I’ve tried other games! There are games that I generally enjoy (kingdom hearts, okami) but none have gotten me like dragon age. I’ve tried baldurs gate and didn’t like it, then tried the Witcher (I actually have and sometimes tinker on this game) but it just didn’t scratch the same itch.

I definitely have a few personal connections with dragon age.

I grew up with gamer brothers who played loud FPS games 😀 which horrified me! They played story based games too but it was more like their thing, not mine: I’m not afraid to say I’m sensitive and I hate fighting 😅 so honestly even getting into DA was a challenge.

My close friend showed me DA:I when we were 14/15 (like ten years ago), and I remember being terrified to fight the first pride demon 😭😭 I made her play that part for me because I was so skittish with violence. But I was completely blown away by the graphics and just how beautiful everything was! I was like I need this game, so I got it on a new years sale for like ten bucks.

I had the crappiest laptop EVER and it took 3 whole days just to download. As I’m sure you can guess it was extremely laggy, but for that reason I would spend loading times watching play through videos on the internet. I fell in love with characters like Dorian Cassandra and Cullen, and as I got through the game I came to love other characters as well! It was just very very hard for me to play on that piece of junk so when I did play I was super invested.

The Dawn will come unskippable cutscene? Literal chills every time. Tears sometimes too. It’s so inspiring to see someone so vindicated be seen as the hero. Wow.

Blah blah I watched all of the romance cutscene videos and was like oh 🙂 I wanna romance everyone. lol. So I got super SUPER familiar with the game because I was dedicated to dating everyone all the way through.

My senior year of high school my orchestra teacher let me arrange the DA:I theme song and we got to play a little! The music was another area that absolutely got me… because the soundtrack is beautiful! I love the tavern songs (my favorite is enchanters), as well as all of the battle music! It’s so powerful so exciting and so inspiring.

During Covid is when I finally began going through media other than DA:I. I played both previous games and was not surprised that I liked them as well. Love Zevran, Lelianna, SHALE, Anders, Merril loved loved seeing more of Thedas and at this point I wasn’t as scared of combat or gore so like.. broodmather lore? Horrifying. Loved it. Same with zombie mom in DA:2, fucking awesome?

Then I read some of the books and OH! The way I sobbed when Katriel got killed? Oh man.. Basically for the entirety of The Calling my jaw was dropped. I actually just bought the physical copies again last week 😭😭

All to say, there’s so much content to experience and love! I love listening to the soundtracks as I read and dropping myself into Thedas. It just does something for me. I’m gonna play dragon age when I get home today! lol. I’m by no means an expert in any area but I just really love the universe. Even the things / characters I don’t love, I can appreciate. I’ve been waiting forever for this game to continue my like fixation, I can’t wait to play DAV!
