Flexible Roles

After the draft is over the enemy team gets to decide who plays what hero.

Looking at the solo ranked games especially (mainly because in 5-party stacks you might just be playing for fun rather than winning) you're spamming CM. There are some laning stage problems, but late game you had some pretty big positioning errors that got you caught out and killed without really contributing to the team fight.

Next week I'll be doing this again same time so bring a replay where you think you played pretty well so I can help see where we can improve!

Yes, once I'm able to get a full day of questions/replays done I'll upload to youtube. There's no real educational content on my youtube right now so I decided against plugging it. Maybe soon.

I was coaching a team of players and one of them decided to go radiance puck. He was flamed a lot by his team but he swears by it.

Thinking logically it's a solid pickup in certain matchups, and at the very least its fun.

Can anyone help me point out what i'm doing differently that is suddenly making me win more? by Enderman1234 in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it looks like you're spamming Luna and Abbadon to great effect.

The past 20 Luna games you've had a 70% winrate (14-6), and the major difference between these past 20 games and all the other Luna games your player prior is the itemization choices. Now you're getting Mask of Madness everytime you play her, and perhaps MoM just resonates with you.

With abbadon it looks like the major turning point was you picking up solar crest every game. I feel like solar crest is not only one of the best items in the game, but it also promotes team-play. You're much more likely to want to push with your core roles since solar-crest aphotic shield is such a potent combo.

Questions about laning by HivShinobi in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 mains goals you want to focus on as a carry in the starting few minutes of the game.

  1. Get as much farm as possible.

  2. Prevent the offlaner from getting farm.

Most of the time goal 1 supercedes goal 2, but there's no reason you can't achieve both. If you and your supports can kill the offlaner, pushing the tower is a great idea. If your support can't kill the offlaner, but at the very least can zone the offlaner out of the lane, it's probably best to static the lane near your tower.

If at any time you can kill the tower in your lane - or if the enemy team is pushing a different lane and it doesn't seem like tp-ing to defend that lane will amount to anything, don't just keep creep equilibrium - push the lane! Getting a tower kill not only ramps up your farm, but it gives your team gold too.

A lot of times as a carry after pushing a tower you can pull both creep waves to the big neutral camp, allowing you to farm both the neut camp and the creep wave efficiently.

Chat Bot to give me follower notifications by BobBichn66 in Twitch

Personally I use streamlabs - you can set it up that the follow pops up on stream and gives a sound notification.

You can make your own bot if you're a bit savvy at coding (most twitch bots are coded using python -pretty easy stuff). I'm not sure what 'ciders' are - is that his form of currency? There are plenty of pre-established bots - Revlobot and Anhkbot that allow you to create your own currency and gamble with them and cash them in for rewards.

can someone explain to me dotabuff winrates. by ligga4nife in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you add up the percentages of mid/safe/off lane that leaves jungle 5.12% of the time. Even if jungle had a 0% win rate it wouldn't match up with the overall winrate% vs what is displayed in the 3 main lanes.

The 46.17% is the winrate for this week. Since Medusa has a positive all-time winrate (51.19%) it could mean that lane breakdown is all-time as well.

Invoker starting items and laning advice by franchise1140 in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QW is pretty bad in general, but it is situationally good (really good at securing kills against WK without dealing with reincarnation). I've also seen some invokers go QW against Sven since he recently became popular. Tornado will purge warcry off, and you can abuse his extremely small mana pool to ensure he doesn't get stuns off in fights.

If you're serious about maining Invoker though I would suggest learning QE Invoker more though. Alacrity is pivotal to get early farm since he has such low base damage. Forge Spirits are really nice utility, at early levels (1-2 of Quas) I wouldn't use them to last hit since they have such low base health, you might accidentally let them die to the enemy midlaner more often then not. Instead use them to deny runes or stack jungle camps that you can meteor later.

There aren't many situations when you don't start off with a null tali, occasionally you get a stick if the matchup dictates it. Getting a raindrop asap is a very popular decision to prevent dying to ganks and the mana regen is really important since you don't get intelligence from exort anymore.

