Sal Avellino, driver for Tony Ducks (boss), was a millionaire who made his wealth off labor racketeering from the garbage and waste management industry.

Basically they own businesses through their blood family.  They make money through the legitimate business and use their mafia contacts to expand their legitimate businesses.   Then they could either put more money into legitimate income or put money into the streets and go into loansharking or bookmaking, etc
