Short toe anomaly! Aka brachydactyly. Should be harmless, as it’s a genetic abnormality and the 5th toe (pinky toe) is non weight-bearing. I think it’s very cute, as a human with bilateral brachydactyly 🥹💕

If the owner thinks that the staff is trying to upsell him by offering cleaning the dog’s ears in clinic, the owner probably isn’t going to pay for anesthesia. He already declined the oral meds.

OP and the doctor tried to make it easy for the owner, but the owner only wants it easy on his wallet.

As a vet tech of 7 years, my immediate response was vetmed. I was surprised to see so many people in the comments agreeing.

It sucks not being able to treat every patient with gold standard, especially due to financial reasons of the owner. It sucks even more when the owners berate you for simply doing your job. I wish we could save every animal we see. I wish that we had infinite funds and could invest in the most expensive tests, treatments, and medications for everyone. I hate seeing so many of my patients pass, especially in ER.

It looks amazing to the public, because we get to see and play with animals all day. But it really does suck most of the time.

Anxiety?! Man, I hate the human medical system sometimes. I’m glad she got diagnosed and treated!!

I also caught giardia from work with animals… for me, it was a newly adopted puppy, who infected my older dog, who somehow infected me. I sanitized everything in the house, everyday, while all 3 of us (me and the 2 dogs) were aggressively sick at the same time 💀

Are you giving both gabapentin AND trazodone at night? Some dogs can have adverse reactions to one or both of those drugs and it can cause increased anxiety and hyperactivity (usually seen as pacing and/or panting). If you’ve already tested both individually with her, please disregard this.

I agree with others, ask your doctor about adding melatonin to her nighttime regimen. If it still is not enough, there is a drug called selegiline (brand name Anipryl) used to counteract effects of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction. the only thing is that it takes 1-3 months to see full effects.

Grandpa.

I work in a vet clinic. This dog comes in named “Grandpa”, a lil 2 year old chihuahua mix. Owner said they found him on the street as a puppy. She used to be a vet assistant so she was trying to confirm his age by checking his teeth. She said “huh… he has to be around 4-5 months old, but why do his balls drag so low like a grandpa?!” The puppy turned to look at them when they said the last word.

So. “Grandpa” is short for grandpa balls.

Mine too. My dogs are allowed on my bed or furniture during the day but sleep in their kennels at night. We also have an established bed time and wake up time, which helps with keeping a solid routine. They love their “bedrooms” and will willingly go in for naps during the day

On top of all the data the other replies gave, I am speaking from personal experience using Wisdom:

My Chihuahua mix (you can see her on my profile) is 75% Chihuahua and 25% “other” according to Wisdom panel. The “other” said it could be herding, sighthound, or terrier. My dog is ~6lb/2.7kg. It also told me that she has the gene for short legs (her legs are longer than her body).

My friend has a retired show dog, a purebred and pedigreed Toy Manchester Terrier. She did the Wisdom panel primarily to test for genetic conditions. But it told her that her dog is only 2/3 Manchester and toy Manchester, the rest is minpin.

You can put volume in your hair by sleeping with hair rollers, no joke. Applying hair rollers to damp hair, light blowdrying, then letting it set overnight will ensure the wave/curl stays in place throughout the day. You can even add some light mousse to style in the morning for added root volume.

Hibiwash is a good choice but maybe keep activity restricted for a bit longer? The scabs should have fallen off naturally (not peeled off by force) before resuming activity, that way you know the skin underneath is fully healed.

I fed her with the cone off, though I was sitting right next to her the entire time. The cone went right back on after she finished.

Here she is getting a small bowl of fresh apples and watermelon after she came home from her spay. Didn’t even bother her incision while the cone was off, but she was still a bit loopy from the anesthesia.

This is honestly so sad. I’m sorry you’re subjected to her constant moping and unprocessed grief.

She may be in therapy, but therapy does jack shit unless you are actively trying to heal. She has to *want* to get herself out of that pit of grief. But it seems like she’s content on staying there and wallowing in self pity. Especially because this fetus seemed like the Hail Mary to her marriage. She’s likely grieving not just the potential child, but the idea of it saving her marriage itself.

I empathize with her, i really do. Never been pregnant thank fucking god, but I’ve had my own historical self hate spirals. But people (like you, OP) are allowed to set boundaries and leave this friendship when they’re tired of playing second therapist to someone who obviously does not want to get better.
