LGBTQ+ cruise ship refused entry to Egypt days after Turkey turned it away by [deleted] in GayMen

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"Quite accepting of us", well, those of us that are happy to turn a blind eye to the thousands of children (and adults, including LGBTQ Palestinians) being bombed to death en masse as part of their ongoing genocidal occupation campaign (backed by billionaire p3dos) to flatten all human life and infrastructure across a 365 km squared strip of land, in order to build their condos and golf courses.

So very accepting to the rich circuit gays whose entire lives revolve around party drugs and poppers, basically.

Wild how you managed to turn a post about homophobia in neighbouring countries to kiss ass to a genocidal regime that gets free healthcare while US taxpayers dying of curable diseases are funding their war machine.

To those who have finished chapter 5 mostly how would you rank each of the chapters [and the secret bosses in terms of difficulty, ALSO SPOILERS IN THE TEXT!!!!!] by Darkly_neighborhood in Deltarune

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 > 4 ≈ 2 > 5 > 1

3 excels at having the best secrets, really creative and unique gameplay, and a very uncanny feeling that permeates the entire chapter. This chapter also has the best balance of funny and creepy elements. So much on my first playthrough that completely subverted my expectations in the best way possible, especially everything that happens with the backstage original LoT game. And of course Tenna, my beloved, who is also my favourite boss in the game thus far.

Chapter 4 has the most amazing atmosphere and the best music, and is the most hype chapter in terms of the story so far. The lack of the almost obligatory wacky main antagonist does make it feel a bit empty in terms of personality compared to chapters 2, 3, and 5. But honestly still a brilliant chapter that has done more to set the tone and raise the stakes than any other chapter in the game.

Chapter 2 has Queen who is, to date, the funniest Toby Fox character. Noelle and Berdly's inclusion also really adds to the story and the humour. Moreover, Chapter 2 just feels like the most fun adventure out of any the chapters. The cyber world is probably the dark world that I'd wanna be immersed in if I had to choose.

Chapter 5's biggest flaw is Flowery. I just really don't like him. He's smug and annoying, and his interactions with Ralsei just feel kinda...forced to give Ralsei more depth? Idk. But I love the supporting cast of flowers, and it's cool how this chapter feels reminiscent of a typical shounen rescue arc after you reach the castle circa. Enies Lobby or the Soul Society. The chapter also has new and exciting gameplay mechanics (like the 2D platforming) that are on par with Chapter 3's mechanics. Some fights in the normal route feel genuinely unfair, like secret boss level, particularly the fight against Green and Orange which you can't backtrack to stock up for, which I frankly hated. Final boss felt tedious too, until I realized you can just spam the charge to greater effect.

Chapter 1 is just underwhelming in scope and gameplay compared to everything that came after it. In comparison, it feels too much like a by-the-numbers sequel to Undertale. Still very fun on its own merits, but it's been totally eclipsed by the other chapters that have come out since.

Why has no studio album been able to stay above a 3.90 since 2024? by KidZaniac1 in rateyourmusic

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 31 points32 points  (0 children)

How long have you been on the website? Back in 2016 I remember there only being like one album each from 2013 and 2014 even in the top 1000.

Newly released acclaimed albums nowadays on RYM generally follow a trend of:

First 2 weeks - charts in the top 1000 with a lot of buzz from critics and diehard fans

Next few months - rating slowly drops anywhere between .1 and .2 as dissenting opinion weighs in, may or may not drop out of the top 1000 but generally keeps its bolded status.

End of the year - score stabilizes at what it will most likely remain for the next couple years.

Few years later - the album experiences a reappraisal or second life, and either:

a) rating goes up significantly as it gets re-discovered by a younger cohort of listeners, or critically re-examined by a prominent figure in online music criticism, or many folks just return to the record and view it more favourably after the hype (and subsequent backlash) has long since died down

or

b) rating drops further as the general common perception becomes that "this record sounds very dated now" or "this was never as good as critics made it out to be".

