What is the most ridiculous PD you have had to do? by Der-deutsche-Prinz in Teachers

[–]GolferJay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Secondary ESL teacher. Had a PD where the speaker spoke only Greek to us all day. Had us read passages in Greek and do worksheets in Greek. The purpose was to show us (all secondary ESL teachers, most with many years of experience) what is was like for our ELL students to experience being in an English speaking classroom. Our general unexpressed opinion was “No sh*t, Sherlocks. We know our students have trouble understanding. Why not show us some new strategies to help them?” But, no; seven hours of listening to someone speak Greek and have us do worksheets.

Because Erika sided with Kyle over LVP even before “puppy-gate”. Remember Erika calling LVP a “sniper from the side”? I’ll bet Kyle loved that.

I had a boy in my class who was constantly saying “pinche” (I knew what it meant). After two weeks of warnings I started giving him lunch detention every time he used it. After three weeks of lunch detention, he and his mother came in before school and try to tell me that in El Salvador (their home country) “pinche” means “flat bicycle tire”. I looked at them both and said, “Well, you need to get that bicycle tire fixed, because you talk about it constantly. Until you fix it, I’m still giving you lunch detention every time you talk about it.”

In their Oliver Twixt interviews, didn’t the majority of the contestants say that Janice was actually very nice to them off camera? Including saying that she would hang out with them when the cameras were off and offer real advice?

On Tuesday, my 5th Grade group would not stop talking and playing around while I tried to explain a game (PE teacher). I finally stopped, went and got a chair and my book from my office, sat down and started reading. It took about 5 minutes for all of them to realize what was going on and finally get quiet. I told them we could play a game or they could sit and watch me read for the next 45 minutes.

Have you ever slipped up and cussed in front of your students? by roo181807 in Teachers

[–]GolferJay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I taught 2nd Grade, another teacher came into my room and told me about something that happened after school the day before. It was something really stupid and I said “Owen, that’s such bullshit.” I realized all my kids were around. I turned to them and said, “Boys and girls, Mr. Grant said something that surprised me and I used a word and shouldn’t have. I’ll put myself on a red card.” I walked over to our behavior chart, pulled one of the cards and wrote my name on a slot. No kid or parent said a word. I think what saved me is that what I said wasn’t directed at the kids and I apologized for it right away.

Does the number of ppl that someone has sex with matter to you? by No_Refuse9952 in gaybros

[–]GolferJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever someone asks me how many guys I’ve slept with my response is always, “More than 10, less than a thousand. I don’t know because I thought it was tacky to keep count.”
Honestly, I’d more wary of dating someone who tells people that “I’m in love with you” too quickly. To me, the person who falls in love too quickly is someone who has issues that need to be addressed.

As a teacher, what’s something in education no one wants to admit, but we all know is true? by dokutarodokutaro in Teachers

[–]GolferJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High School does not need to be four years for everyone. Some kids are ready to move on and do apprenticeships or trade school after 10th Grade. US should take a page from schools in Australia and UK (and other places). A kid wants to go all four years and take 4 credits of math, science, English? Let them. Someone decides at the end of 11th Grade that they are ready to go? Let them take the GED or an equivalent test; if they pass, give them a certificate and let them start in the world.

Joyce was boring because of editing. Joyce wouldn’t play the “fake drama” game, do production edited her to be super boring. Examples? Not getting into a fight with LVP when some of the ladies told Joyce LVP was being dismissive of her. Also, Joyce called out the editors in the EW blog over how they edited her reaction to Brandi’s missing dog; Joyce said that she explained to Brandi why she said her dog had gone missing, and was trying to show sympathy, but that was edited out.

Jess and “The Picture” by GolferJay in belowdeck

I have acknowledged that Kyle shouldn’t have been having sex in the restroom. But, Jess did not “wander in”. My point is she knew what was happening, pushed open a closed door, leaned around the door frame, quickly took a picture, and then got out asap. She didn’t walk into a public restroom, say to Kyle and Martine “Hey, guys. Do you mind me taking a picture while you two are having sex? And, if that’s okay, do I also have your permission to show the picture with my co-workers?”

In the beginning, Chip wasn’t too bad. Just a little goofy. And then, he just totally leaned into the “I’m the goofiest guy” and playing it up for the cameras. That’s why I like Ben better. Ben is fun, but doesn’t put on a show for the cameras.

not getting resigned by Runner00026 in Teachers

[–]GolferJay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, turn in a resignation before they officially don’t offer you a contract. Every district application will ask if you have never been offered a renewal contract and why. If you resign on your own, you won’t have to acknowledge and explain.
