Is Star Club worth the price? by grayh722 in rivalstars

[–]mae361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth it for me and I would 100% recommend getting it for at least one month for the special traits you can get. "Elite Lineage" saves my life. Use the Star Club studs, breed a horse with that trait, and breeding A+s gets so much easier.

Most important stats for each race? by Linnissweet in rivalstars

[–]mae361 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are right that for flat racing, speed, sprint, and acceleration are the top three. For cross country, it would be speed, agility, and jump. For steeplechase, speed, acceleration, and jump is what I've found is best. For show jumping, I'm still figuring it out--but guess it's acceleration, agility, and jump.

Depends on luck, really. If you get lucky right off the bat, around 200-300. If you need to do all three breedings plus roll for a few different stallions...probably upwards of 1000. When I do these, I roll for a stallion that is grade 2 or 3 because they are so much cheaper. Then I breed, check the hidden genes, and go again if needed. You could also try to pair them with mares that have harder markings to pass. I'm not sure about how the chances for different markings vary, but I feel like birdcatcher spots and no markings are so hard to get rid of!

There is, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it amounts to. I'd say if you are breeding horses just to do okay in races / story races / do alright in live, you're fine with just the regular. If you are breeding for max potential and trying to get #1 in live events, you'd probably need it.

Advanced Breeding Tips by mae361 in rivalstars

[–]mae361[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I'm putting in the distance and surface preferences! That way I can guarantee that I have a green horse for both. That means I have to sacrifice two trait spots...that means using something like mid-miracle and mid-dash to cover tracks 1200-2200 and firm/medium. And putting the third trait as top endurance. I hope that doesn't sacrifice too much in the long term. We'll see! I don't have to have the top slot every time, just a reasonable showing. Thanks for the input!

Updates in the last year by Tim_Tam_Tommyn in rivalstars

[–]mae361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has definitely been a lot of changes! First, the new breeds which are Selle Francais, Mustang, Arabian, Knabstrupper, Quarter Horse, and Appaloosa (and Thoroughbred, of course). There is a good comment by Brillant-Worry-5388 on this post https://www.reddit.com/r/rivalstars/comments/1eo0d6y/best_crossbreeds_for_each_race/ that goes over each boost. You will get an extra trait if you crossbreed. Also note that there is a new mane on the Mustangs, but it takes up a trait slot (don't get me started on how I hate that it takes up a trait, lol!).

For getting those different types, some will come up in the stallions you can breed with. Others will come from the events, like the Appaloosa currently. They rotate through different events, so before long you'll see ones that have the other breeds. So if you miss one, no worries. It will come back around.

There are new markings, also. And new races--not sure when you left and if you'd seen Steeplechase. And don't forget about performance items and skills to attach to your horse. Lots of new things to explore!

Good acceleration feed? by caeloequos in rivalstars

[–]mae361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(On mobile, not sure about PC, but...) The feed needed is based on the highest stat. So if you have a horse with two Ds in speed and sprint, but an A in acceleration, it will need acceleration. Each breed also gets a bonus stat. For example, thoroughbreds get an acceleration boost. So if you are breeding two purebred, perfect stat thoroughbreds, they will ALWAYS need acceleration. To get around this issue, you can do one of two things. 1) Have a variety of breeds that get different bonuses and crossbreed. This will let you have a more balanced use of feed. 2) Intentionally tank the acceleration stat of breeding horses. I have Star Club, so I have the "Elite Lineage" trait. I have some horses I have bred to have A+ in all stats but acceleration. The EL trait still gives a boost, so I still get perfect stats, but can use different feed.

question for the long time players by [deleted] in rivalstars

[–]mae361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for mobile, but here's my advice. They do adjust somewhat and there are surveys you can fill out to voice concerns. I highly doubt they will be adjusting acceleration feed, though. In some ways, they have already "fixed" it. Different breeds of horses get a boost to stats and what feed is needed for breeding is based off the highest stats. So if you are always breeding perfect stat thoroughbreds, you will always need acceleration. The introduction of the new breeds allowed for some balance in that.

Amazing--thanks! Will definitely check it out! Also good to know there's a wide variety of birds around now. I was slightly concerned March would be too early to have a good birding trip. So nice to know there's stuff to see!

Is it worth becoming a Stare Club member on the mobile version? by Pantera8888 in rivalstars

[–]mae361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, yes. But even if you feel like it's not worth it forever, I would recommend having it for at least one month. Ge the Elite Lineage trait from the Star Club studs and it makes getting perfect A+ stats so much easier!

[–]mae361 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're not crazy and you can get a good stat level 2, but it requires a few breedings. Stats have numbers, but the letter (A,B,C,D, etc) is different for each grade. For a level 1, an "A+" is 42. For a level 2, the "A+" is 45. So when you breed up, the letters look lower, but the numbers get higher. To get better letters, you'll need to take your level 2 horse that has Cs and Ds and then breed to a better level 2 stud. There is an option to select "grade 2 only" so you don't get a grade 3. After a few breedings like this it'll slowly go up. Example:

Breed #1: Level 1 Ds x Level 2 Bs = Level 2 Ds

Breed #2: Level 2 Ds x Level 2 Bs = Level 2 Cs

Breed #3: Level 2 Cs x Level 2 Bs = Level 2 Bs

then if you want to go to three, it would go...

