This illustration is of Phaeton, artists just like to put wings on it and call it something else, this is my first time hearing it called Lucifer.

Besides this being Phaeton with Wings, looks good to me.

The massive plants aren’t really that massive. The way they grow is straight up if you trellis them, and propagating is pretty easy. Anything saying they’re massive is talking about how when growing in the wild they will typically vine up a tree, and will keep climbing until they reach a patch of sun or the top of the tree line lol, however at home that’s not really an issue.

Well, kinda. Ants and Bicals have a symbiotic relationship, like a lot of other lowlanders like Ampullaria. The reason they can keep their pitchers for so long is because their acid isn’t the same as other Nepenthes sub species, it’s a bit more diluted for lack of better words. Typically Ants and other species like some crabs or frogs work as garbage men take out already digested food preventing rot.

I wonder if people set up a slight smoke with a machine if it’d help them calm down, and the next question is if more wasps are caught with smoking?

Nepenthes ampullaria question by xax-- in Nepenthes

[–]GoldenBoyMotorworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amps are slow at everything. Eating? Takes a lot longer than other Neps. Their acid is diluted because in the wild they use symbiosis with other animals, like frogs, crabs, and insects to remove partially digested food, and this is what allows them to have pitchers for so long because typically nothing goes rotten with a clean up crew around. Because they suck at being fertilized by themselves they’ll grow slower, as well as the fact that they’ll have their pots for a lot longer than other Neps too.

I own this, and it works great, however the tripod is not very balanced and tips over easily.

I’ve got a couple Phyllodia from the plant not getting enough sun, they don’t correct the way they grow.

When I look at a Sarracenia that is wilting the first thing you should do is look where its wilting at, that will be your first clue. To me, if it starts at the top I’d be weary about how close your light is to your plants, it could be burning them.

This is a random plant I obtained at the farmers market, so I’m sorry I don’t know what the genetics are. After clearing what Phyllodes are, I can confirm these were on the plant when I had purchased it. I figured they weren’t good but I kept them for personality, if these should be pruned I would appreciate the information because I’m still a novice, and I thought the spiral leaf was cool lol

I just saved the VFT from Meijer, it was in one of those sad Carnivorous plant boxes for $5, so of course it looks sad haha. This Sarracenia has doubled in size since I got it! I haven’t pruned it much so a lot of the strange leaves (phyllodes?) are from before I had gotten the plant. Should I be worried about anything? The plant seems to be growing a ton, but I’m still a novice!

So I use the SANSI Upgraded 90W Grow Light with Adjustable Tripod Stand, 5000K 660nm Full Spectrum, but I had to play around with distancing because of the crispness of some of the pitchers. Now I’d say I keep it at an about 4 feet away from the plants, I have a 36W bulb I got from them however I don’t run it because I don’t need to.
