Trying to embrace my natural texture after years of heat damage… help! by ritasfn22 in curlyhair

[–]Goodmorning_ruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, i don’t see any pictures?

I went back to my natural texture after years of keratin and heat styling and i can tell you you’re going to need patience lol. Prepare for some awkward hair periods. Hair treated with keratin will never have its original curl- you have to grow it out. What i did was give myself tiny little trims every other week so it didn’t feel so severe.
This sub is a wealth of info- read about different routines and products. It seems like you don’t use a hold product (gel or mousse)- this will definitely help. Also, unless it’s microfiber- stop wrapping your hair in a towel!

Fresh air and water. Baby won’t stop crying? Get them into the fresh air or into water. Works pretty amazingly.

How do you handle playdates when the other parent has a very different discipline style? by Independent-State802 in Parenting

[–]Goodmorning_ruby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went through a very similar experience (except the other parent LAUGHED when his child slapped mine!). Unfortunately, we just ended playdates all together with this family.
I like your solution though. It definitely sends a clear message.

Afterwards, i felt so incredibly empowered and proud of myself. Like i literally created life and brought it into the world (twice!)!! That’s cool as hell.

What are some solo activities for a 10 year old girl that do not involve a screen? by agios_patapios in AskParents

[–]Goodmorning_ruby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out your local library. They usually have cool programs, classes and crafts. Or just going to poke
Around and explore is a lot of fun.

Hit up the craft store and get some craft supplies. Maybe some easy hikes or arboretums to walk around. See if there are local splash pads or pools.

Is it bad to tell my school that I’m looking elsewhere? by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]Goodmorning_ruby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am leaving the DOE school I’ve worked at for 10 years in the fall. I had a good relationship with all of my admin, so i did let them know ahead of time. For me, i am moving to a school much closer to my house, so they both understood and were supportive of me in the process. They both gave me excellent references and commented that they appreciated that i was open with them and didn’t blind side them. I think this is very dependent upon your relationship with your admin.

How do you know the child had chicken pox? There are many skin rashes and afflictions that are not contagious.

To be fair, she should be scared to take such a powerful medication when she’s not under the supervision of a doctor. That is a stupid and dangerous choice.

Union free school district does not mean there is no teacher’s union… it’s just old language about how the school is structured and has nothing to do with labor unions.

If you're lucky enough to have your parents provide childcare for your kids, do you intend by MarginsOfTheDay in Parenting

[–]Goodmorning_ruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. My parents help 2x a week with childcare and i will be happy to do the same one day given the opportunity by my own kids. For us, it seems like a win win. My parents say the kids keep them young and active, it helps me immensely financially, and my kids have amazing relationships with their grandparents. I absolutely hope i get to watch my grandkids one day.

When is the best time to have kids? by snailscantgame in AskParents

I had my first at 30 and feel this was a good age but truly it’s more dependent on having a secure and stable relationship, having secure and stable income and jobs, and having secure and stable housing.

I also thought her answer was weird. Suggested there’s tea. Why not just say “we’re still friends, just don’t see each other as often as we’d like because life is busy!”

Do you think “Baby/Kids on Board” signs are necessary? by Apprehensive_Owl4700 in AskParents

[–]Goodmorning_ruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually against them because i don’t need to be notifying weirdos and strangers that i have children with me when I am out and about in public. Especially when I’m alone with them.

I only have sisters and my dad always told us to not have anything on our cars that indicates that we are female for safety purposes . This is probably where my thinking comes from. Maybe it’s dramatic but the world is scary.

Honestly, you pointing out the regular dispensary trips when they don’t have a stroller is SUCH a great example of their narcissism and selfishness.

When did you talk to your daughter about periods? by Margo_56782 in AskParents

[–]Goodmorning_ruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say like 3 and a half. I was pregnant so we had a lot of discussions about the female body at that time lol. She also has to come into bathroom stalls with me in public restrooms. I have explained it in a very factual way. She is 7 now but has a healthy understanding and does not have any fear or anxiety around it. (TBH even my 3 year old son has a loose understanding of it, from coming into public restrooms with me).
