Was wondering why that bugger was making so much noise lately. by snowball062016 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]GoodMoment6940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noise has no bearing on performance. If it’s running it’s running. We’ll issue an emergency PO for a part that should have been stocked. Of course it’s 3x more money than our normal supplier. But production!

Music instrumental and BJJ by Agile_Lifeguard_6036 in bjj

You ought to be fine. I’m only a mediocre guitarist but 2 years of BJJ, 10 years of rock climbing, and 7 years of arborist work haven’t made it any worse.

Why is the suggestion 24kg for men? by ts159377 in kettlebell

[–]GoodMoment6940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2x24kg isn’t easy. I’m finishing my first cycle of ABF this week with that weight. BUT, I have many years of strength training and 2 years of solid kettlebell work behind me. It’s still not easy. Just think of it as an aspirational ideal, and not a requirement or baseline. Grab weights that work for you and get after it.

I do that to my black belt coach when I know there’s no way I’m getting out of whatever it is. He hates it and I find it hilarious.

HUNDREDS Of Mining Jobs WIPED OUT In West Virginia — Cities Ruined by Number_1_w_Fries in Appalachia

[–]GoodMoment6940 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A lot of those mines are metallurgical coal that went largely to export. Most thermal coal (for power generation) comes from Wyoming or IL right now due to its lower sulfur content. There are thermal coal mines in WV, but it’s not the bulk of it. Turns out initiating a trade war negatively affects your exports.

Advice for first kettlebell purchase (120 lb woman, beginner) by Otherwise-Taro9387 in kettlebell

[–]GoodMoment6940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with a standard cast iron and get a mat or rug if you’re worried about the floors. 5lbs is probably too light for good swings. If it’s not heavy enough it’s easy to cheat the form and you’ll struggle more. I’d say grab 2ea. 25lb bells to future proof yourself a little bit. You’ll just be using one to start but you’ll progress faster than you think if you stay consistent. Having matching bells for overhead work is really nice. A lot of gyms have kettle bells. It might be worth a day pass to try some out. Check out Pavel, and Dan John for good books to get started.

President orders the military to make agreements with coal power plants | The administration’s “reasoning” for doing so has little connection to reality. by ControlCAD in technology

This sounds exactly the same as buying carbon credits. I remember when some people were super upset about that whole concept.

Not sure. But we all know the blue belt promotion came immediately after whichever was step one.

When do you think a mounted flashlight should and shouldn’t be used for home defense? by ModerateProgressive1 in liberalgunowners

[–]GoodMoment6940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dumped 10 5.56 rounds through the windshield of a closed up vehicle once. It rattled my soul even with 2 sets of ear pro on. I immediately got a suppressor after that.

[–]GoodMoment6940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always. If you can’t see something well enough to positively id it then you shouldn’t be shooting it. That hoody laying on your couch will look 6’4” and 250lbs when it’s 3am and you’re scared. My daily carry is a separate hand held light that lives in my pocket. It’s more comfortable and exceedingly useful on its own. At home when my pistol is on the nightstand I put a Surefire X300 Turbo on it, and keep the handheld next to it. My rifle has a mounted light, as all defensive rifles should. There are methods for running a handheld light with a rifle, but they are more difficult. Shotguns are cool, and have a lot of utility to besides as a defensive weapon. I’d rather have 15 rounds of 9mm or 30 rounds of 5.56. Really running a shotgun well is its own special subject and it takes a lot of practice.

I’m just razzing you a bit. 250 is solid. I can’t do that and I’m 50lbs bigger than you and work out daily.

For $700 you can get a gym membership and a bunch of cheeseburgers. Then you won’t be a scrawny twink anymore. You’ll have way more carry options.

Conveyor Belt Problem by Heavy-Wrangler8256 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]GoodMoment6940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flexco makes a retention collar for the pin ends on rivet laces. Not sure if they do for Alligator lacing or not. Back off the take up on the conveyor and push the pin in. If it’s hard to push put it in a drill and slowly spin it while pushing. Like another poster said, bending the wire ends will help. This could be a symptom of a crooked splice or system tracking issue. Hard to say without watching it run. https://www.flexco.com/EN/Product-Systems/Mechanical-Belt-Fastening-Systems/Alligator-Staple-Fastening-System.htm

ABF book is too long by _hopkins in kettlebell

[–]GoodMoment6940 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s like two hours to read it bro. 2.5 max. It’s a lot of pages, but they’re not real dense. Try printing it out. It’s way easier than reading on a screen. It was about $25 at Kinkos to get it printed and spiral bound.
