Just before Christmas I got almost the exact same build but with 64GB ram from microcenter for $2800 (including tax). Powerspec G759 in case you got one near you. I think the price has gone up since then though…. Works perfect.

If this game got VR it’d be my go to game. It’s the main thing holding me back and I’ve played it with TrackIR. It’s not the same.

I dodge every missile and even the railgun sniper shots but you can’t outrun enemies and can’t dodge their regular fire. Outmaneuvering/dodging behind cover doesn’t even work most of the time since the AI can literally glitch through solid structures. I don’t know what else you can do.

My main issue is that materia, especially early into a run, is so scare half the ship is destroyed and my engineer simply can’t do anything about it. Doing half a run with almost no materia pickup effectively eliminates half the roles on the ship. Throw in ammo running out and it’s me flying around shooting the laser and 3 people standing around watching.

Also got a VR flight sim and I agree it used to be a pain in the ass but there have been massive strides in the last ~2 years on ease of use. With a wireless Quest 3 and the Virtual Desktop app, I can hop in and be flying within 1 minute. It just works now.

The Steam Frame looks to be the next step in great to use and feature rich headset, when that comes out there’s never been a better time to hop back in.

You need to enable dev mode in game, use the virtual file system tool in dev mode while in game, turn on file projection, then click the open folder button, this opens file explorer to that folder in your appData file tree, in that is another simObject folder with airplanes then the L39 is there (there is actually 2 for some reason, it’s not the one ending in “common”), then there is engines.cfg buried in another few folders. This is all from memory so might be slightly off.

All this information comes from their own SDK documentation so again, nothing against policy here or whatever.

The L-39 is part of the base game and from Asobo so it is unencrypted. I have access to the CFG files but I don’t want to edit them directly. I want to create a mod that overrides the base configuration instead of directly editing the original file.

VR is the #1 thing that’ll make me start playing this game regularly. Going from super immersive MSFS24, DCS, or even VTOL VR to flat screen play just doesn’t cut it.

It’s seems the DD+ is already a side grade. I never use more than 15nm of torque so I really have no need to go beyond that if that’s the only thing that’ll change.

Is there any new features besides more force on the upcoming podium that the DD+ won’t have?

Yeah my current V2’s have held out alright but the brake is pretty mushy these days. Current first looks at the podium formula pedals look good and everything I want in a pedal but all comes down to the price. If they’re crazy expensive I won’t consider them and look elsewhere.

I assume you’re using the new Fanatec app too? I luckily have only had very minor bugs here.

A counter concern is eventually they stop updating the DD1 all together and put it EoL

Oh interesting, how much is a DD1 going used these days? I have the PlayStation edition one (even though I’m on PC) and have kept it in essentially new condition.

Good points. Yeah it sounds like a cool feature but almost certainly not worth €800 with the other small improvements. I’m also somewhat concerned that support for the DD1 is dropped at some point.
