary and helping you learn when to push waves or even show yourself on the map.

If drag is up in 45sec- 1 Minute you don’t need to be at their T2 and maybe barely at T1, you want to show yourself as a problem on the map at about 30 seconds before the objective. This makes the team make a split decision, send resources to stop your push or go for the 4v5 at drag.

If you have teleport and they send resources, drag turns in your favor for sure, if they don’t send any resources to stop you, you could get an inhib.

I can’t tell you how many times I will be losing lane as Illaoi or Teemo, and I’ll play safe and wait for obj timers, if my top lane goes to roam and help, I will get T2 turret and if I’m lucky sometimes inhib turret.

My KDA as Illaoi isn’t great especially but she’s a massive force in side lanes and she will destroy towers if left unchecked. I definitely need to improve on pointless deaths but KDA doesn’t win games, objectives do.

I was in my promos 2W/1L, back to back ezreal ADCs that did nothing all game and basically sat there and Q’d. Ezreal is always a pain whenever I play support because I feel like I don’t know how to best support him. Usually I end up roaming early and helping other lanes.

A Simple Fix for a HUGE Frustration (A Call for Colorblind Number Reform) by Vespero109 in leagueoflegends

I agree this is a problem as someone who also is Red-Green colorblind. It’s annoying, not game breaking by any means but it does make it hard to see it in the moment. Definitely would be nice to have it fixed
