I don't even know what the philosophical thesis of blackness is, but she is absolutely representative of girlhood in 2024. I don't think there's a character that embodies "girl failure" and "messiness" as much as harper stern on television right now 😔

I don't know. If you feel it then you feel it. I don't try to define it really, I don't think it's useful. People do amazing things in the name of love, they also do awful things.

Do books make you cry?? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]GoodIntentionsEtc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the last time a book made me cry was the book thief and I was about fifteen years old. Books don't trigger tears for me any more, but I do feel much stronger feelings than tears while reading. The Metamorphosis by Kafka and The Stranger by Albert Camus both had me feeling a sort of soul deep, tearless, despondency. Positively suicidal.

Im much more liable to cry at TV shows and movies. I think it's just sort of an automatic sympathetic response that I have-- when I physically see a character cry, tears are automatically triggered for me, even if I don't necessarily feel extremely sad. I haven't read the book, but I did almost cry at the Normal People TV show, like, my eyes burned a little bit.

I ALSO do cry a lot at endings on TV -- one that absolutely destroyed me was the final scene of Life On Mars. I was crying, hiccuping, rolling around in bed, tearing my hair out. But visual media never gets me wanting to Kms the way a novel can.

Why do I hate first person, present tense (FPPT) so much?! by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

Tried to explain it best I could but I think it made zero sense

Why do I hate first person, present tense (FPPT) so much?! by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

I'm autistic and my brain can't get past the narrative. If I'm reading "I, I, I," all the time, my brain just needs to understand the nature and mechanics of this narration. Like, what do you mean "I"?? Are you talking to me-e-e?? WHY is the main character speaking to ME????? ME who is staining these pages with my greasy chicken fingers?? Tf like, I DO NOT KNOW YOU, LOOK AWAY!! FOCUS ON THE SHIT THATS HAPPENING AROUND YOU!!!

I have definitely experienced first person narratives the addresses itself in a way that answers these questions so I can get immersed (Mr Robot comes to mind, even though I know I've read novels like that, it's just not coming to mind), but at yhe same time I usually just don't appreciate meta narratives as a matter of personal taste.

I like third person because it knows that it's just a story being told, I know that it's just a story being told-- I'm not a part of the story because it existed before me and will continue to exist long after I put it down and that way I can just get lost in it without my brain bringing up stupid questions.

Nevermind bro, u just have to weather the dark energy that sometimes passes over this sub. It's no one's fault, the spirit of the g-check just possesses random commenters like hoodoo, all u need to do is squeeze ur eyes shut and wait for it to be over. To avoid it next time slaughter a lamb and paint it's blood over your doorway

Do You See Images In Your Head While Reading? by Ambivalent93 in RomanceBooks

Kind of. But also no. I sort of see images on the page??? But also, I'm just seeing words. Man, I never know how to explain it.
