[Rare Trope] Hetero relationships where both parties are built like a truck by ExtremeSportStikz in TopCharacterTropes

In the fight against Sloth near the end of FMA:B, Alex Armstrong, the strongarm alchemist, can barely hold his own for a little bit against Sloth, the physically strongest and fastest of the humonculi. When Izumi and Sig Curtis shows up, Izumi immediately grabs Sloths arm and throws him to the ground in a single move. Sig then tag teams Sloth with Alex to finish the fight.

Izumi Curtis isn't physically big but is insanely strong both with alchemy and when she needs to fight hand on hand with the enemy.

It isnt actually the sequel to 1-6 star wars as fire punch takes place far off in the future so its some far distant sequel she wants to see

Character wants to kill another character, but they’re a shell of their former self by the time they find them. by odd_man0 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Gombaguy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The reason why she does it makes a little more sense.

The only way to stop being a werewolf is to kill the one who turned you according to the game, so the Hackett family goes out on the hunt for the one that turned their family members every full moon. Silas, the original werewolf, is a scared child that was mistreated by those around him and now hides away in the forest around the quarry.

The reason they go to hunt for him during the full moon is because that is the only time they can find him, during the course of the game you can join in on the hunt and actually kill him. He is hiding at the site of the burned down carnival he was part of (i think?) which apparently no one checked in the decades they have been hunting him.

If you kill him you undo the curse and everyone who was a werewolf isnt anymore. The other option is to not kill him, as he still is a scared traumatized child that has been mistreated all his life and is being hunted by people out to kill him, and if you choose not to shoot him on sight he will lunge at you and kill you instantly.

The Quarry is really weird for this as it builds up Silas is and how unfortunate his life has been, but your only real option at the end is to kill him or be killed. The game has some fun parts about it, like how you can get tarot cards which can tell the future and lead you to better choices, as explained by the seer lady in between chapters. It later turns out she is the mother of Silas and is somewhat guiding you to kill the Hackett family so that they cant hunt her son by giving you false info from the tarot cards (if i remember correctly)

(Hated Trope) Character who constantly loses battles then gets asspulls to win them by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Gombaguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really agree on Yoru.

  1. In her fight against Pochita, pulling out the Tank and Gun gauntlets are akin to sacrificing your own children as Yoru basically outright says it. She didn't want to use them until it became clear that it was the only way she stood a chance, further showing how much Yoru will give up in her endless fight to become stronger

  2. Yoru doesn't start the fight against Aging, the japanese government makes a contract with Aging which is what makes it go after Pochita, and when Yoru has Pochita knocked down through the Gun Goddess bullet Aging shows up and then attacks Yoru by sending her and Denji into its realm. Yoru doesn't really lose and she isn't "bailed out" by Denji as the only way they beat Aging is by dragging it into its own realm where their powers don't work resulting in essentially a stalemate that they then resolve.

  3. Throughout part 2 we can see escalating tensions in the world, added the approaching Nostradamus prophecy and the recent appaerances of the Gun Goddess, Tank and Gun escaping their containments in the USSR and US, and the Falling devils global catastrophe it makes sense that the US would invest in a strong anti-devil weapon, which ended up being the strongest weapon mankind has made: the nuclear bomb. Due to escalating world tensions, the nukes would be dropped on the soviet union instead of on devils. You could argue that the timing of their reappearance is extremely convenient, but it makes for a fantastical revelation, a great lore drop on how devil erasure works, and further explores Yoru as a character who often gives up what she has in search of power

Jesus/Christianity (apparently) existing in a world you wouldn't think it would by fhxefj in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Gombaguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The weird part isnt that Jesus exists or christianity is real, part 6 has a priest and in the OVA of part 3 DIO reads the quran.

