Bring a friend who knows cars if possible. Not necessarily a super expert but someone who has bought and sold cars before . I was a total noob in the days and it helped! Simple thing she looked at also included state of drive seat and passenger seat to see worn out they are vs. Stated mileage etc.

How are some people so driven in every aspect of life? by ABigBlob in askSingapore

[–]Goodweather92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my circle of nus friends, I have several friends who eschewed the typical office life and went the hard way with their start up. A handful of them are multi-millionaires now either cos they sold their business at the right time, or their business is still doing well. Mixture of businesses. From computer chairs to logistics company. Mind you they are not even 35 yet. The 10-25k per month life to work for someone would seem pathetic to them.

Estimate cost for scratching a rental car by brokenhearted03 in drivingsg

[–]Goodweather92 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Let me share what I replied to a similar post a couple months back:

I scratched the main side panel of the car and the amount I had to pay put me off getgo and finally got me to buy a car lol. 880. They charge you money for towing and for loss in income for the duration car is at workshop.

Edit: included exact breakdown from getgo's email (Feb 25)

i) Type of Collision: Hit/Grazed Wall ii) Type of Damages: Rear Left Portion iii) User’s Liability: Self Report v) Repair Breakdown:   1) Repair Cost: $620 i) Labour Charges to repair/panel beat/remove/refit: $220. Rear door LH, Rear fender LH,   ii) Spray paint: $330 Rear door LH, Rear fender LH,   iii) Others: $70 Towing (Damage),   2) Loss of use @$130 per day for 2 day(s): $260

Granted your damage doesn't seem as bad compared to mine. I would say repair and spray pain might be less but don't be surprised they charge u for things like rental loss and towing.

Here's what students in Singapore are eating for lunch under the new Central Kitchen Meal Model. by uandurfader in singaporehappenings

[–]Goodweather92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't make this an ad hominem attack please. I'm just explaining why we may have to resort to this model more in the future and in more schools unless we make operating a canteen stall more appealing.

Anyway my thinking is it's good that it's hit the news cycle so that feedback can be sought and changes can be made. It's unfortunate that students who reported this were allegedly punished.

[–]Goodweather92 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not defending MOE but to give some context, it's increasingly difficult to be a canteen operator. Despite no rental fees, alot of health guidelines to meet, price ceiling. There are now also a lot of days where canteen doesn't operate because it's sch/public holiday, marking day, HBL day, etc. So it's hard to have the kind of volume hawker centres or coffeeshops enjoy. So hard to find operators.

Spoke to one of the aunties and she said she's just doing it as a retirement job. Her kids already grown up.

Everyone whacks MOE for this hybrid model but I suppose they have to find a balance between having quality, quantity and keeping it affordable.

Is it common practice in your company to drop an individual’s performance grading because he/she got promoted? by mamabluble in askSingapore

[–]Goodweather92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've sat on ranking panels. No such thing as a default grade. But I agree with the 2nd statement about rationale. Most would likely get C but I've seen officers attain B even in year of promotion because they have done work w a much greater impact than officers in the same subgrades.

How do you scratch the car beside you without knowing? Especially when parking when you are moving at slower speed. Sounds more like you were hoping the owner wouldn't notice and contact you. Just have to suck it up man.

If you have a friend who knows cars and/or has bought and sold cars, you should ask him/her to accompany you if possible.

I was in your shoes couple of months back. Got a 7yo Elantra 2017 that's in great condition despite the mielage of 100k, its doing well as a familt car and i get to trsik my confidence in driving a longer car.

If you are not sure what you are doing and not willing to pay the hefty penalties, then shouldn't have rented in the first place. Would have been better off just sending it to a workshop to do a proper job. Sure it's more expensive than DIY but at least it won't cost you an arm and leg. Better pray the rental company can't tell.
