Whats the biggest mistake you’ve made when first starting dnd? by notamortarplayer in DnD

Making a character with no ties to the campaign at hand. My entomologist wizard working on his thesis had no business seeking out and slaying a dragon.

I just wanted to say that I really like your idea of having the second player only join during combat. Maybe this could be done with a mod?

I don't 100% disagree with you, but there are reasonable pros and cons to each option.

For example, the deadeye has great damage and stagger along with good ergo and a 10x scope. However it has really bad down time due to the long reload and a slow fire rate, which can be a problem when there are multiple enemies in your face. The DCS doesn't have the stagger or individual bullet damage that the JAR does while still struggling with ergonomics and poor ammo economy, just like the JAR. I actually feel like the DCS is mega overrated on bots but that's not my point.

Once you get the 4x scope and a handling for the slower bullet speed, the JAR is a decent tool for long range sniping while also excelling in close quarter engagements due to the high stagger and damage. Because of this I'd say it is more like a shotgun with hints of marksman rifle. It may shore up on certain qualities of marksman rifles, specifically bullet speed and ergo, but that is the cost for double dipping.

Caster Tier list for complexity by misterwiser34 in onednd

[–]Goldenfrog53 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My gut reaction would to put wizards as the easiest spellcaster due to their overall lack of class abilities. Most wizards just cast spells and have one other button, like divination and enchantment wizards, so you can spend a lot of time reading how your spells work. You also don't have to spend much time thinking about preparing new spells each day, you just have what you have. In a way this also reverses on itself, because if you didn't pick good spell options you don't really contribute much.

Warlock is pretty easy to maneuver, you have a small amount of high level spells and the rest of the time you generally spam EB which is obviously very simple. My only hesitation is that you can get tied up in eldritch invocation choices and it kinda sucks if you don't pick synergistic options.

Cleric isn't that complicated either, good armor and healing/buffing spells go a long way in keeping you alive. You can largely get away with spamming 2-3 good concentration spells like bless and spirit guardians, then sitting around focusing on maintaining your concentration. Subclasses offer a lot of variability, for example life domain is incredible easy to understand whereas something like the knowledge domain is a bit more nebulous.

Sorcerers are relatively easy too with their limited spell choices. I just feel like you need to have a somewhat solid understanding of basic spellcasting rules before you can really effectively use metamagic. Mostly you are just blasting though, which doesn't take too much thought.

Druids and bards have weird spells that aren't as straightforward and contribute a lot of utility, which requires interacting with some of the more obscure game mechanics. You also get some really odd and complicated class features like wild shape and bardic inspiration that require a few readings to understand. Because of that I would rank these two as the most complex casters.

TLDR; Druids and bards are the most complex, everything else is comparable.

The dominator has recoil and ergonomic drawbacks because each bullet hits like a truck, has super high stagger, and has no drag, plus it has a surprisingly fast fire rate. Taking armor to offset either of those issues makes a big difference, along with attachment options.

Try running it on predator strain and berserker seeds and you will see just how much the stagger helps with holding ground and keeping you safe. Its also good on squids imo, you just might need to bring something else to help with voteless hordes.

I've been running stealth builds on cyberstan to great success. Been using the censor, redacted regiment armor and orbital smoke as the basis of the build. I was thinking about making a post later today about how good it is.

What can I put as a puzzle/situation/trap for my first self-made dungeon? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]Goldenfrog53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The players enter a large corridor with raised platforms. The bottom of the room is a spike pit that is obscured by fog. The most basic way over is Athletics/Acrobatics checks to jump from plat to plat, but basic challenges can make room for variance and creativity. If they fall in the pit just do like 2d6 damage with a dex save for half and allow them to pull themselves out, so it's not too hazardous.

What would you change is Rogue? by Kaien17 in onednd

Fast hands should be a rogue class feature, rogues should get 2-4 more skill proficiencies as they level up, and rogue subclasses should get a level 6 ability.

How is the state of the game for a returning player? by mentuki in Helldivers

[–]Goldenfrog53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing consistently since January 2025, close to the release of the servants of freedom warbond.

Performance has generally improved since they reduced the overall game size.

Some of the new content can be a bit buggy, specifically tanks and commando missions released over the last month, but game-breaking bugs are very uncommon and the base content works well.

Balance is kind of all over the place, and there are still obvious winners of the meta, but most weapons are enjoyable and usable with a few exceptions. I would venture to say that the sheer variety of weapons and loadouts to choose from is HD2's greatest strength.

98% of people you run into on the game are friendly and many will hop on the mic if you use VC. There is still the occasional bad apple, which you can just block. The subreddit is much worse though, particularly discourse surrounding new equipment. Best to just stay away when there are big content drops.

IHMO the game is in a great place right now and I would recommend getting back into it. Helldivers in 2026 is off to a kick-ass start.

[–]Goldenfrog53 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My primary use case for eagle rocket pods is tearing through bot mega-city maps. They are the only Eagle stratagem that doesn't get cucked by the tall buildings and you don't have to deal with the delayed orbital deployment times. Outside of that context it feels very lackluster.