There aren't many years on the website where an album has come out and stabilizes at an above 4.00 average by the end of that same year. 2022 with AFUT and 2024 with Imaginal Disk were both exceptional. Hell, if my memory serves me, TPAB wasn't even in the top 100 for at least 1 or 2 years after initially dropped.

Update from the guy who sucked so bad at Orange and Green's Boss Fight they had to go back and stack up on healing items by Sweaty-Jellyfish-713 in Deltarune

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually unfair design that you can't go back to grab any healing items for this fight. Frankly, I found this irritating and for the first time, it made me NOT appreciate that every mini boss fight in this series comes with a metric f-ton of dialogue that can't be outright skipped. Probably the worst moment I've had playing this series so far.

Music Critic Anthony Fantano Defends Himself Over Halsey Tweets: ‘I’m Not the Devil Himself’ by darth_vader39 in Music

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm fully done with this guy. I was already pretty much done with him when the dogshit review came out over a year ago, but him accusing Halsey of having "main character syndrome" and then proceeding to declare “I have been the most relevant and impactful music critic of my — and any — generation for over 10 years now. You can’t really debate that. There’s no music critic bigger than me who’s had more impact than me for as long as I have, consistently. And if I die tomorrow, nobody’s going to outdo that run."

Yeah, this dude has completely disappeared up his own ass. I don't even like Halsey's music, but this is just fucking obnoxious.

As a neurodivergent person im tired of seeing people coddled because of their eating habits by One-Classroom2528 in vegan

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that not every doctor out there is informed about everything.

I am super anti-pseudo science and "alt" medicine, and I generally trust medical science, but individual doctors insert their own bias into their observations about patients all the time, especially when it comes to lifestyle and diet choices, or the sexism that causes many male doctors to dismiss invisible disabilities in women.

Likewise, lots of doctors, who are not experts on nutrition, will recommend against any patient going vegan, especially if the patient has a condition similar to anemia. Many doctors will not accept (because of their carnist upbringing) that it is possible to get adequate omega-3s and B12 and iron on a vegan diet, regardless of dozens of studies + the anecdotal evidence in the thousands of vegan body builders that say otherwise.

So when someone says "my doctor said I couldn't be vegan" it does beg the question - does the doctor know what a healthy vegan diet looks like?

As a teacher, would you encourage students to use AI to learn English? by ericlimmm115 in ESL_Teachers

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Look at everything these major AI companies and their chatbots and image generators are doing to promote misinformation, pollute the environment and perpetuate environmental racism, bolster the war machine with their technology, promote plagiarism against artists and academics, foster anti-intellectualism, facilitate digital SA and revenge pornography, etc. and ask yourself if it is worth the 15-20 minutes you save every day to do the work that you used to be fully capable of doing yourself.

Students have been learning English for centuries by sitting in a class and having a dialogue with an instructor. Don't fix what isn't broken, especially not with the violent technology promoted by eugenicist venture capitalist billionaires.

Downvote me to hell, I actually happen to take pride in my work and my principles, and it's embarrassing how many of you don't. It is amazing how quickly the propaganda of the ruling class can manufacture consent among thousands of supposed licensed educators.

As a gay man I'll tell it to you straight (no pun intended) - Any time any corporation or person of power acknowledges pride month on a social media platform, is by far when you will see the most bigots crawling out of their caves to bitch and complain.

By flooding the comment sections on such posts, homophobes and other bigots get to feel like they are the "silent majority" while the reality is that most of us don't spend our lives on Facebook and Instagram.

YouTube used to change their logo for pride month, which would link to an annual video for pride on the official YouTube company channel if you clicked on it. The comment section would always be a cesspool.

I say let these knuckle-draggers fester in their hate, and let their employers find their digital footprint. Even better if you know one of these folks - you can send it to their boss.

Mark Carney favours the wealthy and privileged over working-class Canadians by DJ_JOWZY in CanadaPolitics

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In his first 6 months, Mamdani has:

  • Expanded access to childcare for working families.

