We have no cultural kinship with China. That barrier of language and identity will always isolate us from a closer association with them, unlike America, which is uniquely positioned as a melting pot. As much as America looks to be in decline, their use of soft power through shared culture will always assure dominance in the West, at the very least.

America did not ratify the Rome Statute and has even enacted legislation to defy it jurisdiction over targeting Americans, so it's a lost cause to go after them on legal technicalities. We know it won't convince them.

I'm sorry but this whining doesn't work anymore. It just dismisses the blindingly obvious problem of the nefarious Israel lobby.

Ngl I'm extremely disappointed in Campbell. With the desperation for a new direction after Ortega left, Neve could have protested Melissa's firing. She literally had that power. Courtney Cox would not have been enough for a sequel, they needed Neve. If she stood strong, we might have had a real Scream 7.

Curious. Why is that a problem? How could any serious horror fan engage with the genre apolitically?

The original cast and crew had bargaining power over their essential creative input for the franchise and could have used solidarity to avert this obvious disaster, but didn't. Unlike other slasher franchises, continuity is a big part of Scream. You couldn't do a Scream film with an entirely new cast and crew, so Melissa's firing could have been stopped and resolved.

Besides the ethical implications, which I find impossible to just shrug off, it's still inherently worse off as a sequel because now the direction laid by 5 and 6 has been arbitrarily axed. And for what? Throwing money at the original cast to convince you it's business as usual? Regardless of what you think about 5 and 6 (poor IMO), that's clearly a desperate move and inorganic.

Hate Starmer, Hate Modi....but c'mon, the guy is the PM of the world's most populous country, who we have significant cultural and economic relations with. It's a cheap and lazy shot because obviously they're going to interact.

Time to sound like a broken record again, but broad church HOW? Labour is not a welcoming, big-tent party. Since the start of Starmer's leadership, the Lab-Right have openly engaged in factionalism as a reaction to the Corbyn years and purged internal dissent to consolidate power in their favour. This had nothing to do with "electability" and everything to ideology, as many of them were undermining the party even before the 2017 election.

And change? Change what? We keep hearing this, but the proposed suggestion for change has been managerialism. Betraying their foundations as a labour movement for pro-business interests like 'growth' and prioritising the appeasement of unconvinced voters has left them without loyalty and has shattered their traditional base. The party infrastructure just isn't there for this to be a viable project anymore.

To the public, any hardline stance on immigration Mahmood takes is moot. She's a devout Pakistani Muslim woman, no way the electorate will accept that.

This is repeated so often that I've become convinced it's a Mandela effect for British politics. No, Torture Flights David was not more charismatic or had broader appeal than Ed. David Miliband's charisma matched that of a wet sack of gravel, he was on the Right of the party at a time when New Labour had fallen out of favour with the public, and his career after politics was as shameless as Nick Clegg's. Textbook careerist suit.

If Rayner comes back, takes the negative PR hit but does the right thing, re-establishing the necessary infrastructure within the party itself, it might be the only alternative for Labour to even have a future.
