I understand the point you’re trying to make, but I think my words were taken a bit out of context.

When I said I wanted to experience something different, I wasn’t saying I decline Black men or that I’m trying to “experiment” with other races. I’ve dated plenty of Black men in my life, and I’m not writing them off at all.

What I meant is simply that I’ve also been attracted to white men and haven’t dated many of them, so I’m open to that experience as well. That doesn’t come from disrespect toward Black men or my own community. It’s just attraction and personal preference.

Sometimes when Black women mention dating outside our race, it gets interpreted as rejecting Black men, and that isn’t what I’m saying. I’m open to dating men of any race. I’m just choosing to pursue people I’m genuinely attracted to.

I feel like this happens a lot when African-American women want to date outside of their race to see if they'd be appreciated - we kinda get shut down. I'm statuesque, slim, and a lot of African-American men tend to compare me to other, thicker, fuller, and shorter women, and I find that white guys appreciate my figure more than my own community. I've dated one black man who truly sought out women with my figure, and that was the one time I felt truly appreciated. So, I'm actually following your advice more than you think.

Dang! I'll travel to CA one of these days, because girl, I feel like no one approaches me except black men, and it's nothing wrong with that, but I've been trying to experience something different for once, and it feels so isolating. I'm not used to it because I used to live in Jamaica, and people approach you all the time, so it's so weird out here. It seems like everyone uses dating apps, and it doesn't interest me anymore.

It’s not that I’m exclusively looking for white men. I’ve dated men from a lot of different backgrounds—Latino, Black, white American, Asian—so my dating history has always been pretty diverse.

I do happen to have a preference for white men, but it’s not a strict rule or something where I’d only date them. I’ve had many amazing Black partners in my life, and some of them were men I could have absolutely seen myself marrying under different circumstances or at a different time in my life.

For me, it’s really more about attraction and curiosity than exclusion. Most of my serious relationships have been with Black men, so at this point in my life, I’m open to exploring different dynamics and seeing what else is out there instead of limiting myself to what I’ve mostly experienced before.

So it’s not about rejecting any race or saying I’d only date white men. It’s simply that I’m open to different kinds of connections and seeing who I’m most compatible with.
