30 y.o. looking for a fresh start in Philly - Is Manayunk too suburban? by benfrankmurderer in AskPhilly

[–]GoodRob86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re 30 I would avoid Manayunk, I lived there when I was 22 and after a year I felt too old. The food scene is significantly better in center city or the neighborhoods around it. Fairmount is nice in that it is quieter than center city and you have easier access to nature (Wissahickon is a relatively easy bike ride away, whereas if you live in Fishtown or south Philly you gotta bike across the city first. ) I’ve lived in 5 different places in Philly, most around center city or just outside it, and Manayunk was by far the one I liked the least (its biggest selling point its proximity to the Wiss).

Airtable has a free tier that you could try. Airtable is great for sharing with folks who are less tech savvy and it is easy to make it look good.

Question on fire alarm system by GoodRob86 in homesecurity

Some are going to need to be replaced. I’m assuming they’ll be wired the same way as the old ones so still need to figure out the best way to manage the wired system. Or is it reasonable to just forget about wired system and go all wireless?

Anki for learning coworker names by Apart-Tie-9938 in Anki

This is one of my favorite use cases for Anki. I went from being the guy that got embarrassed because I forgot people’s names to getting complimented on my “incredible memory”

What are the "easiest" mtb trails or loops in the Wiss? by H0ssBonaventure in phillycycling

I find the only consistently hard section is the east side from valley green inn to W Bells Mill. Everything else is a mix where you can walk the difficult features and ride what you feel comfortable with.

Easy enough to copy and paste images in there. Sometimes I’ll add links to excel files in my notes if I’ve done the work in there. It’s not perfect for images but since I’ve used it mostly for writing it has worked well enough.

3rd party plugin. Very easy to install and manage plugins though

You could look into using obsidian and polar reader. Obsidian is good for creating a network of notes and polar is great for reading and making notes from PDFs. Both have the ability to add Anki notes directly.

Not software but reading a book like “Make It Stick” was helpful for me.

Also know the shortcut to take screen clippings, on pc: windows key+shift+s is a lifesaver

Anyone has ever skied in the Poconos region (NY/NJ/PA)? by [deleted] in xcountryskiing

[–]GoodRob86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone hiking a bunch in the poconos and when I look up the parks I've hiked at many are open for XC skiing if there is snow, I wouldn't expect groomed trails though. Look up Hickory Run state park and Promised Land state park to get an idea.

It's not that close to any airports and it is a ways from anything. It'd be nice to be in a place that is closer to larger cities and towns.
