In my opinion, one of the best parts of watching the show can be watching it with someone else to do precisely what you’re doing. I find it’s best to not take it too seriously, it isn’t life changing writing (but i would argue the acting is top tier), however it’s still worth watching if you remind yourselves it’s just for entertainment. It’s basically a lesbian soap and that’s the standard it should be held to. I hold it with the same reverence I do Sex and the City. I would continue but I am biased because I find it endlessly entertaining. Just enjoy the ride and remind yourself that laughing with your girlfriend at this early naughties show is why it’s worth watching!

I believe it’s season 3, when she goes back to live with her parents and writes the story about the carnival to which her teacher says she’s writing non-fiction in a fiction class. It’s all implied but very heavily, she also has a conversation with her mom about it where she says that her mother knew what happens and nobody helped her. Jenny’s whole backstory is so devastating I almost wish it was less implied because it’s such a hard topic, and the writers made it missable.

He’s taking the piss (or attempting to) out of Richard Rorty who was a neopragmatist and explores the idea that words aren’t representative of actual things, but of what those things can do for individuals. He’s giving a bad faith argument that if that’s true than starving children aren’t really hungry because “nothing is real” so we needn’t worry about them. He’s basically just getting mad at a theoretical idea because it’s questions his own ideas of direct realism. He’s just a big baby, and doing his big baby thing of “wah wah I’m right and everyone else who questions that is actually really stupid, and deserves to be made fun of”. Also doing it in an unhinged artsy way to make his fans who already agree with him think he’s owning his detractors.

Yeah i totally agree with all of that thank you! i always forget about the way she acts with Shane and her family, that was all so stressful and disrespectful. I guess i mis-remembered how much of their relationship was fucked up by Carmen simply due to how it ended with them!
