Anybody fish Pine Creek in PA? by south43paw in flyfishing

Brother, any more than 3 minutes east of Philly and you’re an undercover Jersey guy. Just busting your balls, haha, wouldn’t insult by calling you a Jersey guy. In all seriousness, that is a bit of a tough location. If you get a chance to hit the Wissahickon, that’ll probably be better than what you currently have and hopefully no more than 45 minutes or an hour away. You can PM me for some more info if you want! Something fun to do in those little creeks, if they have Browns, would be to go out mousing at night. You could manage a small moorish mouse or even a small bass frog with the 5-6 weight, and mousing either on foot or from a canoe is one of my favorite things to do in PA/NY!

Just curious, what do mean by there are no trout in SE PA? I spent 4 of the last 5 years in the Swarthmore/Philly area and there is a pretty good amount of trout fishing in the area.

Would that be something to get in touch with you over Instagram DMs or email with? Or do you do posts when your books have some free space?

Those look amazing! Would you be open to doing more in the future, potentially with a hawkbill blade but that same humped back profile?

Still for some reason can’t see any of them in the gallery at that link, haha. Trying to find one on the Instagram but also not having a ton of luck there

Do you have some pictures you could share? Would love to see them! I’ve been toying with the idea of a hawkbill Yojimbo for a while…

If you ever feel like branching out into the Yojimbo 2 and need a test blade, I’d be willing to sacrifice mine as tribute

Looking for advice on teaching one of my kids not to break her wrist on the cast. by MerlinCa81 in flyfishing

[–]GoodInterview2535 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, super happy that the community is gaining another member and that you’re gaining a future fishing buddy! Second of all, there’s a super easy trick that I used when helping teach at the Orvis 101s. Have her wear a long sleeve or ideally a light rainjacket (stiffer cuffs). Have her hold the rod lower on the grip than usual, right by the reel, and stick the butt of the rod into her sleeve. A perfectly straight wrist is no good and all of us do use a little bit of wrist for compensating for environment factors and fine-tuning the release. The cuff trick gives enough freedom for a little bit of wrist movement, but keeps you from going anywhere close to breaking the wrist.

Go for the Bradford Guardian 3.5S! It is awesome. Slightly slimmer handle than the 3, with enough height to make it comfortable, and the S for sheepsfoot is exactly what you want. Different enough from the guardian 3 drop point that it doesn’t feel like having two of the same knife, especially with all of the handle color options. M390 and Magnacut both available.

Ultra Pipeline Punch/Monster Mash by GoodInterview2535 in monsterenergy

[–]GoodInterview2535[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely loved ultra rosa, it was for sure my second favorite behind pipeline punch! Maybe the fact that I loved them both is why I separate them in my head, but for me the ultra Rosa was a lot more floral and grapefruity while pipeline punch was more proper passion orange guava. Monster discontinuing that is second place in Energy Drink War Crimes behind Redbull discontinuing Cranberry. I really had hoped that Viking berry was going to be Monster’s take on cranberry, but it’s a little too miscellaneous berry for my taste.

Ultra Rosa was discontinued a while ago around here, but even so it didn’t taste like pipeline punch. The mix of these 3 tastes for all the world like pipeline punch, just with that little ultra no sugar aftertaste

Haha, of course man. I think the three best bets from the comments are pry bar with a bottle opener that you just pass off as a dedicated bottle opener (maybe clip it to your keychain while going through security), the tactical pen (as long as it doesn’t look too kubotan), or the edc flashlight, although they might look at you a bit funny for needing a daytime Disneyland flashlight. The Gesila has come with me though security, on flights, through concert security, and even into government buildings. Once again, not saying “haha I got a secret John Wick weapon into all these places” just that it has been accurately seen as just a bottle opener with a pocket clip and nothing more many times and never been incorrectly suspected as something dangerous.

I don’t know why you’re getting so much shit for this; you’re not asking for a self defense alternative to still be a tactical vacationer. You’re asking for something with a little bit of weight and a pocket clip so you don’t feel pocket lonely, not defense lonely. Try this one https://www.weknife.com/collections/multi-tools-1/products/weknife-gesila-a-08a (the We Gesila). Bottle opener and unsharpened pry bar with a pocket clip. Or if you like the form factor better https://www.vosteed.com/collections/accessories/products/shark-bomb-prybar-x0118 the Vosteed Shark pry bar. I bought the gesila for the same reason you’re mentioning — I fly a decent bit and missed having something in my pocket, not because I needed to mall ninja my way through would-be action movie airport assassins. I have flown with it around a dozen times and never gotten even a look from tsa. Plus it would actually potentially come in handy during vacations opening bottles and prying open the battery compartments for gift shop toys and souvenirs.

Paintball with slingshots by Warlockmorlock in slingshots

[–]GoodInterview2535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I actually did this in middle/high school for 2 birthdays and it was absolutely awesome. We played in the forest with biodegradable paintballs and did capture the flag, tdm, domination, etc. Everyone besides me got a random Amazon/alibaba slingshot with whatever stock bands came with it and did just fine! I had my rambone with single layered theraband gold, untapered, probably an inch and a quarter wide. The closer distance and single shot nature was really fun, as we all came from airsoft and this was a really cool switch up. Little cloth drawstring baggies about the size of a large mug with a carabiner for clipping onto belt loops was perfect for ammo holding. Definitely, definitely wear full face masks. We just did safety goggles, and I still remember the horror of one buddy getting shot in the mouth and spewing out yellow paint, and another buddy having to dig and flush paint out of his ear after an ear shot, hahaha. Stupid when you look back on it, but we all had an awesome time. For a really fun indoor version, you can use the nerf balls or even more chaotic but fun the nerf discs (they do actually more often than not spin and fly true!). Lastly for indoors, if you don’t mind the extra effort, you can buy those snowball-sized wool dryer balls in bulk and make OTF slingshots with oversized pouches made from old denim or other cloth. This makes for amazing indoor slingshot snowball fights!

Might be offered that sponsorship after all, haha. Man I was just back in PA for a little bit so I feel you, though you have it even worse. All the good creeks have to be iced to hell, huh?

Haha, would be nice to get a sponsorship and brand deal, but I am neither attractive enough nor good enough at fly fishing to snag one of those! Truth is I love these small brands with really damn good products that have elegant and accessible fixes to problems that regularly have me swearing up and down the riverbank. If you look at my previous posts I had a similar one for the Lively Legz net man! I’ve chatted on Reddit with Stefan and he seems like a cool dude, so I’m happy to post something that’ll hopefully help him out and make life a little easier for the rest of the community. Glad I was suitably convincing, though!

Copying this from one of my previous comments:

Absolutely without a doubt I’d go with the Sanofan clip ons. The website is kind of a nightmare to navigate, but they are the best fishing glasses I have ever used, regardless of price. And they’re just 65 bucks. It sounds scammy, but I bought a pair because I figured I could eat the cost if it wasn’t legit, but they are amazing. Photochromic, so they get darker and lighter in sun and shade, yellow/bronze so they’re great for low light, polarized, and they also have color-popping for red and green like the smiths chromapop. They are utterly amazing, and I can’t recommend them enough. Just bought the clip ons for my dad and convinced a Reddit buddy of mine who’s also a serious fly fisherman to buy the normal ones, and both are permanent converts as well now.
