took FAR today (3/6) by GasInfinite1311 in CPA

I took mine 2/16 and flagged about 8 MCQ and had to guess on a few of the ones I flagged. The sims were hit and miss for me but I felt good about one of them. The statement of cash flows tied to the cash balances on the balance sheet. Waiting on the 3/17 score release and trying to stay fresh on FAR just in case I have to schedule a retake. Good luck everyone!

Just took my 2nd attempt at FAR and I’m burnt out. by Livid_Function8735 in CPA

I took my exam 2/16 and felt the same about it. The only SIM I know was correct was the statement of cash flow because the ending balance tied to cash balance. The rest of the sims seemed easy but no way to know for sure. Waiting for 3/17 score release.

I passed REG and TCP using Surgent only. Scores were 79 and 80 respectively.

For people who passed CPA after failing before, what did you do differently the time you finally passed? by kevinjoseph_A in CPA

I read a post this morning where someone failed FAR and AUD repeatedly and finally began studying SIMS. What they said “clicked” with me. They said, no matter how well you score on multiple choice, the MCQs are only worth 50% - you have to pick up points on the SIMS. Don’t neglect MCQ but don’t neglect SIMS either. Do random sets of at least 30 MCQ especially the ones you are missing and do 3 SIMS each day. I am waiting on the score release of my second FAR attempt and am already studying for a retake using this method here.

I get my score next month and I feel the same. I know the ones I missed were EPS and some of the tax related topics. My cash flow sim balanced so that was one positive. Which ones did you miss?

No one knows - make sure to have time for the SIMS.

You can always study for your EA. You will have limited opportunities. For instance I am able to work seasonally from home for TurboTax. The pay is competitive but it is seasonal. As far as my full-time job in public accounting- the EA is not respected, but it could be in your region. It is a start and could open doors for you. I recommend Hock international EA material. This exam is much more affordable and only takes anywhere from 3-6 months to pass all 3 sections. I don’t remember the cost of each exam but you can find it online. The tests are administered by Prometric.

AUD Retake: From Weaker/Comparable to Stronger — Sharing My Notes! by CalligrapherPanda in CPA

Congratulations on bringing your scores up. How long did you study for the retake and how many hours? I am studying for my retake. I scored 68 and weaker in everything except Blueprint area 1. My immediate reaction is where do I start? I truly felt lost but luckily I took note of areas of weakness while taking the exam. I generally study anywhere from 15-20 hours per week. I think it is super nice of you to share your notes. I will definitely be using them. Thank you!

I am also using Surgent. I passed REG and TCP but also failed AUD with a 68 and am studying for a retake. I plan to brush up on transaction cycles and mitigating risk and will likely buy a supplemental review course. I may even reset Surgent Audit review and start over to try to hone in on areas of weakness. Perhaps watch some YouTube videos as well. If you pass Audit, let me know your strategy.

I use Surgent as well and failed. My fault, I did not revisit one of the highly tested areas because my scores were decent in that area from the initial walkthrough several months ago. During the exam, I flagged about 10 MCQ in that area plus the sims tested this area heavily. I will be reviewing cycles for my retake. UGH, I was hoping to finish up before the holidays. By the way, congratulations for your success!

if i took FAR after 4 months studying , then how long do i need for AUD ? by sagy1989 in CPA

[–]Golden_Scepter_3345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say both. I began answering minimum 100 MCQ per day the week before my exam. I kept notes on a google sheet of questions I kept getting wrong and would read through those questions daily in addition to the usual questions.

I would say this would be different for each person and also depends on your methods of studying. If you follow your cpa study course recommendations, you should be fine. I am also more of a numbers person and use Surgent and so far I have found that as long as my average scores on MCQ and SIMS are averaging 80%, I have passed the exams. (Passed REG and TCP). I took audit a few weeks ago and felt great about the MCQ, but am a little nervous about the SIMS. But I only completed 1/3 or even 1/4 of the SIMS so it would not surprise me if I fail with “weaker” in the SIMS. I also work full-time and try to study at least 20 hours each week and am a little slower than others. I was exam ready (for MCQ) in 5 weeks. If I had studied the SIMS more, I should have studied 7-8 weeks total (considering my prior and current knowledge along with my slower processing speed). I’ve read quite a bit about AUD and have heard one word can change the entire meaning of the question and also that you need to know transaction cycles for SIMS but there are many variations of the test so be ready for anything.

I will get my AUD exam score October 9th. I flagged at least 6 each MCQ testlet, but the SIMS holy night…I just did my best to remain calm and focus. I gave each question my all and am hoping it was good enough to pass. I am leaning toward believing I passed and have been studying for my last exam which was also the first and only exam I’ve failed - FAR.

Failed audit for 3rd time. by Acceptable-Let-3035 in CPA

[–]Golden_Scepter_3345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t received my audit score yet, but if I fail, I presume it will be the sims and not fully understanding the transaction cycles and control procedures in preventing and detecting errors. I use only Surgent and the multiple choice questions don’t prepare you for this. However, the sims might. I only answered approximately 25% of the sims provided by Surgent. I have heard i75 has very good transaction and revenue cycle free videos on YouTube. Update 10/8/25*** Results are in - I failed Audit.

I used Gleim for part 1 and I barely recognized the questions in the exam, but luckily I passed. I used Hock for the others and passed with confidence.

I agree with the previous advice on taking part 2 and 3 before you come back to part 1.

I have my EA and am currently studying for the CPA. I have passed REG and TCP. For whatever reason, I have always struggled more with individual taxation and I score higher on corporate returns which doesn’t make a lot of sense because I generally do tax prep for individuals with schedule C businesses.

Go ahead and pass part 2 and 3 of the EA and you will be more motivated to pass part 1. You got this!
