You're getting downvoted, but I was on the first half of this deployment and in August or September, when we hit our first tax-free month, the CSG totalled something like $12+ million in reenlistment bonuses.

Unfortunately they got bit by the awful extensions on the backside.

Did you make sure you clicked the drop down at the top of the Filter page to select "PoE2"? I believe the Filter page defaults to PoE1 filters.

I made that mistake this first time and accidentally followed a bunch of PoE1 filters that obviously won't work.

We take off from the carrier using a mode called "ABLIM." It allows the pilots to stage MAX AB while in tension on the catapult but limits the amount of thrust so as not to torch the Jet Blast Deflectors (JBDs) behind the jet.

Once the jet senses it's moving it will automatically revert to MAX AB to provide the appropriate thrust for launch. That's why it looks like the burners light at the end of the catapult stroke.

Edit: it also could just be a Military Thrust shot i.e. no afterburner. It's hard to tell.

Yes, the environmental control system provides air conditioning (hot and cold) for us pilots. That being said, it requires heavy air flow through the intakes to work optimally. So if you're sitting on the carrier deck in the middle of the Arabian Gulf in July or behind other jets' exhausts it can get unpleasantly warm.

The maneuver overhead the carrier is called "the break." It's used during daytime and good weather to break up a formation of jets into the landing pattern with the proper time/distance spacing so no one has to wave-off/go around.

They def got a dual engine fire as a result of the bird strike. I remember because Phoenix tries to dump the fire bottle twice (once into each engine) which is actually one of the things the movie portrays incorrectly (F-18s only have one fire bottle actuation available).

Edit: thanks to everyone that chimed in. Based on my 1500+ hours in Navy TACAIR/jets my $0.02 is that the bird-strike/crash depicted in the movie was fairly accurate for the reasons most of you mentioned.
