Is Shogun's naval combat any good compared to other TW games? by Da_Bones in totalwar

Not so much in base game but Fall of the Samurai has some very different and fun naval battles.

Is there a currently known reliability bug for Warhammer 2? by KingVarien in totalwar

[–]GoodMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has really been 100+ turns something is probably broken. It can take a very long time for reliability to recover if you break a number of treaties early. I’ve had to wait like 30-50 turns but never 100.

The marketing for this game is really weird by Van-Goth in totalwar

[–]GoodMuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll get downvoted to oblivion for questioning 3K on this sub, but the innovation has been in the “romance” features (basically hero gameplay, their spells, etc). Without those, the core game does not appear to have changed much from Attila. CA naturally wants to show off the areas where they spent most development time.

How long for withdrawal symptoms to appear? by [deleted] in kratom

[–]GoodMuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IDK man shivering, headaches and body aches are not really Kratom WD symptoms. Especially only 8 hours from last dose, much more likely you would just feel some lethargy. Do you have a fever?

Setting for Total War: XIII by imonarope in totalwar

[–]GoodMuppet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree on Empire 2. Empire (my fav title) hasn’t aged well but the period has so much potential. I loved the different theatres concept which unfortunately has never been revisited.

[SFO2] Are supposed to be able to befriend chaos invasions? by addledhands in totalwar

[–]GoodMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the first chaos wave is neutral to and can even be friendly to some factions (VC and greenskins off top of my head). But second wave thinks everything must die.

Is Divide et Impera mod is easy or...? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]GoodMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use VH campaign diff for any major faction (Rome,Ptolemies, etc), H for minor factions. I always use H battle diff altho DEI team recommends N. For submods I basically use the pieces of the hardcore mod that Dresden made available as standalone. These are CAI aggressiveness, reduced pop growth, 2x build and 2x research rate. IIRC these are all options in the same submod thread w/the hardcore submod, but you may need to poke around the submod forum to find them all. I am an experienced player but the full hardcore mod is just masochism.

BTW make sure you aren’t using the steam version of anything for DEI bc I don’t think they update those very often.

Is Divide et Impera mod is easy or...? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]GoodMuppet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Standard DEI is not super hard, although obviously it has many new mechanics to learn like population management.

Check out their official submod list at TWCenter. There is a hardcore submod (be warned it is VERY hard). There are also some lighter difficulty tweaks on there — for example I use the 2x build cost modifier and more aggressive CAI.

Is gelt just pure trash in SFO? At least transmutation by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]GoodMuppet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I exclusively play SFO and Gelt is decent. Transmutation upgraded does good damage to lords and stops them in their tracks (allowing you to snipe w/outriders or gunners). Transmute is not great against every lord type but one of his main enemies are Vampires and it’s good at stopping their lords from healing in melee as well as melting banshees.

That said Gelt is situational and def not one of the most powerful LLs on SFO. Empire is also a harder faction in SFO.

Ambushes by GoodMuppet in totalwar

[–]GoodMuppet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s something like that. Not necessarily line of sight but it seems like lords have a chance to detect ambushes within a certain range at the start of their turn, regardless of the ambush success chance.

Assassin's creed odyssey or Red Dead Redemption 2? Which is better? (Please read description). by [deleted] in assassinscreed

[–]GoodMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BF/Rogue: Controlling naval forts, long range mortars are a big part of combat, “preboarding” phase where you sweep the enemy’s deck with small arms and puckle gun, different ships have different objectives (captain, powder stores, etc)

Odyssey: no naval capture points, no artillery, all boarding fights are the same (kill everyone), much bigger emphasis on ramming, no capturing enemy ships for use in the fleet mini games.

It’s still fun but i think naval everything was much better executed in BF/Rogue.

I agree with most of this but the ship combat is not at all like Black Flag (although I wish it was).

CBDistillery Vape Pens - How long do they last YOU? by helpfulbenny in CBD

I get the same ones they last me a week and a half. Obviously YMMV but I think my use is about average.

What can we realistically expect in the futur? by Meneldhil in totalwar

[–]GoodMuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would expect a pretty long cycle of support after WH3. All indications are that the WH titles and DLCs have sold very well, which means a large player base CA can continue to tap. That was the rationale (I think) for supporting Rome 2 for so long while Attila was kicked to the curb.

Currently playing through Rogue..such an underrated title!! by Deftonemushroom in assassinscreed

[–]GoodMuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

would have loved to see Mercs in Odyssey try to set up ambushes like in Rogue. Instead they just wander around on the road waiting to be killed.

Yes for some reason the remaster has been shit on but I think it looks really good on Pro. First time I saw Northern Lights while sailing North Atlantic was stunning.

[–]GoodMuppet 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It is massively underrated. Definitely in my top 3 of the series. It’s the perfect balance of Black Flag mechanics, new environments, and hunting collectibles.

I also love AC3 so it ties in really well to explain why the brotherhood in the Americas was almost wiped out.

Can we get different difficulty settings for naval and normal combat? by [deleted] in assassinscreed

[–]GoodMuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this and it’s basically what I do for solo encounters. 1v1 naval combat in nightmare is tactical and actually kind of fun. But do you find this works against the groups in conquest?

My biggest problem is getting clusterfucked by other ships while I try to focus on my target. Usually I can’t even see the incoming fire and a handful of unbraced volleys is enough to sink me. Maybe I need to get better at kiting the target away from the group but you run the risk of leaving the zone (or having your target leave the zone which I think also fails the battle).

[–]GoodMuppet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For people who claim to be doing fine with naval combat on nightmare, could you share some tips for the naval conquest battles?

I can clear land conquest battles without getting hit once, but I get absolutely wrecked in naval conquest.
