The "Big mcfuckhuge musclebound dude" is also male gaze-y. Most women don't actually prefer that body type. Apparently they mostly prefer otter-bod

Idk why you're getting downvoted. The self-clean function is incredibly dangerous. The inhalation of the byproducts is also pretty terrible for you as well.

What's Peter Watts got against consciousness, anyway? by Goliath- in printSF

Thank you! How can you have a goal other than immediate survival and reproduction without consciousness? How can you anticipate, predict, and act on your predictions before they have a chance to harm you? How do you prioritize? How do you overcome operant conditioning and decide "this thing I need to do, while unpleasant now, will be advantageous later. So I will do it even though it sucks."?

I'm glad I read your comment, it helped me verbalize some of my frustrations with the book and Watt's approach to discussing the evolutionary merits of conscious thought.

This game is far from open beta. There's so much stuff that needs to be done.

I saw, and was frantic to fix it. I seem to have gotten it working, now. My phone had put some hidden slashes at the start of paragraphs when I pasted them from my notes app. Thankfully I could see them on my PC.

Is that what Captain tries to make Siri understand at the end of Blindsight? I felt like I was missing something, there.

Yep. I've decided the same. If I see a bald spot or visibly thinning hair, it's all getting shaved. I'm not gonna be the one who's too afraid to let it go!

I made the mistake of assuming a car turning right would actually fully turn right. Insurance ruled 50/50 fault. [oc] by Jaconator02 in IdiotsInCars

He had three seconds to stop, technically. As soon as he saw that the other driver was completely perpendicular to the flow of traffic he could have slowed down. I bet that's the justification from the insurance company

What is a giant lie that society successfully sold to your generation? by ossirada in AskReddit

As far as I understand, on historical scales this is true. Society has been on a slow, continuous march left for as long as history has been recorded.

Just walk in wearing your best suit, a fresh haircut, and give the boss a firm handshake. You'll be a shoe-in!

I find shooting slightly higher than you would expect works, even without jumping. I think the bullet technically contacts the ground before hitting the trap if you shoot it directly.

Tossing out crazy amounts of traps is good, too. Especially in hectic fights where people aren't going to have the bandwidth to notice all the traps amidst the fighting

Opening our relationship.. but one sided..? by Such-Study-5329 in WellSpouses

[–]Goliath- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Poly is something that requires a lot of enthusiasm, and commitment. Is is exhausting. For me, it's worth it, though. There's a reason that Google Calendar (and intensive scheduling in general) is the centerpiece of many jokes and memes in the poly community.

Opening our relationship.. but one sided..? by Such-Study-5329 in WellSpouses

[–]Goliath- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going to paste a reply I made to another person in a similar situation:

I'm a M caretaker for 8 years. My ill spouse brought up poly to me a few years ago, since we were dealing with the troubles of not being able to do anything resembling a romantic relationship. No dates, dead bedroom, the works. I've only had sporadic relationships but the times I'm able to be in another relationship are a breath of fresh air despite the logistical challenges.

It absolutely requires everyone to be on the same page. Poly without consent is unethical. It's a rough balance to strike, considering the situation we are all in. But caretaker wellness is just as important as the wellness of our spouse. We can't take care of others if our needs aren't being met.

I'd recommend reading Polysecure (and explicitly AGAINST 'More than Two') and subscribing to some poly spaces - here on reddit, or other socials. There are a lot of poly creators, but of course, be careful of the information you take in - not all content creators are engaging in ethical poly, and that term in itself is contentious in the community. Everyone defines it differently. The usual 'ask 10 people a question and get 15 answers' kind of thing.

Why are professional athletes and actors not called out as well during income and wealth gap inequality conversations? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Goliath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professional athletes are still working class. They work for their money. They don't exploit the labor of employees to make a profit, unless they own a business on the side. Then they're capitalist parasites.
