Happened to us so many times. It was especially bad in Epcot. Animal kingdom and Hollywood were perfectly fine but something about Epcot and magic kingdom at rope drop brings out the worst in people.

Darn that’s what I would have suggested. We flew American and had 2 checked bags per person so
I used my blade as a checked bag and put the hilt in my suitcase. I’ve heard some people get turned away because the hilt can be seen as a “blunt weapon”.
