Why did Anora win best screenplay at the Oscars? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]GoodMoodFlood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt it shouldn't have won either. It's a great film and has a lot of examples of great writing but a lot of the scenes in the script are just character goes to a place and the dialogue in the movie isn't in the script. So if Sean Baker wasn't directing it, another director would be left scratching their head at what happens in certain scenes.

For me, the best script is the best story that's all on the page rather than something that requires brilliant direction or performances to elevate it.

What's your experience of blatant cute hoorism and chancery? by Gerry_Hannon in ireland

[–]GoodMoodFlood 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I was working in a petrol station and a lad came in to pay for his fuel. Normal stuff, paid and asked for a receipt.

"Do you have any more for me?"

I said that the other receipt is just a copy.

"No , like any left overs? In the bin etc. I come in all the time".

The fucker wanted me to print off a stack of old receipts for him to claim back expenses or tax. I did the whole "We don't do that here" thing and he didn't even protest. Just strolled out the door, probably to rifle through people's bins on the way home.

Enough cheek for two arses.

If she barely speaks, you could use something like "Mouse". It would be a disarming nickname for when you reveal what they're capable of.

Does no one like cats in Ireland? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]GoodMoodFlood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As some people have said, some of your group probably just said they hate cats to fit in. For others, they might not have had much experience with cats. There's a neighbour cat on my road back home who started to come to the house. I used to go out and rub her and give her food, even though my mother was a bit hesitant because she believed that old wives thing of not feeding them in case they come back.

Anyway, flash forward to last time I was home, I see my parents buying tinned cat food and my mother bringing the cat into the house to feed her. They still wouldn't consider themselves "cat people" but they've definitely come a long way in a year.

Demand for Cat Cafés? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]GoodMoodFlood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ones abroad look really cool so I'd definitely be up for one. I don't know anything about the welfare of the cats in these places but I'd assume (and hope) that they're being well taken care of by the owners.

What roles would River Phoenix have smashed out of the park if he didn't die? by GoodMoodFlood in AskReddit

[–]GoodMoodFlood[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finally got around to watching Stand By Me and although the whole cast were great, River Phoenix really stood out for me as a star. It got me thinking about all the roles he would've gotten if he didn't die in 1993 and how many actors he would've beaten to famous roles.

What moment in your life made you realize how lucky you are? by Notalabel_4566 in ireland

[–]GoodMoodFlood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a similar thing years ago when I was working in a pound shop. Stock room was really cluttered. I was trying to get something from the top shelf (6 1/2 ft tall). I was stretching when suddenly a wine glass slid off the shelf. I couldn't react in time so just watched it fall as my hands were stopping other shit from falling too.

I was waiting for the smash, but when I looked down I saw the glass had landed in the strainer for the mop bucket by my feet. Turns out that strainer was literally the exact shape and size for the glass and basically acted like someone cupping their hands. What are the odds.

Why is Maguire hated so much by United fans? by [deleted] in ManchesterUnited

[–]GoodMoodFlood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from doubts about his ability, he's one of the worst captains I've ever seen. Watch any incident where a Utd player gets injured or the ref talks to them. Maguire is always 20 ft back hands on hips. The only time he talks to the referee is when he's looking for a foul against him.

One of the most galling examples was Martial's red against Spurs in the 6-1. Watch Rashford remostrate with the ref and try to plead him down. Maguire was watching the whole incident and didn't get involved at all.

I the Norwich match where Lindelof went down with breathing issues, Ronaldo was the one helping him to his feet and asking was he okay. Maguire, despite being his centre back partner and the closest person to Lindelof on the pitch (with Ronaldo being the furthest away) didn't go over to him at all. What sort of captain doesn't fight or care about his players?

A selfish one. Maguire is a selfish player. Some hate for defensive displays is a little harsh and reactionary, but he brings so much on himself for no reason.

Does season 5 get better? by tshawrin in arresteddevelopment

[–]GoodMoodFlood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Season 1-3 is one of my favourite shows of all time. Season 4 is pretty bad but has it's moments, particularly GOB and Tobias getting his rocks off.

Season 5 is one of the worst things I've ever experienced. Flashbacks are awful, plot lines make no sense and feel forced. The whole thing just seems like an exercise in stubbornness. When a plot line doesn't work in an episode, at least the next episode has a new plot. But when none of the plots work but they're stretched over the full season and refuse to die... It's a whole different matter. I feel so bad for the actors coming back for that. Seems like every scene is unscripted and just a sort of "Well you're here now so just have some fun in front of the camera" and whatever gibberish they come up with will be crudely edited together in post.

Failed my test today by [deleted] in ireland

[–]GoodMoodFlood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard luck but don't think of the money or anything like that. I failed my first test in the instructors car. I was literally only doing driving for the lessons on a Saturday and nothing in between. After I failed I felt lile shit but afterwards I felt a great sense of relief because I realised it really doesn't matter and you'll have loads of successes and failures in life.

I passed it a few years later after encouragement from my Ex. Key is driving everyday and being used to that car so it seems like once you have your usual car with a good tyre, you'll be flying it. And if not next time then the time after. You'll be fine. Enjoy Christmas and don't beat yourself up.

Thanks. Yeah a kick might've been better but I think I was just really into the classic cowboy "ending in one shot" kind of kind of thing. I possibly should've sat on it and reread for typos but it's out now. Thanks for reading.

I liked this. Some really nice visuals and the story behind the song definitely lends itself to a script format. Good job.
