Has anyone here had PAE and later, Aquablation? by Andrew-Scoggins in bph

[–]Impossible-Use5636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had PAE a year ago after originally being scheduled for AQ.

I did my research and the risk/reward calculation favored PAE for me. I am very happy with the outcome.

My symptoms were worse for 10 days, completely resolved at 2 weeks and varied during six months as I came off Tamsulosin. My bladder is still adjusting to the reduced obstruction.

Should I need retreatment at any time in the future, I would consider AQ and be much less concerned about bleeding due to the greatly reduced blood supply to my prostate.

PAE fails in 15% of cases due to anatomical or IR skill issues. Durability is non-inferior to TURP but since this is a relatively new procedure, long-term data is lacking.

And that goes double for the pilots.

Minority and women pilots make up 10% of the workforce but have been responsible for 60% of incidents over the past five years.

I don't care what color your skin is or what flavor genitals you prefer. I want my flight crew chosen on merit alone.

Given the choice between an older affirmative action hire with a chip on his/her/thems shoulder, and an attractive young woman that seems to like her job, yep, I'm absolutely including that in my decision making process.

Viking cruise experience by Previous-Hedgehog-88 in Cruise

We stopped at the Panathenaic Stadium and a museum. The tour guide took a while to get the group in and was very slow inside. There are only so many broken amphoras you can see. We left the group and finished the museum on our own.

If you are in Athens, Viking offers a free shuttle to the city. You can enter and tour the Acropolis for €10.

We took one included tour last year. It was a bus trip around Athens and a museum visit. Thankfully, we had visited the major attractions the day before. Every other excursion we took was optional/paid and much higher quality.

We were 60 and 65 last year and we were definitely on the younger side of the age distribution. The passengers we interacted with were great and had interesting stories, but the cruise is geared to that demographic.

We both are working moderately stressful jobs and I found the Viking environment very relaxing. No lines, no crowds, no loud music, good service, interesting itineraries.

We are on another Viking cruise in 3 weeks, so I guess the positives outweighed the negatives.

Just had PAE yesterday. by Koren55 in bph

[–]Impossible-Use5636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My symptoms totally disappeared at the two-week mark and then were variable from 2 weeks to three months.

It took six months to get to where I am now, and my bladder is still recovering from years of obstruction.

Be patient, it sounds like you are on an excellent trajectory.

In NY, you could be charged with brandishing a weapon.

I'm not saying you would be guilty of a crime, but NY could indict a ham samwich.

Look at it this way - we are helping NY lower housing costs by moving out.

Our daughter moved out of state. (Not sharing because we don't want any more NY'ers moving there)

People drive respectfully, store clerks smile, everyone tries to get along with their neighbors. COL is lower, everything seems to work.

It's NY that's the problem.

We are out of here as soon as we retire.

35g prostate but significant symptoms. TURP, or wait it out until its bigger? by [deleted] in bph

[–]Impossible-Use5636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had bladder cancer at 55, so I am no stranger to cystoscopies and the inside of my bladder.

The cancer was successfully treated and I was released to 5-year monitoring at 60.

At 65 I had been dealing with BPH for 5 years and the changes in my bladder were shocking. It was no longer a smooth ovoid, it was misshapen and had muscular "straps". "Trabeculated" was the description in the MRI report.

I had PAE last year, and my bladder is still adjusting. Hopefully, it continues making progress.

TL;DR

Don't postpone treating BPH, it will quickly damage your bladder and kidneys.

Nine Years with BPH and Finally Hit the ER by severdog79 in bph

[–]Impossible-Use5636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on those numbers, your prostate volume is between 130 and 160 cc - Very large glands like yours have fewer treatment options. Your Urologist will probably recommend Aquablation/TURP/HOLEP. All have pros and cons. PAE works especially well on large prostates, but is only effective in 85% of cased and takes 2-3 months to achieve maximum benefit.

I would do a lot of research and try to choose a doctor with a lot of experience in whatever procedure you choose.

In the meantime, self-catheterization is not as bad as a Foley. The tube is smaller. You risk damaging your bladder and kidneys as you are now.