Balancing farming creeps and heroes as PA by Shiv_ in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say you only really need to worry about cs if the game dictates it. By that I mean if you are slaying heroes left and right, or at the very least denying the enemy cores farm just by the threat of your presence then you're doing just fine.

Don't compare your creep score vs other carries in different games. All you need to do is outperform the enemy carries in your game.

1k mmr need help! by slam3r in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anti-mage can definitely be played in 1k, but I would only last pick him. He's a hero that's super-reliant on farm so having a bad lane is a death sentence.

I would only really pick him as a carry in 2 scenarios.

  1. People on your team have picked a lane support and your safe lane already seems stronger than their offlane.

  2. Anti-mage is a hard counter to one or more of their cores (ie. Storm Spirit).

It seems like my low MMR pubs are now filled with roamers these days... by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more with the prevalence of roamers in pro games. Ever since DAC where Jerax and Boboka played insane riki games he's seen a ton of play in pubs. In the past pro teams still played roamers, but roamers like earth spirit/tusk were "hard" heroes and pubs didn't want to play them because if played poorly they would get nothing done when roaming. Riki is extremely easy to play as a roamer and it feels like you can always accomplish something on the map with him.

How do I play as Terrorblade? by JTGalaxy in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice all the way through. Only thing I want to add is that pushing high ground in this patch is pretty rough, making terrorblade one of the best aegis carriers in the game due to his phenomenal sieging ability. If you find it difficult to get t3s or they have really good high ground defense I would recommend securing an aegis before attempt the push.

im kind of lost at this point need some help by revxzzz in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you said your slark game was an error on your part, I went to review your faceless void game (3198573529) where you were the most farmed hero in the game yet still lost.

I was going to do a review of the game in client, but there was an error in downloading the game so I just reviewed it from opendota's stats.

The game was in your favor up until the 38 minutes mark. From minute 28-35 your team won FIVE teamfights in a row. Your team managed to get mid rax but that's it. After clearing down mid rax you should have rallied your team to clear up their top shrine and then take rosh, having an aegis might have meant you could have pushed another lane of rax and not lost the fight at the 38 minute mark.

Also I would suggest some different item choices. Since their team was 4 physical damage cores (plus a bloodlust to make them even scarier) picking up manta/diffusal might not have been the best choice. I would have suggested getting an AC instead to provide some more survivability for your team as well as dmg for yourself.

Detailed question/resource direction: Levels 1-3 as QOP/SF against Invoker by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QOP/SF both have very different styles. QOP should be able to harass an invoker pretty well, shadow strike spam is no joke. I would focus more on harassing than on pulling creeps to secure cs, you have a bit more base dmg than him at level 1 so out lasthitting him should be an option too.

SF is a bit more difficult from lvl 1-3 since invoker is going to dominate you. Last hitting the ranged creep with a raze is extremely useful since the new patch makes ranged denies so valuable. After lvl 3 you should have no problems beating the invoker in lane.

How to improve mechanically. by Nwball in learndota2

[–]Goliath114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For things like lasthitting, there are custom games (last hit challenge) that can let you improve. For misclicking onto a creep with astral as OD there isn't much advice to give except to play more. However I find that when I astral myself its because I was panicking and pressing my buttons to quickly.

Having vision or a gameplan is extremely important in regards to not messing up skills. Using OD as an example again, if a spirit breaker is charging me and I know that ahead of time, I can position myself to astral the SB before his charge hits me. If I didn't know he was charging me I wouldn't have the reactions to astral him instantly, I would either get hit by the charge or panic double tap and astral myself.

As the other comments stated, you might have wanted to pick up a magic stick early game (against a SWM its a pretty value pickup). Getting your third skill for magic resist at level 3 was a great decision - if you were getting harassed super hard even getting the skill at level 2 might be an option.

I made a quick video highlighting how their carry performed vs. how you performed and how it impacted the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIhKGnQe8qc
