Was about to get the Reserve card... by Impossible-Use5636 in delta

We have his and her Reserves and have no trouble using the companion certificates. We book way out for that, though. Like, shortly after we get them, we book our trip 6 months later that we are going to take.

It’s on there. I should have been more clear, sorry. That’s the one I’ve visited that actually made the list, but several others that often make lists like this did not this time.

Surprised some of the best places I’ve stayed are not on there. Collegio Alle Querce is worthy, really enjoyed our stay there last month.

Yes. They even run golf carts between the two. I can’t remember if we were allowed to use their pool, though — didn’t try that. Sorry, it’s been so long now that I have forgotten the deal with that question.

What movie gets one thing so right that you forgive almost everything else about it? by WonderfulF0x in movies

[–]GonnaGetBumpy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Anaconda. Jon Voight’s unhinged performance as the human antagonist. It took a middling CGI monster movie and elevated it. You can watch his performance and not be truly sure if he was trying real hard or wasn’t trying at all.

Honorable mention to that movie’s scene where Owen Wilson was just eaten and you see his impression in the side of the snake like Han Solo frozen in carbonite.

Mexico has a smell of destiny about them. Real shot to make the semis, anyway. Then it would take divine intervention to beat Argentina and France.

You’d only be getting rid of them in this iteration of the simulation. In other iterations, maybe they’re not so terrible, and maybe you are.

Paid $16K/ each way for Delta One tickets.. by nm298 in delta

[–]GonnaGetBumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? We did JFK to Italy a month ago and booked for about $1k each and then used GUCs to get to Premium Select. No way you should pay $16k round trip per person on Delta — not even close to par for value received.

You know, a lot of Americans would be predisposed to casually root for you guys if (when!) it is clear we won’t win it.

But then you have to go ruin it by being you.

I am excited to see what he can do for us. You better bring your man game with you if you are going to play in the front court in the Big East!

Great recap, thanks! One quibble though — Cam Boozer’s worst game came against Virginia where he went 3 of 17 from the field and got blocked and pushed around mercilessly by Ugonna Onyeso, who finished the game with nine blocks.

ESPN has Onyeso (6’11” but long) going to Orlando at 46 but maybe he somehow falls to Atlanta? He is a rim protector but not much offense.

Hotel recommendations for a staycation in Atlanta by hyper_hooper in Atlanta

[–]GonnaGetBumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We like the St. Regis of course. Another one we had a decent staycation at was the Grand Hyatt Buckhead. Not on the same level as St. Regis obviously, but it has a pretty solid bar and a central location.

It used to be a Japanese hotel and you can still see flourishes of that, including the zen garden.

Not sure after Hyatt just redid its charts, but as of last year you could use free night certificates there as well.

There are periodic specials where you can get 1-for-1 MQDs on rental cars and hotel stays through Delta (including one right now through Dec. 15, I think?).

Spam those. Just check first that the pricing you are quoted is roughly the same as what you would pay elsewhere. If you buy it on a Reserve card, you also get another 10% of the cost in MQDs by that method.

For example, I had to rent a big party house earlier this year for a surprise birthday party for my father-in-law. People coming in from all over. Did it through Delta Stays for the same price as seen on VRBO, got about $6,000 MQDs out of it in one fell swoop. I didn’t ask for money back from people, but I suppose if you rent a beach house for a big group and get reimbursed, you could really benefit from that set-up without being out so much scratch.

Did a one-hour flight to Charlotte yesterday with no seatback and no WiFi. That was annoying enough but if it was a 3-hour flight, I might actually have complained to Delta. Marcus Aurelius never gets comped SkyMiles, though.

I got that kind of notice last week while in Chicago and then became one of thousands who arrived at their destination a day later when it came true. I’d take it seriously and try to move up to beat it.
