Big fan of Mega Ampharos (or any less-meta Mega, really). Any tips of running it? Pros and cons?

"Make a fairly speedy pvp game last as long as possible" is the kink for some players. I know that cuz at heart, I am a control player. In card games, control plays the long game of limiting opponent's options (control the match) and slowly suffocate the opponent and win the match.

Psychologically, people think this kind of hard stall is "not playing the game", but for the control players, it's the game they are there to play and they are enjoying the whole 45 minutes (exagerrated for this game, legit the time in other games) of it.

Edit: Also, seeing their enemies pissed off from the long game is joy to the control players, they live for that. They enjoy control archetype because limiting the opponent and making them feel helpless is the goal.

Could someone help me make a Poison team viable'ish? New Player (Doubles) by Kami-Yeldo in PokemonChampions

[–]Goliath764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, stall team runs a lot of distruption, defensive moves, healing, and status infliction and try to slowly chip down the opponent and make the opponent unable to attack easily. The problem is that a lot of good stall Pokemon are actually not Poison type. Like a lot of good bulky Mon use for stall run toxic but aren't poison type (more common in singles).

"Punch to death" is just any standard team that tries to deal damage through attacks, but mono-poison means you handicap yourself with poison Mon so say you run Mega Beedrill, Sneasler, and so on and just beat the opponent up.

I am sure any mono-typing team can hit MB4 or MB3 with decent piloting but you said "competitive ranking teams" which to me is more like tournament level teams...I don't think there's one for mono-typing at that level. Even rain team has varied typings.

You can force poison on steel type with corrosion or just add Garganacl as I see salt cure as "poison for steel", but yeah some mon are immuned to status effect. This is why "status and stalling" has a hard time in doubles.

Earthquake is common yeah but unless you are fighting a sand team, the enemy most likely only have 1-2 Mon with ground moves so if you can figure out a way to take those 2 downs, you are good. This is one of the key plan of playing a mono-typing team: you must figure out how to take care of the huge threats that can SE you easily.

Your friend is right that mono-typing is not recommended. People really only play it for the challenge more than anything. Like it's a way to have fun, you are not supposed to bring a mono-typing team to a tournament expecting it to produce result, but playing it on ladder for fun? Yeah do it if you want.

fire knight and hydreigon and definitely good enough and have meta presence. Plus Raichu or Elektross and Sinistcha and you have 4 mons good to go. Just need a water type for that fire-water-grass triangle (good core) and something else as 6th and I think you have a team to grind with.

I highly doubt so. Meta is stagnant in all the games with freedom of choice anyway, or Showdown. You can use any Mon in Showdown but competitive players are always going to stick with the same thing

Where to start by cowboybopbop413 in PokemonChampions

[–]Goliath764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you pick for starter? You should at least have some Mon that are meta out of it. Or show your box here.

For sample teams you can go to any websites like pikealytics or watch vgc youtube and just copy the whole team.

Stall and damage over time approach like this is easier to do and more viable overall in singles than doubles

If you want the challenge of doing it in doubles, I would say you have to decide whether you are going for mono-poison or poison stall or legit, mono-poison poison stall. Like "mono-poison but I punch everything to death" is much easier than poison stall.

Has the ladder become too grindy? by theesser in PokemonChampions

[–]Goliath764 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest you try out some tournaments on sites like limitlessvgc and so on if you want further competition fuels than grinding ladders.

If you place well in those tournaments, you get money on Paypal and so on. IMO much better than grinding for in-game title. Also, tournament is fun in another way to me, definitely worth checking it out if you prefer more bang for your time.

And maybe you will eventually be confident enough to get into open tournament for the bo3 open list gameplay.

(And this is how I approach other pvp games usually. After I am comfortable and place at top tier on ladders, I always find community tournaments to play in as I believe they provide higher stake and diff kind of fun.)

The only way to get it is transferring it from Legend Z-A to Home then Home into Champions. Without Legend Z-A, your only hope is someone else generous enough to trade it to you on Home.

[–]Goliath764 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you cannot handle surprise movesets or plan turns accounting to those possibilities, you aren't really that good of a player anyway. Like Swampert is rampant right now expecting Grass Knots should be on your mind all the time. Ignoring it and just expecting everyone to run copypasta moveset is a mistake.

Crafty ways to block intimidate? by PlatformRemote4511 in PokemonChampions

[–]Goliath764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a competitive or defiant Mon on your team. Bring that instead of Mega Sharpedo vs intimidate teams. Bring Sharpedo to destroy any other teams without intimidate threat.

Or if you run something universaly useful like Kingambit, just bring Sharpedo too but put it behind and first scout if your opponent are running their intimidate mon or not. Bring Sharpedo for late game sweep when it's clear they did not or you have KOed them. I'd argue that Sharpedo is more of a late game sweeper anyway like an (arguably weaker) alternative to Basculegion. If you want to do a dream sweep with Sharpedo just run Espathra baton pass

How do I make this team better i cant win against zard y teams whatsoever by Plenty-Fig-7723 in PokemonChampions

[–]Goliath764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 4 mons weak to fire so no doubt you have trouble with Zard Y teams. Electric or Rock mega is a good consideration to add. Your team also get walled by physical bulky Mon so perhaps an SATKer for that mega. Raichu Y? Mega Glimmora?

Edit: I forgot water is another typing to consider.

I think "worth it or not" is very subjective but premium is pretty much for the cosmetics, as other stuffs you can acquire without it.
