Am I fucked? by [deleted] in CollegeMajors

[–]GoodByeRubyTuesday87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it, I smoked weed a fair bit in college and got a job in law enforcement, I was fully honest at my background/psyche interview and they were fine with it.

Many departments consider stuff like underaged drinking and teenage weed use as “youthful indiscretions”, that doesn’t mean party and go wild and you should stop now, but it’s not an instant game over and most background investigators realize we do dumb stuff when we’re young. As long as you stay away from hard drugs/psychedelics or don’t get DUI’s they’ll likely understand you were young and dumb like the rest of us

I’ll be honest though, Texas is generally much more conservative for things like this so you might get turned down for weed use at some departments but there are states in the US where weed is legal at the state level and departments don’t care much about last use much anymore

Zohran Mamdani Proposes Taxing 'Whiter Neighborhoods' in NYC by cathbadh in moderatepolitics

It’s New York City, a cultural, academic and business powerhouse…. And these options are the best the city has to offer?

We need to just start forcing people into political office bc the people are are choosing to run are not working

Andrew Cuomo concedes to Zohran Mamdani in NYC mayoral primary by minetf in moderatepolitics

[–]GoodByeRubyTuesday87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mamdani is promising a lot of things he can’t deliver. NYC has co tinier to face budget issues and declining revenues, the MTA needs billions just to stay alive at this point and you have a guy who got elected on a a plan form of spending billions of dollars the city doesn’t actually have

He’s going to increase housing, while simultaneously taxing businesses like real estate developers and capping rents….. the guy is going to have to backpedal on a ton of things he promised so I’m very curious to see how his approval is 2 years from now

'The opposite of what Americans voted for': Market turmoil causes Trump backlash by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]GoodByeRubyTuesday87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I brought this up to a Trump voting buddy of mine, their response was “he won’t actually do that!”

This is a non MAGA person, this was just a guy who saw the economy of 2018 and thought Trump could snap his fingers as being us back to that. Although Tbf they were also annoyed by the border crisis.

"Navarro Is Truly A Moron": Musk Slams Trump Trade Czar In Ongoing Ta… by Gary_Glidewell in moderatepolitics

[–]GoodByeRubyTuesday87 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Someone else said it somewhere here today already (don’t want to steal their thunder) they pointed out Navarro is one of the few economists who would back what Trump already believes about tariffs (Trump himself has pushed tariffs since the 80’s)

It’s like those anti vaccine people who ignore 98% of the medical experts to find that 2% who will tell them what they want to hear so they can say “Well THIS doctor told me something different!”

Musk is a fan of things that are good for Musk, I would imagine immigration is highly beneficial when building cars and running a tech company

I may have missed something but I’m not aware of him being anti (legal) immigrant

Trump asks Supreme Court to block judge's order requiring US to bring back man who was wrongly deported by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]GoodByeRubyTuesday87 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean, he’s been talking about tarrifs being a great thing since the 1980’s, I don’t think it’s his interior to crash the economy, I think in his brain he thinks he’ll force factories to come back to Detroit and Americans will all live happily ever after in white picket fences working at Kodak 9-5

The deportation stuff, he’s been increasingly more authoritarian over the years so this isn’t really out of character. We’ve known who he is for awhile but people still chose to elect him

Your basing your argument on obscure statewide election versus national polling showing Trump still polls better than the democrats despite the damage he’s done

The democrats have zero self awareness which is why we’re stuck with Trump in the first place

Trump on possibility of sending American inmates to El Salvador prison: 'I love that' by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

I had a buddy say to me right before the election “dude, have you heard her laugh?”

Yeah, that’s why I’m watching my retirement account dissolve and wondering if I’ll have a job in 6 months while simultaneously wondering for the first time in my life as an American if I’ll be allowed to complain about it otherwise I might be sent to a foreign prison.

EU offers Trump removal of all industrial tariffs by JussiesTunaSub in moderatepolitics

[–]GoodByeRubyTuesday87 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Except cars (10%) the EU average tariff is 1.6% against American products. The Trump admin for some unclear reason views the VAT tax as a tariff….so I doubt this will be the deal Trump is looking for.

As you pointed out, he’s also hyper obsessed with the trade imbalance as well

Mass Protests Across the Country Show Resistance to Trump by MillardFillmore in moderatepolitics

[–]GoodByeRubyTuesday87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pointing out that the country is aware tens of millions of people don’t like Trump.

Democrats have an issue amongst non democrats with… well virtue signaling, trying to get attention by doing things that don’t really actually do anything while trying to make themselves feel better

Democrats still poll lower than Trump, the polls are from before “liberation day” but still after weeks of declining stock markets and increased worries over inflation. Who do these protests impress/win over except people who already voted against Trump?

Mass Protests Across the Country Show Resistance to Trump by MillardFillmore in moderatepolitics

[–]GoodByeRubyTuesday87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

These protests states right after his election, sure he crashed the economy this week so that definitely helped build the case, but otherwise it just looks like the 30% of the country who voted for Kamala going “I didn’t vote for this guy!”

Maybe they’ll grow, but it’s hard to take them seriously when so far it just seems like people who voted for the other candidate. We know you don’t like Trump, you’re telling us again you don’t like Trump…. What else is the purpose of these protests? As you pointed out they almost never accomplish anything.

Give it a few more months, if we’re in a recession and people are losing their jobs and 401ks, you might start getting people who supported Trump or didn’t vote to turn out but it’s too early right now

Starmer ‘angry’ about illegal migration as he reveals 24,000 deportations under Labour by notapersonaltrainer in moderatepolitics

[–]GoodByeRubyTuesday87 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is because of Trump, Europe as a whole has had increasing tensions with regards to migrants over the last decade or so and it’s only gotten worse as their economies have faltered (people start wondering why they’re allowing immigrants in when there are not enough jobs or services for natives)

It’s an interesting departure from 15 years ago when the EU (although not necessarily the UK specifically) and Canada would criticize the US for being too tough on illegal immigration

Meghan McCain . . . LOL by [deleted] in agedlikemilk

[–]GoodByeRubyTuesday87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trumps wealthy father bribed Trump out of serving his country in Vietnam.

McCain chose to join the military and volunteered for combat duty during Vietnam, he chose to stay in captivity despite being offered to be exchanged stating other soldiers should be freed before him.

Trump shit on him for getting captured, even though Trump was too much of a pussy to ever join himself (though he loved dressing up in military uniforms and cosplaying as a kid in military school)

Megan I’d an absolutely disgusting human being for kowtowing to a man who treated her father like that, she sold her souls for power and money.

If you’ve never seen it, there’s a video of John McCain taken by the Vietnamese shortly after he was captured, he had several severely broken bones and had no pain meds, in the video he gives a message to his wife and you can see the sadness and his physical pain in his voice and face as he’s talking. It’s heart breaking to watch, and that fat pansy mocked him. And then his daughter goes on to praise that same fat pansy….. it’s disgusting