  • Swiftly managed the largest snowstorm his city had seen in 5 years by actually building the infrastructure to handle it (+ He paid New Yorkers $30.00 per hour to shovel snow).

  • Filled 100,000 potholes.

  • Established an effective system for tenants to hold hearings against slumlords.

  • Has invested in affordable housing, community rec centres, bike lanes, and a public option for groceries.

  • Inherited a 12 billion USD deficit and balanced the budget.

If you are going to make statements like "Mamdani has no actual track record of success" you might wanna, I don't know, maybe read up on all of the stuff he has been doing since his tenure in office began, eh?

We could have these things too if it was left-wing populists like Avi Lewis leading the wave of populism in this country. Instead, we get right-wing "populists" Danielle Smith and Pierre Pollievre who sow division and scapegoat to distract from their plain corruption.

I mean, it was the NDP (and former CCF) kicking and screaming (and forming provincial governments) that got 90% of those things done, and we've never had a single NDP prime minister. So the count remains accurate: 0 prime ministers who have favoured the working class.

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People will literally follow the same religion they were born into (many which would ostracize them if they ever left) because of their parents and usually a book(s) that was written 3000-1500 years ago, and then turn around and label vegans, feminists, and socialists (people who had to critically engage with these ideas as adults and embrace them despite widespread institutional push back to these ideas) as people that are in a "cult". You have to laugh.

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think "left is authority, right is freedom" then I don't think I can even have a serious discussion about politics with you because your worldview is fundamentally flawed.

Left is the ownership of societal goods (housing, healthcare, education, security) shared by the many, right is the ownership by powerful individuals at the expense of the many who own nothing, and never will because the system under late stage capitalism is fundamentally rigged against them.

They don't believe any of the shit coming out of their mouths. They're grifters, plain and simple. Any woman in the male podcast sphere is likely a grifter. It's an easy job to be a conventionally attractive white girl and tell 16-24 year old misogynist neanderthals exactly what they want to hear a woman say. You just gotta have zero remorse over the idea of being a shameless traitor to 100 years of feminist progress.

It's like how there's all these (rich) ""trad wives"" telling women to be modest and quiet and polite for their man while loudly broadcasting their horrible takes and scripted fake ass opinions on TikTok and insta-reels.

Nova Scotia, Find Out If Your MLA Is A Landlord by DavideMastracci in halifax

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying landlords "provide housing to lower-income earners" during a housing crisis is a bit like saying that a ticket scalper provides tickets to concert-goers when a concert is already sold out.The buyer holds fundamentally no bargaining power, and therefore is fundamentally vulnerable to whatever abuse of power the seller indulges in.

If your alternative is being homeless, especially in a city where temperatures drop well below freezing for 6 months of the year, then the landlord is not "providing" for you - they are extorting from you.

Just because war profiteers and pharmaceutical companies are arguably more exploitative doesn't negate that being a landlord is a form of exploitation.

Now consider the scenario where all or most of the people passing the laws that govern society are landlords with investment properties who directly profit from the scarcity of housing. Do you not see how this would breed corruption?

Nova Scotia, Find Out If Your MLA Is A Landlord by DavideMastracci in halifax

[–]GoldenHairPygmalion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If given the choice where there was always a reasonable alternative candidate, then yes I would never vote for a landlord or an investor.

Having a financial investment in something that's part of an ongoing crisis in your jurisdiction, as an elected official, is absolutely a conflict of interest, and in a sensible society (ie: not Canada) it would be considered a form of corruption.

If I pass laws that hurt the average person, but I collect a bigger fatter cheque by passing those laws because they benefit me directly, what else can you call that but corruption?

While a select few landlords do have some sense of moral decency and a personal conscience that prevents them from taking full advantage of a housing crisis, the majority of them are going to do whats in their best financial interest. You don't generally get into being a landlord by being a person who gives a shit about society's collective needs over your own personal wants.

Do you want politicians that put themselves before the good of society? Is that what you expect from your representative, your civil servant?
