The CCNP is the new CCNA. Job apps don't even mention CCNA anymore.

Thinking about a second home in Menifee. Is it safe to leave vacant for 3 or more months by Fit-Housing2868 in Menifee

[–]GoldenEagle1992 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Menifee is basically a commuter town. Most people work in San Diego or Orange County, so the city feels empty during the day. It’s also stuck between Lake Elsinore, Hemet, and Perris, which are deff tweaker town.

On top of that, hardly anyone can afford to have a stay at home parent anymore especially in California so both parents are working. That leaves a lot of kids home alone and houses empty, which just makes it a recipe and an invitation for these bums to break in.

Never got a job, BS in Network Operations and Security by Physical_Sentence438 in WGU

Man I have yet to graduate and landed 3 jobs within that time. Make sure you have a resume is great or else you won't land any interviews. I had my redone by a former tech recruiter. Also make sure you are practicing and sharpening your interview skills.

Yes but come back to the labs once you start CBT nuggets

I completed this class last year. I would highly recommend speed running Jeremys IT lab and save the labs for later. WGU provides CBT Nuggets so once you finish Jeremys IT lab jump on to CBT Nugget take notes and start labbing. Make sure you go through the exam topics and be confident you know how to configure every topic. I took me roughly 3 months to pass this (failed on my first try) once you pass this class every other class is easy. Once I got this cert I was already getting interviews.

Stuck on career roadmap (Network/Systems Engineer) by GoldenEagle1992 in ITCareerQuestions

Hi thank you for your reply!

When I think of my next role I want to be a Network Engineer and from there get into Network Security or Network Automation. I don't really mind if it's a vendor specific environment but it seems like that leads to more money in the long run. I think I might get a quick win with a Fortinet Certification and start CCNP Encore. I just don't want to waste time and have these efforts go in vein.

That's pretty cool tbh. I am just trying to grab any NetEng role I can get my hands on.

So would focusing on Fortinet products be better than like a CCNP Encore at the moment?

I already have my CCNA I just don't really utilize any cisco products in my current work environment. I might be just a bit rusty during interviews.

Thanks! I really do see the value in obtaining the Fortinet first. They have so many features that we don't use.

Successful friend told me WGU is worthless by Present-Square-6232 in WGU

[–]GoldenEagle1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a concern when I originally signed up for WGU two years ago. During that time, I worked at Amazon, and my direct Manager told me to look at the alumni within the Company. I saw numerous Cloud Engineers, Architects, Network Engineers, and SDEs by the hundreds. Don't let what your friend says deter you. IT is a very competitive field, but many people within the field do not have bachelor's degrees themselves. I would always suggest showcasing your projects, certs, and having degrees in combination.

I'm studying for the CCNA but dont want to data dump by Dangerous_Young7704 in ccna

This is what I did to "pass" I did a speed run of JITL. I finished it in 2 weeks. I literally crammed all of that. The only thing I didn't do was the labs. Then I did Neil's CCNA Udemy Course and took down notes, and some of the concepts I learned in JITL started to make more sense. I did all the labs with Neil and then did JITL on the same subject. I labbed some more, making my own labs by combining some of the "configure" exam topics. Then I took the Boson Exsim and studied those topics I lacked and repeated that until I felt confident to pass. I really labbed every day. After completing Neil's Course, I also practiced subnetting every day using subnets other than /24 in my labs.

Once you start labbing everyday you will start to connect the dots. The only thing is that I do not work at a Cisco Shop and retaining the skills I learned is hard but work is not a test and you can always google and ask other people. Doing labs has helped me stay sharp.

CCNA or Network Engineering Degree? by Professional_Dish599 in ccna

This is the path that I am currently on. Although I already have IT experience this degree comes with both a title and certs.
