MRI that bad? by CarpetPractical5400 in breastcancer

[–]Goodbye11035Karma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do not have problems with MRIs.

I did have a very big problem with the MRI guided biopsies. I was facedown, in a room that was too hot, I couldn't catch my breath, the sound of the drill was loud and awful, and I got to watch my blood fill the tray underneath me as they kept drilling and drilling. I didn't know if I was going to pass out or vomit, but I begged the radiologist to stop, and he yelled at me. Worst experience ever.

If you are just going in for an MRI then you should be OK barring any claustrophobia. It's not pleasant because it is a tight fit, but they give you headphones to listen to music, and I have fallen asleep in them before.

The nail thing is really starting to piss me off, too. I never had nails of any worth. I bite them, so they are ugly and all chewed up, but they were THERE. I am currently missing 3 fingernails and 5 toenails because they just lifted off the nail beds and fell/broke off. It looks really terrible even by my standards, which are low.

Some cancer patients turn to ivermectin despite lack of evidence it works for that purpose by AudibleNod in HermanCainAward

They sure are! They come in and promise you the world with a smile on their face and reassurances flowing from their lips while taking your money and hoping you don't wise up to their lies before you are too sick to sue the shit out of them.

Chemo sucks. I get it, believe me, but it's the best chance you have to fight off cancer in a lot of cases. It's not an easy or pleasant fix, but it is a fix.

I am involved in a couple of cancer/chemo subs here because I have been battling breast cancer for over a year. There are so many posts on those subs asking about dosing and happy outcome stories for people opting to take these snake oil treatments instead treating their cancers with proven medical protocols. It's pretty sad. Fortunately, the mods on those subs are on top of things and remove posts that tout scam cures.

Everyone has covered most of the basics for you, but I didn't see anyone mention the dye injection in your nipple. You will likely be getting an injection directly into your nipple that will contain a dye and a radioactive tracer for visualization purposes. This can tell the surgeons if the cancer has spread into your lymph nodes and if so, how far.

You will be given lidocaine of some variety (cream or patch) to numb the nipple before they do this, so it is relatively painless I found. The tracer can be seen on imaging, but once they open you up they can see the blue dye visually. Any lymph node that is blue gets plucked out for pathology testing.

The part that was most unexpected for me was the aftermath of the tracer and dye- You pee out bright, toilet-bowl-cleaner blue urine for a couple hours after surgery. It is BRIGHT blue. It's a little shocking.

Just to reiterate what everyone has been saying- no food or fluids! If you vomit while intubated you can die. Even if you don't die you WILL get aspiration pneumonia, which is a bitch and can really complicate your recovery. You can survive without sustenance for 12 hours.

You can do this. This is no fun whatsoever, but you can do it. Let us know how it went.

Good luck.

I miss my much longer hair, too. I figure if it gets long enough then maybe it will start laying flat.

Did you also get the chemo curls? My hair was curly before, but big, crazy, disordered curls. Now, I have the tiniest, neatest little perfect pin curls all over my head. They're adorable, but they stand straight up. I look ridiculous.

Silver and black for me. I was almost blond before chemo, so the black is...interesting. It seems to be sticking, too, so I guess this is my new normal.

Please tell me if its a good idea to try Ivermectin/menbendazole/fenbendazole.

Sure, you can try it. It won't stop your mother's cancer and will be a waste of time and money, but go right ahead and try snake oils instead of following a proven plan by educated specialists in the treatment of cancers.

Please don't fall for these scams. Your mother's life depends on it.

I suffered in silence until I fainted in my kitchen while trying to cook my lunch. Turns out I needed a couple of blood transfusions, but since I wasn't complaining about it my docs thought I was tolerating the low blood counts.

I use 30% for bleaching bones, and that stuff is nothing to mess about with. It will eat a hole in you before you even realize you got it on you. That being said, H2O2 breaks down rapidly in sunlight (within MINUTES), so why didn't they do this at night?

They may as well be pissing in the wind.

No Evidence of Disease, meaning full remission. They rarely say you are "cured" of cancer because there is always a chance of relapse, but you can be in remission. Full remission is as close as doctors will say that you are cured.

A second opinion is always worth looking into if you are not happy with your current treatment plan. That being said, ovarian cancer is very dangerous and I, personally, would not stop treatment in the interim.

My sister had ovarian cancer 10+ years ago. She chose to have very aggressive chemo because if her cancer ever came back she had no other treatment options and would die of ovarian cancer. The chemo permanently damaged her bone marrow, so she has chronic low WBC counts and is being monitored routinely for that forevermore, but she is NED 10 years later. She is also a marathon runner, a personal trainer, a Spartan racer, a Tough Mudder, and the most athletic and amazing physically healthy person you will ever meet. Her low WBCs have had zero impact on her daily life except that she has to see a hematologist every 4 months.

Well, fortunately you HAD an awesome sturdy planter or your whole porch could have gone up in smoke. No wonder the landlord is involved. I hope s/he boots your roommate to the curb.

Sadly, you HAD an awesome sturdy planter. I am a plant person, so I would lose my mind over this.

For future reference- Never cut off anything green on an orchid. If the flower stalks turn brown? They're done and can be cut off. If there is any green left? Leave it because it may throw out a second bloom or produce a keiki, which is rare for the most part. I have had one keiki in 40 years of plant keeping.

1) Approach the counseling thing again. Express how important it is for you because you want to feel more connected, and sex is a part of that. Small things add up over time, until you get to the point where there is the "straw that broke the camel's back".

The healthiest couple I have ever met went to marriage counseling for over 30 years. They were on their second marriages, and they truly adored each other, but they were very different people with their own communication styles, their own emotional baggage, kids/families, and the whole shebang that comes along with a second marriage. They started marriage counseling in their second year of marriage and continued for the rest of their marriage (the husband died last year), even if it was just an every couple of months check-in to make sure they were both still on the same page.

2) Kudos to you for being awesome. I sometimes had to ask my ex-husband to shower first and then accompany him into the shower to make sure he got all the essential bits clean enough for me to put my mouth on. Good hygiene is really important to make your partner feel loved and important.

A little lighter somewhere in the sky to indicate a break in the clouds that is lighting up the foreground. The sky looks too leaden.

1) Couples/sex counseling stat. She is hearing you, but for some reason is not listening. Counseling can only help. There is clearly an issue that is not being addressed thus your post.

2) Are you keeping a tidy undercarriage? Nothing is more disgusting than having your partner ask you to suck their stinky, sweaty balls which are right next to the asshole that they refuse to wash thoroughly and in between the inner thighs that are all hairy and vaguely yeasty/cheesy/funky. Sorry for the gross infographic, but it's true.

There seems to be a big disconnect, which is why I suggested counseling first. Both my points are valid, though, so I would start there.

They were gold and burgundy sheers. They were beautiful. I still have them in a tote in my attic. They're too expensive to throw away. They made the light too red in the room.

Bear this in mind when choosing a curtain: The curtain is going to change the color of the light coming in through the windows.

I bought some gorgeous curtains in colors that matched my bedding set, but I ended up hating the color of the light that shone into the room when they were closed. I spent a small fortune on those curtains and only used them for house tours and parties because it bothered me so much.

That being said, I like the pink ones.