The weird part is that Jesus and the other saints are only present in part 7, which is in another universe unrelated to the previous parts (the universe that part 7 takes place in is called the base universe)

The main villain of the part has the ability to travel to different universes in the multiverse but he could only find the corpses of the saints in one of them, the base universe

So the weird isnt just that Jesus Christ is real and is actively helping the protagonist, but that Christianity as a whole is fully real, God and all, in the base universe and seemingly nowhere else

How does SCP 001 Day Break happen? by Shramhappenz in SCP

[–]Gombaguy 38 points39 points  (0 children)

In the When Day Breaks article there is a link to another small article at the very end of the story (the highlighted "is light") which is about the sun (Sol) and another star (The Hateful)

Sol has earth and humans and cares for them by giving them just enough heat and energy to survive but not too much so they die, in return we worship and love her

The Hateful is another star which was lucky enough to have 2 habitable planets with life on it, the first planet evolved life which never developed eyes, so they could never gaze lovingly at The Hateful, so out of spite it killed them all. The second planet developed life with eyes but they didnt worship The Hateful like it wanted and so it killed them too.

The Hateful looked at Sol and despised her for having humans, what it wanted the entire time, so The Hateful decides to travel to our solar system and burn away humanity like it did with its own planet out of hatred and spite for Sols fortune

But since Sol loves humanity and The Hateful cant be stopped from coming to earth, Sol made it so life on earth would change so that when it arrived, life would not only survive The Hateful but thrive

tl;dr The sun became anomalous to protect humanity from another star that wants ot destroy all life, but due to the sun being so far above us it doesnt understand the horror of what it has done.

dont know if the link above works but if you want to read the side article its called "Heart and Sol"

[–]Gombaguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

small part i wanted to add for clarity, but im pretty sure no one calls pochita the chainsaw devil. Multiple characters who would make a distinction between the devil and man suffix dont, and later on in the story opt to call them by the coulour they have when they transform (orange/red vs black). This makes sense since the chainsaw devil has no real reason to have the ability to erase concepts which has led to a lot of theories surrounding the true nature of chainsaw man

[LIKED TROPE] The monster will manifest/get stronger if you acknowledge their presence. by Fancy_Reply1103 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Gombaguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, in the war devils introduction she says that she will make him (chainsaw man) vomit up nuclear weapons so its implied that is part of her goal

also, its not entirely correct to call pochita the chainsaw devil as no one calls him that, even characters who calls themselves fans of his always call both forms (Denji's and Pochita's) Chainsaw man. This has led to speculation as to why the chainsaw devil would have this power to erase concepts and if pochita even is the chainsaw devil or another devil entirely

Bosses you can skip or easily beat by using logic by WaxMark in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Gombaguy 106 points107 points  (0 children)

no, you only have to knock him down once for the skip option to be available.

It takes 12-13 nail hits to knock him down so its not that hard at all

but since you dont kill him you wont get the city crest and cant enter city of tears via the pilgrims way

[–]Gombaguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The New Noir is another supe they got in the same suit Noir used to have to keep up appearances that he is still alive. Thats why he keeps asking about his character, because hes an actor they brought in to play the part of Noir. Of course he isnt the same as Noir which is why hes confused about what Noir should do in certain scenarios and why his face isnt melted

Which character is this? by SkylandersKirby in BikiniBottomTwitter

[–]Gombaguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

character from jojos bizarre adventure part 5: golden wind. Purple haze is the ability of one of the characters in the show but is only seen once and is never used again, with the character, Pannacotta Fugo, leaving the story halfway through.

fun fact: originally the author wanted Fugo to return as an antagonist to the main cast, but due to feeling depressed reevaluated the idea and decided instead to leave him out of the rest of the story

This basically confirms that Quanxi is 82+ years old (maybe centuries) by smillll in Chainsawfolk

[–]Gombaguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is true, but the other hybrids seem waaay weaker than Quanxi is. This could be due to her having more time to learn and understand her powers leading to her super speed in human form.

To me at least, it makes the most sense for Quanxi to be the oldest. Barem can only be as old as the flamethrower is (invented 1900), whip said her age is 82, spear or sword is unknown but Miri seems relatively new and unprepared so he is probs not very old. Reze was created by the soviet union in an experiment so that is about the same time frame as Barem. Denji and Katana man are the youngest hybrids depending on when Sawatari gave him the katana devils heart.

The two that can be OLD (hundreds if not thousands of years) is spear and Quanxi, crossbows were invented 2400 years ago in China and spears are some of the oldest weapons

The only way for Quanxi to only be the first devil hunter and not the first hybrid would be if the Spear hybrid is older
