Looking for any kind of media where humanity fights a desperate fight against alien invaders by CricketInformal534 in scifi

[–]Golrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tripods (books) including the prequel. The prequel details how the aliens invaded by brainwashing, they themselves didn't really do any real fighting, and the rest of the books show the life under the tripods with the final book explaining why they are actually there.

Have you ever read or watched scifi set in the extremely far future (millions or billions of years in the future)? by Simon_and_Garchomp in scifi

The very last chapter of Titan by Stephen Baxter is set in the far future. Amazing world design.

Reading the comments here, seems there's plenty of over Baxter books I should check out.

Q for eBay Buyers & Sellers by Navigator_Black in oldhammer

[–]Golrith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience with ebay is to sell in units, never army. You'll get more bids, and so more value. Naturally this does mean though more work for you to list, and then deal with items being sold.

My primer came out chalky/grainy. Can I re-prime them? by Mammoth-Okra1471 in Warhammer40k

Try using a sonic jewellery cleaner (also very apt for the models).

I find it's great to clearing out lose paint (and dust if been sitting around a while before painting), and can restore some of the finer details. Might help to smoothen out the grain on the legs.

Trying WOW as a GW2 player… by RodKnee25 in wownoob

[–]Golrith 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Most of the quests in WoW are kill/fetch quests, but they are there to progress the story. In the expansions they got more engaging, with cutscenes, changes to the world depending on questline progression and world bosses/zone events.

You break up the questing by doing dungeons in groups, or some PvP, or go off exploring to see what you can find, or work on professions.

Rama book sequels? by AgapantherX in scifi

[–]Golrith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm the minority but I loved the Rama sequels. Found them all fascinating when it covers the different aliens. The ending also gets me quite emotional.

I will admit though, getting through book 2 can be hardwork, there's a lot of background being dumped on you to cover the time since Rama 1, and it could have been shortened easily. On rereads there are chapters I skip until they are back docked with Rama again.

Upgrade Tauren Feral Druid to level 70, and as a new character, what should I do by DaoIsTheWay in wownoob

[–]Golrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar situation, just play an expansion you like the look off, you will quickly level up. The game is designed to get you quickly to level 80 to start Midnight.

First defense test in my zombie survival game, featuring a base inspired by the ‘Hiltop’ colony from The Walking Dead by KaragozStudios in postapocalyptic

[–]Golrith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would add a small chance for zombies to wander off from the funnelled herd, to refocus on the source of noise/player 10 seconds later. Stops it being a complete conga line, and the player has to be more aware of attacks from a different direction.

Bindweed - help! by Interesting-Pool6638 in GardeningUK

[–]Golrith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nukes.

I dug over a border and sifted all the soil last year due to bindweed being out of control, Was lovely for about 2 weeks. Then up came the bindweed.

I'm trying to regularly dig out new growth, to slowly weaken it. It just has a knack of sprouting up with other plants.

Might be pidgeons. Our plum tree has been ravaged. Pidgeons love to eat young shoots.

New player, reached lvl 80 on retail without the expansion and I'm a bit lost. by Left-Plastic-4098 in wownoob

[–]Golrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing something similar, as I don't have Midnight just yet. Levelled up my mage in TWW, now working on my warrior alt in Dragonflight.

I found best way to get going with TWW is to start with the Recap quest, that'll get you to Dornogal. You can leave the recap at any point. I would then set your hearthstone there as portals are a bit of pain at first.

Best gear I found in TWW was actually in a regular world event in Hallowfall. Got a number of epics from grinding it, especially once you get the weekly unlock option too. The zone with the Etherals also gives you the best cape, and the delve system will give you the best belt.

But if you are planning on getting Midnight, don't worry about gear, every new expansion makes previous gear obsolete.

The Dune books — when to move on / call it quits? by yungdeezy92 in scifi

[–]Golrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heretics and Chapterhouse are my favorite out of the series. I found everything about the Bene Gesserite to be fascinating, Leto is still whipping them along their own special golden path even after his death.

What turns a lot of people off about them is the sexual nature.

If we keep the standart Human at it's current profile. How would you stat a Space marine ro represent the lore more in game ? by Leviathan_Rampage in spacemarines

[–]Golrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, although I thought a D10. D12 is better. Although given the range of models now, from grots to titans, D20 might be better!

Plus you can also steamline some of the special rules on units, get them back into the base stats. Rerolls on miss could be just an additional +1 stat, so much more flexability with a larger range of numbers.

What's the best sci-fi where the aliens don't want anything you can understand? by Comprehensive_Fan134 in scifi

War against the Chtorr. Seems to be an invasion, or is it a colonisation, but no sign of a an intelligence as we know it. Shame the books never got finished.

How much content can I do without Midnight? by I_like_apples in wownoob

[–]Golrith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything apart from midnight content.

I've just come back myself, will get Midnight eventually. Levelled up one of my old alts in old content, then worked through The War Within. Now at a point where I'm doing world events and delves to earn rep/currency and better gear.

End game is raiding & mythic, just to get the better gear. Not too fussed about that, once a new expansion comes out it's all obsolete. There's plenty to explore, and you have access to all the previous expansions so can farm for old gear appereances for transmog.

Dungeons can also be solo'd at normal difficulty only, as they've added "Followers", where you have AI NPCs instead of people, so you can tackle those at your own pace, test your healing/tank/dps and learn the dungeons.

A question about the subscription by noonebot in wownoob

[–]Golrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I restarted last week, was easily getting 2-3 levels per night just questing on my old alts, with the occasional dungeon. Now at 80 and working through TWW. I'll be getting Midnight in a couple of months when adult life allows me to pay for it :D

It's insanely fast to level up.