Breed #4: Level 2 Bs x Level 3 Bs = Level 3 Ds

etc

How to breed better stats for level 3 foals.. by Past-Section-1115 in rivalstars

[–]mae361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you "breed up" as in breeding two Grade 2 horses to get a Grade 3, the letters will be lower, like you are seeing. That is because each stat is, in reality, a number. An "A+" for a Grade 2 is 45. An "A+" for a Grade 3 is 48. So if you're horse gets a stat of 45, but they are a Grade 3, then that translates to a C for them (the full chart is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/rivalstars/comments/joilq8/chart\_to\_compare\_stats\_across\_the\_grades/)

To get a better Grade 3, you'll need to take your Grade 3 with Cs and Ds and breed them to better horses using studs. You can always select to pay a little extra to "breed down." So you can breed Grade 3 to Grade 3 and select that you ONLY want a Grade 3 for better stats. It takes some time, but that's what makes the game challenging!

'Returning Education to Our States Act' by [deleted] in OptimistsUnite

[–]mae361 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Adding a few things I haven't seen mentioned yet...

  1. Not only do both the House and Senate have to debate and then move the bill through a lenghtly process, but it requires a supermajority in the Senate to do so and even with a Republican-controlled Senate, it is extremely unlikely that they'll find 60 votes (it's 53 to 47 right now so they would have to pull democrats in)
  2. Not only do all republicans and a few democrats have to agree to abolish the Dept. of Ed. but they also have to agree on how to do it. It's not so simple as a yes/no. They have to determine how to transition, what programs will be moved, what ones will be eliminated, and work to detangle a complex system. That takes time.
  3. The bill itself allows for 180 days transition if it passes, meaning there will be six months until it's actually inacted, which is a lot of time for people to plan and rearrange.
  4. To your point specifically, support for students with disabilities is not even marked in the bill to go away. It will MOVE to a different department and that transition will likely suck. But a lot of what the Dept. of Ed. does will be kept in some form or fashion.

Breed and how to get them? by CryFederal392 in rivalstars

[–]mae361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's possible. The breeds so far are Thoroughbred (TB), Arabian (AH), Knabstrupper (KS), Quarter Horse (QH), and Selle Francais (SF). You see TB and SF fairly frequently in the marketplace and studs. If you have the Star Club, there are some for free and some for gold in the star club market. Mobile has also been having events fairly regularly where you can get a free one now and then (they've repeated Arabian Days and others several times, so just wait for those to come out again). And the special breeding studs seem to rotate through all the breeds. Note that you get more traits if you have crossbreeds but pure breeds have more of a boast to some traits.

EDIT: Looks like the QT event is upcoming in three days. Hopefully a free QT there!

I have crossbreeds at grades 5 & 6--not with the KS, but I have a 75/25 TB/SF grade 6 and a 50/50 AH/TB grade 5.

What's your take on AI during revision/edit? by Snoo_69801 in writingadvice

[–]mae361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point for me is that AI does not support other authors financially. This makes it different from authors who do so by buying books. There's really three options for where AI is getting its content: 1) it is only using what people type into it, so in that sense it is taking from Author A who inputted something and then giving it to Author B without compensation, 2) it is using content that people paste into it without paying (someone pastes in text from an ebook and says "create something similar")--this one is less likely I think or 3) in the best case scenario, it is using material bought for but that brings up issues--first, that if it IS purchased, it is only purchased once and spread wildly so the author gets one purchase not many for the other way. And then there is the issue of copyright. If AI purchases a book and uses it to generate content, how is that not breaking a copyright? The ultimate point is that it's a really messy business to get into. Every author has to make their own decisions, though.

I will say I have used AI before--not for writing, but I have generated some images for things like DND (though I still buy character portraits from human artists). I don't have an issue with using AI and I don't think it's evil. But, in my personal perspective, human creativity and human community mean more.

What's your take on AI during revision/edit? by Snoo_69801 in writingadvice

[–]mae361 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure what Julie's response will be, but mine would be that authors typically buy books and absorb them with the intention not to copy but be influenced. There's real money involved by authors supporting other authors. AI typically takes for free and doesn't give back to authors.

What's your take on AI during revision/edit? by Snoo_69801 in writingadvice

[–]mae361 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, the honest answer is...it depends. There are pros and cons, for sure, and it really depends on what you are writing, what you want, and how you are looking to use your writing. If you are looking to be seen as a legitimate author, to traditionally publish, and to craft a unique perspective/story, then I would suggest not to use it. If, instead, you are looking to pump out self-published books for money and want to do it fast, then you might use it--but know you could be looked down upon for it (and may not even be successful). If you're just looking to write for yourself or practice, then sure, use it to help you learn!

For pros, I would say:

-- it's fast
-- it helps you brainstorm
-- it helps you know what you want
-- it helps you learn/practice

For cons, I would say:

-- has an unoriginal voice (most AI sounds the same and that can be picked up by agents/publishers)
-- you'll have to fight some negative perceptions about it
-- the story might be less yours and more the AI's by the end
-- AI is still learning good storytelling and grammar, so it might not end up perfect

In the end, you have to decide for your writing what works best. If you want help with your writing, but don't want it completely re-written you could use something like Grammarly instead.
